#LavScam shocker: she has tapes

Boom.

Materials submitted to the Commons Justice Committee this week indicate Jody Wilson-Raybould recorded at least one of the contentious conversations at the heart of the SNC-Lavalin affair, multiple sources tell CBC News.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said Wilson-Raybould’s exit from cabinet was a result of a “breakdown of trust” between Wilson-Raybould and the Prime Minister’s Office. The existence of a recording suggests that trust may have broken down well before she left cabinet on Feb. 12.

The audio recording, or a transcript of it, is expected to be part of a new submission to the committee from Wilson-Raybould to be released later today. That submission also includes a written statement, emails and text messages.

    Total SONIC BOOM! Love it!
    Thanks for your great coverage!

  2. Nick says:

    Whoa! The plot thickens!

  3. Sean says:

The truth will come out eventually

  4. MitchB says:

I bet her tapes are not missing 18 and a half minutes!

  5. I don’t know the specifics of the provincial legislation governing recording but that may, or may not, have been a risky move on her part.

    Anyone?

Worst case of self-mutilation I’ve ever seen (JT Jr). Without Butts providing his script he’s totally lost

  7. Max says:

Firstly, lets assume that JWR, in her capacity as 1) Minister of Justice, 2) Attorney general of Canada, 3) Crown Prosecutor in British Columbia, 4) a real, live Lawyer who knows something about the legalities around such recordings (apologies to Katie T with those pesky “legalities” in such matters). Now is not the time for arm-chair legal posers wading in with furrowed brow. Get over it or yourselves. (NB. Not sure if JWR was ever a drama teacher or snowboard instructor)

  8. Gord Tulk says:

Maybe need to rename this to Lavagate.

That she felt the need to record the meeting says so much.

I’m a Calgary Liberal troll and I’m into beating up women.

Maybe Wernick should have been wearing a wire. Good thing he has just invented the legal concept of “Civil Servant/Client Privilege” in the VAdm Norman trial. I’m sure he has nothing to worry about.

  11. Nick says:

Just read that the Liberal caucus is planning a motion to expel JWR and JP next week. A number of Liberal MPs are not in agreement with it. Appears the LPC is fracturing.

    • Sam Davies says:

Who would want to work with someone who is secretly recording conversations? What else, and who else has she been recording? While it certainly seems Wernick stepped out of bounds, it seems very devious to do something like this without consent.

      • Vancouverois says:

You have a point – but it’s also obvious that JWR had very good reasons to feel it was necessary. And subsequent events have completely borne that out.

This clearly wasn’t the first time that she’d been subjected to outrageous political pressure to interfere. I can’t honestly blame her for wanting to have evidence to support her side, when she could clearly see that she was going to need it against the full weight of the Liberal establishment.

      • Fred from BC says:

She made it pretty clear that she wasn’t happy about having to do it, but they left her little choice. What would you have done, in her position?

      • Nick says:

Who would trust someone who will gag you then brazenly repeatedly smear your and any one else’s reputation just to get re-elected? Clearly, she was aware it was necessary to cover herself. She did so reluctantly but wisely.

    • Mike Jeffries says:

      Well, finally some leadership!
It’s impossible for JRW & JP to remain in caucus. How can they when they don’t support the leader? Either they get a new leader to unite all or keep JP and turf the dissidents!

      • Fred from BC says:

        “or keep JP”

(I’m just going to assume that you meant “JT” there…;)

But yeah, should be interesting. Especially seeing who else chooses to either resign or cross the floor, because someone will.

  12. Sean says:

The use of recording is a necessity in some situations. The senior being abused in a nursing home, a teacher behaving inappropriately, a student being relentlessly bullied, a psycho boss who is inflicting mental cruelty upon an employee.

  13. Grant says:

What kind of campaign will Trudeau conceivably be able to mount if he runs this fall? It’s not like he can run on his record….or honesty….or morality….or transparency….or effective leadership…..or feminism…..or anything else that I can see.

The Laurentian elite Deep State runs deep into the Canadian media, academia, and commentariat. It is DefCon 1 for them. We will see them in action.

He could run on his hair.

Similar strength to when he won in 2015.

  14. HarryR says:

Early in the conversation Wernick in a reference to SNC-L’s position said, “…….. and what’s going on in Calgary and what not”……
Question – does anyone know “what’s going in Calgary”, in this context? Enquiring Calgarians need to know!

    • Tom from Calgary says:

If I was going to assume… and I very much am… it may be a reference to alleged financial irregularities by the BMO on the Kinder Morgan TMX purchase and alleged attempts by the government to shield the BMO from said alleged irregularities.

There has been a very tiny bit of coverage from US sources on that allegation but none I’ve seen in Canadian media. Grain of salt worthy but it would certainly fit with the worldview being expressed by JT and company right now.

    • Walter says:

What’s going on in Calgary, not much – just the loss of a couple of hundred thousand jobs.
Nothing as important as 9,000 jobs in Quebec and some juicy donations from SNC executives.

    • Gord Tulk says:

17,000 job losses in yyc in December alone.

That’s allegedly two SNC-Lavalins. But this time it’s because the LPC didn’t do its constitutional duty and tell / make B.C. To let the pipelines be built.

      • Mike Jeffries says:

LPC never had intentions to build pipelines! It’s in their DNA to not build pipelines. Buy them yes to shut them down. After all the current KM pipe is old, will soon leak, and should be shut down. And moreover, Justin has said: ” We need to phase them out.” i.e. oil sands and their pipes! Don’t you see they did do their “constitutional” duty — the very anti-oil pro-environment composition of the Liberal beast!

    • John McGuillacutty says:

Oil patch job losses – 17,000 in December
