Be careful what you ask for, Mr. Trudeau

You just might get it.

As far as I am aware, this has never happened before: Trudeau will be the first Prime Minister investigated by an international body, during an election, for genocide.

Which he’s admitted to.

While I am completely on side with the cause, I honestly can’t find any definition of genocide which does not include intention. Improperly using that term for the MMIWG report erodes the seriousness of what has happened. This PM is tossing the word around simply because he thinks its popular to do so, which is despicable. He has achieved the impossible – making this situation WORSE.

A genocide. Not really.More like 1000’s of woman murdered or missing because cops didn’t care the government didn’t care and because they didn’t care men chose to rape and murder woman because they could get away with it. Including cops across Canada involved in murder and cover up.So let’s focus on the real reason….no accountability for crimes committed especially against average Canadians and especially the less fortunate. The justice system bears the brunt of this mentality which brings about rape and murder. Rape victims treated like the criminals. RCMP that are a disgrace as seen in a tape of a young indigenous teenager . One that caused outrage. Why do we need outrage to solve a problem and get an investigation . Pathetic justice system and law enforcement whose abuse of the rights and freedoms has resulted in this traveety of missing and murdered first nations girls. Look at the case at Donald Best.ca where a judge and defence lawyer had private criminal correspondence contained in a secret file. Incredible fraud on the courts . Let’s see what occurs. A cover up only compounds the problem of people thinking they can go unpunished including raping and murder. That is why we have this tragedy. Not a genocide. What moron would call it this is clearly not fit to oversee anything.

When one apologizes for everything, one apologizes for nothing.

This was the potential risk with the inquiry, from day one. The organizers and authors of the inquiry competing with each other as to who can come up with the greatest hyperbole. Now the chickens have come home to roost.

Yes, it is a tragedy that these women were murdered, or went missing. Yes, it is at least partially a product of poverty and ongoing challenges in the Indigenous community. But it is not “genocide”. To call it such is a huge insult to people who have suffered actual genocides (Nazi Germany; Ukraine holodomor; Rwanda; etc…).

It’s not a surprise that the MMIWG authors ended up using the most provocative word they could summon, but it is unfortunate that there is acceptance of that word in the name of political correctness.

“This was the potential risk with the inquiry, from day one.”

That’s why a smart PM wouldn’t have even opened this inquiry when it was already proven that most of the murders were committed by indigenous men, and that the solve rate for these murders was comparable to that of general society.

Citing the CBC story, he said that “we accept the findings of the commissioners that it was genocide.” He seems to be saying that genocide was committed at some point in the past

as to when? – seems to leave that open

I have said it before, and will say it again as it relates to Justin Trudeau. “You cannot fix stupid”.

    • Vic says:

He’s so stupid he got elected Prime Minister. He did this after Canadians saw and heard HIM on the campaign trail, not because of spin doctors. You, on the other hand, are some guy commenting on a web site.

      • Fred from BC says:

“He’s so stupid he got elected Prime Minister. He did this after Canadians saw and heard HIM on the campaign trail, ”

No, we saw him but we *heard* Gerald and Katie. Every time he went off-script he was a disaster.

        • Vic says:

No, we saw him in debates pal. No script. Some of us try to be a little more honest in our appraisal of politicians.

          • Ronald O'Dowd says:

            Vic,

Fair point. But it hasn’t exactly been uphill since then. He should have fired them right after India but he didn’t and so…

          • Ronald O'Dowd says:

And then to deliberately compound the negative momentum with tossing JWR and JP. Absolutely idiocy, politically speaking.

          • Vic says:

            Ronald,
I’m of the opinion that Canadians are beginning to see this hoopla as a pile on by Conservatives and the media who love to promote a so called scandal. They don’t like it and you will see the polls reflect that very soon. Fantastic economy and great job reports will seal the deal.

          • Fred from BC says:

“No, we saw him in debates pal. No script.”

And no debate, either…just regurgitated Liberal taking points in response to every question.

“Some of us try to be a little more honest in our appraisal of politicians.”

            Not you, apparently.

          • Ronald O'Dowd says:

            Vic,

People have a viseral gut reaction to the sacking of JWR and JP. They know the PM caved to maximum-access pension aspirants otherwise known as caucus. Period. That’s why the PM’s personal popularity numbers are dropping like a stone. You really think a good economy and employment numbers trump that? If you’re right, I’m one hell of an idiot.

  6. Gilbert says:

The use of the word “genocide” seems far too strong. It’s clear that the prime minister is trying to salvage the native vote, but this is not the right way to do it.

  7. Dave Fuller says:

All the teenyboppers who wanted selfies with this fake (in EVERY way) Liberal leader 3 years ago have moved on.
I hope the Greens will eat his lunch and let the Conservatives govern. First line from the new PM should be
    “Now…. Canada is back!”

  8. Joseph says:

This is what happens when you have a PM whose skill set is being a totem of pretentiousness.

  9. Max says:

So if Trudeau was simply acknowledging that genocide had occurred at some point in the past (i.e. not on my watch), and given his propensity for apologizing, what is the time frame for when genocide occurred? Was it on PET’s watch? Chretien’s’ (Minister of Indian Affairs), Turner’s? Mulroney’s? on whose watch? Given the clear and precise nature of Sock-Boy’s ubiquitous apologies in the past, a nation (or 2 or 3 if you count Indigenous and Quebecois) awaits Trudeau’s parameters around his yet latest “I’m sorry for the genocide you experienced that happened before I showed up”.

  10. Dave says:

You Keep Using That Word, I Do Not Think It Means What You Think It Means “Inigo Montoya” 1987
