#LavScam shocker: Trudeau broke conflict law

That’s a ⁦Toronto Star⁩ headline, folks. Unless I’m missing something, Justin Trudeau just lost the federal election.

He personally broke the law.

  1. Never say never. But I don’t see how Broadhurst, Butts, or even God Almighty, can pull them out of this not so surprising tailspin.

  2. Sonja Alcock says:

Do you know if the RCMP is doing an investigation on this issue? Now that the Ethics Commissioner has put out his report confirming that Justin and his clan broke the law, will charges be laid by the RCMP?

  3. Wherry must be feeling weary.

  4. Douglas W says:

Dark, economic cloud storms, gathering on the horizon. This is what voters will be thinking about: what this’ll mean for them, and who can help them if things get tough. Sad, but I doubt many people care about how badly JW-R and Dr. JP were treated. Perpetrators are going to get off, Scot-free.

    • Walter says:

It’s a good thing we have 5 years of surplus that we can use to stimulate during a recession.
Oops – we didn’t vote Harper.

  5. WestGuy says:

Also, unless I misunderstand, it sounds like Trudeau refused to waive cabinet privilege for the Ethics Commission to conduct the full investigation. If that’s the case, THAT should stick hard.

    • Walter says:

Harper waive all cabinet privilege in the Duffy case (who happened to be found innocent). Was he rewarded.
In the court of public opinion, there was no benefit to waiving this. To the public, cuteness and hair matter more.

  6. Gyor says:

Under normal circumstances I would agree, but too many people are more afraid that Andrew is another Doug Ford so will look the other way when it comes to Trudeau ethical breaches.

  7. Jim Keegan says:

I would love to see the media pose some hard questions to Trudeau at his upcoming press conference, but I’m sure they won’t. $600 million or so goes a long way.

  8. Roger B says:

And I thought the ethics commissioner was just a federal government yes man. Congratulations Mr Dion on proving me wrong. Although he perhaps didn’t want to be implicated in a cover-up. So there’s that.

  9. Pedant says:

As much as I despise this Prime Minister (really the only one about which I can say that), I don’t really think anyone cares about this issue anymore.

    • Pedant,

Well, if that’s the case, then where is the 60-65% polling change metric coming from???

      • the real Sean says:

have to agree with Pedant…. Unfortunately, I think Canadians care about this as much as they cared about Harper being in contempt of Parliament.

        • Vancouverois says:

But this scandal is already the one that knocked Trudeau off his pedestal. Before this, it looked like his re-election would be a cakewalk.

We’ll see what happens when average voters really start to pay attention, in the last weeks of the campaign.

        • Fred from BC says:

“Unfortunately, I think Canadians care about this as much as they cared about Harper being in contempt of Parliament.”

Except that Harper was only found ‘guilty’ of being in contempt of Parliament by his political opponents, and only because he was a minority government (and, infuriatingly, he not only refused to bow to their legislative demands but continued to govern as if he had a majority). Justin Trudeau is the very first Prime Minister found guilty of breaking a federal statute, is he not?

Now that the RCMP are finally involved, it’s a whole different ball game…

    • lyn says:

Penant: Canadians had better care…Trudeau is a LIAR and will continue to be one destroying Canada as we know it. So I gather you are one that doesn’t really care about the issue anymore…if you are you had better wake up!!! Vote Scheer he is not TRUDEAU!!!

      • Scheer is lying about his willingness to tackle greenhouse gas emissions.

        • Fred from BC says:

“Scheer is lying about his willingness to tackle greenhouse gas emissions.”

As are all the other leaders…so what? What does that have to do with Trudeau’s lies? Does it make them less real to you?

      • Fred from BC says:

        “This is boderline slander

        No, it’s the truth.

“and speaks more to the commenters character than it does to Trudeau’s character.”

As does your refusal to acknowledge what we now know to be true: Justin Trudeau LIED. Period.

There is no amount of ‘spin’ that can possibly extricate you from this scandal. Burying your head in the sand won’t work, either. In light of the RCMP investigation now proceeding, my advice to you is to avoid all media for as long as possible (you seem a bit fragile)…

  10. Chris says:

JT is barrelling ahead. Sorry-Not Sorry. “I was protecting jobs.” “Canadians have a choice in October.” He has his story and he’s sticking to it. Unbelievable. Arrogant b**tard.

  11. Douglas W says:

    Luckiest PM, ever.

  12. A. Voter says:

Andrew Coyne’s first column of 2018 was about the Aga Khan vacation affair. Coyne quoted a law professor who said Trudeau’s trip to visit the Khan was not only an ethical lapse, but it was a violation of the criminal code and was punishable by up to five years in prison.
Now remember the news stories about the man in Quebec fined for singing in his car, or the guy looking at prison for not filling out a census form.
Anyone have a theme for the next election?

  13. joe says:

So essentially Justin is saying, yes I broke the law, but I am the Dear Leader and you’ll get over it, so let’s move on.

  14. joe says:

I’m curious, whatever happened to Trudeau’s libel lawsuit against Andrew Scheer?

  15. Steve says:

Enough is enough with the “aw, shucks, we can do better in the future” nonsense. The man-boy we elected PM four years ago reveals himself time and again as completely tone deaf to anything that doesn’t support his narrative. All questions on the ethics commissioner’s report were deflected with tired old talking points long since disproven, and he truly looked like he was hiding something.

People have been looking for bogeymen that are somehow trying to sabotage the country in the run-up to the election, or have the opinion that all politicians are ultimately the same. Make no mistake, folks: JT is the true bogeyman, an arrogant politician like no other, proven to have only the best interests of his inner circle in mind, not the voting public. And he will stop at nothing to get what he wants.

On discovering such a charlatan, voters have only one option: throw the bum out!

  16. Nick says:

What’s more concerning, if adopted, is McLellan’s report that suggests that in future it should not be inappropriate for the AG to intervene in cases where public interest is at stake! This along with the recommendation that AG and Minister of Justice roles not be separated is the final nail in the coffin of the rule of law!

  17. Joseph says:

So if the commissioner has determined that there was influence then the means test as to whether interference in a criminal prosecution has been met.
In the interests of preserving the integrity of the justice system it would be wise that someone be charged with the commission of a crime.

  18. Grant says:

Cue the paid for media slander of the ethics commissioner in 5…..4……3…..2….

  19. the real Sean says:

No one wants the guy gone more than I do, but….. He’s just too pretty for Joe and Jane Front Porch to believe he’s capable of intentionally doing something wrong.

  20. Gilbert says:

We know that Prime Minister Trudeau is shallow, arrogant and unqualified. Now it’s clear he’s also unethical.

  21. Matt says:

Yeah, but they followed up with an editorial this morning essentially justifying what Trudeau did.

  22. Doug says:

Does the report contain any new info about Butts? The key to defeating the Liberals is getting Butts off the campaign. He is the true enemy.
