WE take care of our friends

Alex Ballingall at the Toronto Star has done outstanding work on this burgeoning scandal. (So much for your media conspiracy theories, conservative trolls.)

Yet another step towards full on banana republic status for Canada. Who needs a civil service when you can have Dear Leader hand out the candy.

Can I stake out the term Troligarchy?

  2. the real Sean says:

If you can’t use a pandemic to make your friends rich, what’s the point in running for office in the first place?!

  3. Pedant says:

I think you’ll find most Conservatives don’t much care about the Star. It can do and say what it wants, it’s not taxpayer funded (well, aside from Trudeau $600 million bailout).

But I wonder when Canada’s state-funded media organ will report on Gerald Butts’ recent tweet showing a map of the US strewn with racist and prejudiced epithets? He seems to think calling a state “Congo” constitutes an insult and has some serious problems toward people of the Christian faith.

  4. Yet Another Calgarian says:

And according to the PBO the Liberals still havent been able to provide information on 20000 public works projects they’ve approved.

Whole other level than envelopes of cash.

  5. Dave says:

Meh. So much hoopla for something Canadians won’t give a sh*t about when they vote him back in. With the crap show the conservatives are putting on this is just the new normal.

      Dave,

Some people never learn. They take an exceedingly bad idea and run with it — just ask Mulroney and Chrétien — or that guy Martin, who ultimately lost power because of it.

Just pass this info on to your MehPrimeMinisterTM since he’s obviously basically clueless.

As much as I didn’t care for Harper from the get-go, he actually respected the taxpayer and didn’t screw around with the country’s finances. If there was CPC consistent and self-evident largesse toward their friends during Harper’s government, then someone please rapidly bring me up to speed. Maybe I missed it but I doubt it.

    • Douglas W says:

      Harper: unlikeable.
      But ran a decent government.
Knew the files. Had good briefing notes.

Take him over numb nuts, any day.

    • There where billions in corporate tax cuts. Harper has so many friends in business, his largesse was a lot more expensive.

      • Yet Another Calgarian says:

More expensive than the truckloads of cash being thrown out the door right now?

        Somehow I sincerely doubt that.

And as pro business as Harper allegedly was he never tried to interfere in criminal prosecutions of companies that he was “friends” with.

        • He did arrange payments to try to keep Senator Duffy from facing the consequences of his actions. Maybe his ministers help out thier friends without needing to be asked.

Do the Conservatives have a cheaper plan to prevent economic devastation and loss of life?

          • Chris Sigvaldason says:

One of Harper’s aides took cash FROM HIS OWN BANK ACCOUNT and paid Duffy’s dubious expenses.

No bribes were taken from any Libyan dictators’ sons. No money was funneled through Liberal-friendly Quebec advertising firms. No $900-million sole-source contracts were awarded to Harper-related charities or foundations.

          • Pedant says:

No, PM Harper did no such thing. Nigel Wright paid out of his own pocket. When did Harper “arrange” any of that?

Would you like to repeat your accusation of corruption against the former PM, or will you retract your statement?

And is that all you’ve got? One $90K private exchange (no taxpayer money) over the course of 9 years? That’s your big counter-example?

  7. Hugh says:

This government has given rise to the banality of corruption.

  8. Gilbert says:

When Stephen Harper was prime minister, the country was well managed. The scandals in his government were nothing compared to the ones in this government. This government is really corrupt.

Now let me turn to Gerald Butts. I found the map that he tweeted very offensive. It seems he’s not very tolerant of those with views different from his own.

    • Ronald O'Dowd says:

      Dave,

Too funny. This Prime Minister allegedly can’t even get the story right and CW says this is the guy who everyone takes for granted is about to win a second majority???

      Don’t think so.
