Thought for today, and the coming days

Indeed. I pray for their well-being, but also that they will transcend their bitter, dysfunctional partisan divide in order to make common cause both in action and spirit. Sadly, I’m not seeing much evidence of that so far. Some, like Governors Newsom and Cuomo (hardly Trump fans), seem to be parking politics for the common good, resisting attacks and cooperating with Trump, who I think is also trying to be statesmanlike, albeit with less than 100% success so far. But most congresspeople are hopelessly addicted to the rancor and the media is appalling. They are proving their lifeblood is dissension and division. Hence this kind of a a-plague-on-all-our-houses screed. The more I think of it, the more I think Biden’s ad below was a mistake and will hurt him if he doesn’t shift gears soon.

So far we are doing better. Trudeau can’t really be faulted except for blandness, but the really impressive two are Ford and Legault. Ford’s at 75% approval and Legault is off the charts. Spirited, resolute, decisive, determined and leaving no doubt who is in charge and what could happen to anyone who forgets it. Not a partisan word to be heard. It’s called crisis leadership.

BTW, did you all see the national clap-a-thon the Brits organized to salute their healthcare workers? Quite moving. The Victoria cops organized something similar. Wouldn’t it be a great Canadian gesture to organize something like that nationwide rather than carping on social media about this and that. These people are truly the heroes of the hour. One is in my family and I know the fear they are living with. Let’s get our priorities straight, people.

My god. OH my god. Did you see his interview with Hannity last night? How is he not being removed from office under the 25th amendment? He is getting his own people killed and doesn’t give one fucking shit about it. What a nightmare.

I’d put Brazil on that list. Bolsonaro seems to be more deranged than Trump. And Brazil has less money, less infrastructure and resources and significantly more poverty than the US.

This is also a good read. Describes the Covid-19 timeline, what Justin Trudeau was advised to do, and when, and what he actually did:
