“Knee-jerk outrage bots” is my new favorite phrase. I look in the mirror and see it occasionally, and I need to be better.

I never joined Twitter (thank gawd). But its not just Twitter that will ruin us. Facebook has turned into ‘rantbook’ for uninformed, basement dwelling idiots with too much time on their hands. So, I deleted my account.

  3. Montrealaise says:

I would suggest that politicians need to disengage from twitter, as well.

If there ever was a prime example of how low ethically low the media has sunk, this is it.

Absolutely the best take on the issue.
Canadian media should not be absolved either. Take a look at the archives to see how quick many of them rushed to pile on to garner their Clickbait hits.
As for the Glitteratti & Limolibs who piled on, that was to be expected of those lowlifes.

I couldn’t agree more. The quick jump to a conclusion is the worst aspect of doing political or social commentary or journalism over all social media, but twitter may be the worst of them. Facebook is pretty bad too.

I despise Trump, but they way that whole Covington thing went down shows how things like twitter and social media can backfire on you, no matter how good or noble your overall cause and intentions might be. Trump opponents jumped all over a brief video clip and tweeted out all sorts of conclusive statements before doing anything in the way of reasonable inquiry.

And the thing is, if you overshoot and miss, your credibility takes a huge hit, and you give ammo to your opponents.
