Trump’s date with destiny

There is no doubt, by any reasonable standard, that Trump abused the power of his office when he bribed a foreign power to investigate a political rival he feared.  And there is no doubt that he obstructed the resulting investigation by Congress – by hiding evidence and blocking people from testifying.

He will be impeached by the House of Representatives today.  That’s inevitable. He will not, however, be removed from office by the Senate, after a “trial” there.  That, too, is inevitable.

Also inevitable: his legacy.  He will be remembered as a crook.

Complete farce and will lose in Senate. Each day is worse for the FBI/ Obama and Biden.

    Historic blunder by the Dems.

The virtue-signalling progressive zealots have hijacked the party (as they have spasmodically every few decades), refusing to acknowledge the legitimacy of the Trump presidency and now ruining the opportunity to beat him next November.

And very likely they will now lose the House and maintain Cocaine as Senate majority leader.

The wiser course of action would have been censure which would likely have gained some GOP support in both houses. But that is a moot point now.

2020 to 2024 America will become greater still!!

I believe the technical term for your post is concern trolling.

I’ve never seen you so concerned about Democratic Party electoral prospects. It’s touching, really.

      • Gord Tulk says:

Where do you get the idea that I am concerned about the Dems? The above is just my opinion on what has and will transpired and what the alternative was.

        • Fred from BC says:

He just can’t help himself, Gord. Any time anyone posts a fact or opinion that does not show Donald Trump in a completely negative light, he loses his mind and is immediately *compelled* to insult that person (no matter what the circumstances). Worst case of TDS I’ve ever seen…

          • Mike says:

From any comments I’ve read the Doctor exhibits a sound and balanced opinion. You, on the other hand, not so much.

      • Nicole says:

Trump has committed egregious crimes in front of everyone so the people who can’t see that really can’t see reality. If they didn’t impeach on this then the instrument of impeachment is nullified forever. Just because the GOP is so partisan and prepared to defend a despicable human being doesn’t mean the House should not have proceeded with this.

The GOP are going to pay for this in the long run even if they manage to short change this trial. The senators in the swing states who acquit him are losing their seats because most Americans are just tired of this crazy man.

        • lyn says:

Nicole: You are dead wrong the Dems are going to lose mega time. You just don’t like Trump and that is your problem. He has done more for America than any other Pres. and that just drives you crazy. GO TRUMP GO MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.

    • lyn says:

Gord Tulk: I totally agree with you.

  3. If polling follows the previous impeachment pattern, it will benefit Trump in the election. But that’s not a guarantee so it could, theoretically, still benefit the Democrats. I won’t call it either way other than to say that I agree with all those that say it’s DOA on Senate arrival.

(After all, Elaine likes her job and Mitch would hate suddenly becoming a sole-provider.)

    • The Doctor says:

We are in historically unprecedented territory. Trump’s polling and approval numbers are remarkably sticky and static by all historical standards. He is not likely to benefit all that much from impeachment, nor is he likely to be damaged all that much.

I notice that all the pro-Trumpers on this site are arguing about impeachment in purely political terms, i.e., whether or not it’s a wise political move by the Democrats. What about doing the right thing morally and ethically. You know, condemning and punishing reprehensible behaviour? Or is that just out of fashion these days?

      • Shawn says:

What about doing the right thing morally and …………

And what? The left has morals? Paleeeeeese.

        • The Doctor says:

Shawn, whether people whom you consider to be “the left” have morals or not is beside the point.

The point is whether what Trump did was wrong and ergo impeachable.

Your “argument” seems to be that you shouldn’t convict an accused if someone on the jury is a bad person. It’s a lousy, illogical argument, but typical of the kind of deflection and lame excuse-making that we constantly see from Trump supporters.

Sort of like when some guy who refuses to let all kinds of witnesses testify and who refuses to provide all kinds of documents to a tribunal then claim that he was denied due process.

      • Gord Tulk says:

I think impeachment is far too severe – obama did far worse as have other presidents. A censure would be the more appropriate option. And I think a lot of conservatives agree.

      • Fred from BC says:

“I notice that all the (people who are concerned about due process) on this site are arguing about impeachment ”

        (Fixed your post, Doc…)

    • The president benefited in one out of the three previous impeachments, the other two ended in resignation and defeat in the primary.

In Canada we call this process a $200 fine.

  5. I’ve been steadily listening to this on CSPAN all day. I find holes as big as a truck in both the Democrat and Republican argumentation. I blame both sides and am totally dissatisfied with the weak nature of the Impeachment Articles (Abuse of Power and Obstruction of Congress). There should have been at least an additional article on Obstruction of Justice.

I will have plenty to say on this later, so I won’t bore readers any further.

“I’ve been steadily listening to this on CSPAN all day. I find holes as big as a truck in both the Democrat and Republican argumentation”

No, no…you can’t say that, Ronald, sorry.

That would make you pro-Trump. You’re only allowed to criticize the Republican arguments.
