Donald Trump isn’t the only one who wants to build a wall

Jennifer Keesmaat’s vision for Toronto, not exactly as pictured.

There are 67 days until Election Day, and Jennifer Keesmaat still has this up.  She slept on it, apparently, and she still wants to separate from Ontario, Canada.

It’s crazy, sure, but it at least explains her desire for a TST (Toronto Sales Tax): she’ll need to tax the living Hell out of everyone living in her city-state to pay for basic services.

Oh, and you want jobs in Toronto? There’ll be plenty of opportunities for bricklayers to build Keesmaat’s wall along Steeles Avenue!

A few years ago (circa 2015) I went to a presentation in yyc by a rep from the world bank.

Among other topics he talked about the rise of the city states. He noted (accurately IMO) the more and more people are identifying- attaching to – the city closest to them rather than their state or province and even country.

No doubt that is the vibe I get in Toronto and Van and other cities.

The speaker said that adapting governance to this phenomenon will be a major challenge in the years to come.

    Ridicule it at your peril.

Surely your position isn’t that any non-deleted tweet constitutes an individual’s current opinion on a matter. I believe that Keesmaat has been clear since that tweet was issued that she is not advocating for the secession of Toronto from Ontario – she has stated on the record that the tweet was not a policy statement and that she has no intention of pursing it. And further, even if pursued, there’s not a living soul who thinks such a policy would manifest itself in the form of a wall along the border of the city.

There’s plenty of legitimate criticisms to make of all the individuals running for mayor, but pretending that secession is Keesmaat’s policy is disingenuous at best and dishonest at worst. Coming from a longtime reader and someone who enjoys this website very much, I think you’d be better served to find a different line of attack.

Hey Warren I sent you a tweet earlier today. We’re trying to get a violent anti-Semite removed from progressive bloggers. Please visit montrealsimonexposed.wordpress.com for more details. Thought you could help get the word out. Much appreciated.

If she alters her plan to build a wall around just the old pre-amalgamation City of Toronto, I’ll chip in an 18 wheeler full of whatever material she wants to use to build it.

One condition though – she has to agree to keep Adam Vaughan INSIDE the walls of Keesmaatistan.

Her idea is completely unworkable but has a gut-level appeal to people who are tired of Toronto getting screwed over by Queen’s Park. If Toronto were a separate Province there’s a he’ll of a lot of taxation $ that would stay in the cIty itself and not be spent on health care & education in Woodstock or Timmins or Chatham or Kenora. Now then, its great that the economy of Toronto helps fund services in the far flung places oif our great province but the city needs far more autonomy than Queen’s Park ever allows.

Not alot of auto parts plants or manufacturing or mining or forestry happening in the old City of Toronto. The property taxes and income taxes would be horrendous and the big banks would move to Vaughn or Vancouver.

ottawa gatineau should seperate from Canada- oops will everyone still pay taxes to feds and NCC

    • Ian says:

If Ottawa-Gatineau were ever to separate from Canada, the NCC would be the very first thing to go. It is like having a local government that doesn’t give a damn about the people who live there.
