Its been a long, long time since I wanted to do something as much as I want to do this.

I’ve been there. I loved it. I want to do this.

Should I?

Being a one-man newspaper is a young man’s game. But it certainly would be interesting, It’s been a few years but Skagway is an interesting community

Why not?….I suspect you would be the Ma Murray of Skagway in no time…..

For your readers who don’t know of Ma Murray…….https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_Lally_%22Ma%22_Murray

    Ontario’s loss would be Alaska’s and BC’s gain…..:)

We were in Skagway and other parts of Alaska this past summer (Haines; Juneau). What a gorgeous part of the world.

That said, Skagway is both blessed and cursed with cruise ship inundation. We drove to Skagway (from Whitehorse) rather than arriving by ship, so we were there both during and after the cruise ships had docked. The difference in the town is stark. When the ships disgorge their thousands of passengers, the town prospers, but it is not very pleasant to be within. Throngs of pushy tourists, all wanting to get their selfie and buy their souvenir in the brief time they have. When the ships leave, the town is lovely, quiet, and beautiful. Of course, businesses (like the newspaper) wouldn’t survive without the cruise passengers.

The nice thing about Skagway is that if you are willing to drive 10 minutes out of town, or hike anywhere that requires exertion, you can lose the cruise ship passengers pretty quickly.

Enjoy your visit, and good luck in your decision!

Warren, give your head a shake, eh. Criterion for the job is clear in that you need to be as weird as Sarah Palin, or weirder.

I have to agree that it would be FUN but cable tv, clothing, & food is not reason enough IMHO.

You would be bored out of your mind after living the big city life for most of your life.

Dreams are fun but rarely realistic when it involves wilderness living in the outback.

If your heart is in it. Go for it. Age is no issue. What would you tell your kids. Love it!

Not a good idea if you’re intent on assisting Hillary’s campaign next year. In hard-core Republican country your new-found printing presses may possibly attract the attention of the local Luddites.

Probably not as glamourous as Northern Exposure reruns, but I say do it!

There are 26 jewelry stores in Skagway (I counted when I was last there about five years ago.) The town appeared to be just an open-air shopping mall for visiting cruise-ship passengers. Great hiking just outside of town through. Whitehorse is a much more interesting and beautiful place.

    Do it. Follow your passion(!)

If you do this, I’d get an online subscription to support the paper.

  11. I don’t need to tell you that this is a matter before judge and jury — you may not necessarily agree with the jury but you had better heed the wise advice of your better-half judge.

(Lawyer talk, a force of habit.)
