We get letters: that are an good speeech!

Since Pynchon’s Crying of Lot 49 is my favourite novel, I kind of know what “entropy” means. So I suggested the Prime Minister kind of didn’t.

That elicited this response from one of his critics.

I told him I agreed all future prime ministerial “speaches” needed to be run by “a editor.”

Justin Trudeau will be in power for 100 years, etc.

I don’t think this is incorrect use of the word. Entropy is disorder. In chemistry, entropy drives mixing, like in solutions. Diversity is the dissolution of homogeneous ethnic populations into one another. So diversity being a consequence of entropy is an appropriate assertion, to my mind.

I’m not sure that’s what JT means by diversity. Instead of ethnic populations dissolving into one another (like cream and sugar dissolving into a cup of hot coffee) he probably means diverse populations living side by side, keeping their unique and distinct characteristics. Of course, this is all guesswork – he keeps repeating “diversity is our strength” over and over but to the best of my knowledge, he has never explained just what he means by that.
