“The #POTUS who declared socialism a great evil declared – in the very same speech – his great affection for the leaders of Socialist North Korea and Communist China.”

That’s because those leaders are actually totalitarian, which he likes. Socialism is where the economy is controlled democratically, which he hates.

    • Steve T says:

While I agree that NK is more totalitarian than socialist, I would say that China is probably in the socialist realm.

Those who support socialism and communism like to fantasize about the utopian versions of those ideologies. However, the reality is very different.

The USSR, China, and Cuba are the ultimate implementations of socialism, where everyone is “equalized” (to be equally poor), and the wise government ensures all citizens are appropriately controlled and managed to maintain the alleged “equality”.

As for European countries with left-leaning governments, you can pretty much graph their prosperity with the amount of capitalism and/or economic strength that balances the socialism. So you have the likes of Greece, which is a trainwreck. But you have Denmark, Sweden, etc., who have vibrant capitalism in the midst of their scattered socialist policies (eg: healthcare).

    • doconnor,

I make it a point never to argue with good old-fashioned common sense.

  2. Jack says:

Nancy Pelosi’s sarcastic clapping at Trump was one the greatest things I’ve seen on TV.

Trump, his family and his speech were so irrelevant during that whole show, it’s really an indication of the low point this presidency has now reached. Nothing that is said by Trump bears any value anymore and his family/supporters are nothing more than a spectacle of unworthy actors playing government.

Also – Stacy Abrams needs to run for POTUS.

  3. Eric Weiss says:

I loved it when he mentioned there were more women in congress than ever, there was a cheer and he thought the cheer was for him.

I guess it is because of him there are more women. They were so fed up and discussed by this tiny handed, sexist, vulgarian they were inspired to get into public life to stop his bull shaite.

    • Eric Weiss says:

      *disgusted by

      Stupid tiny phone keys.

    • Jack says:

Yeah – the irony when he pointed out the number of elected women in Congress was something else.

Honestly surprised he didn’t try being funny/cheeky and acknowledging he played some part in that.

Also awkward that a Republican President used his SOTU speech to shed positive light on something that his own party is really struggling with. Its almost a tacit recognition of an accute problem with the GOP.

  4. Like I said over at my place, the deal to be had is with Nancy or there’s no deal. Could it possibly have finally sunk in?
