Trump justified the steel and aluminium tariffs as being an issue of national security. Using that justification meant he was able to apply them without congress and it would be nearly if not completely impossible to challange them with the WTO or any other body.
But yesterday in a tweet, he claimed he applied the tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminium because of our dairy industry supply management.
That would make the steel and aluminium tariffs illegal, no?

I get that, but when you are living in a piece in a bigger world it’ll be hard for Trump to explain why so many people will be unemployed in just a few months. Economic isolationism will only get you so far.

The US economy is booming, unemployment hasn’t been this low in nearly 20 years and Trump’s approval ratings continue to climb (despite all the left-wing predictions of imminent economic doom). Could be that he knows something you don’t.
Anyone who seriously thinks that Canada can come out on top in a trade war with the United States is seriously deluded, I think.
We need to negotiate for the best deal we can get, just like Trump is doing.

Had a conversation late this morning with someone this morning.
She said if Justin wants to really punch Trump in the face, he’d put tariffs on Canadian radio-pharmaceuticals, ie radioactive isotopes used in medical diagnostics and treatments.
Canada is apparently the USA’s largest supplier of radio-pharmaceuticals by a wide margin.
