My latest Sun Media hit: Trump, Trumpism and Truth

He’s been impeached, again. But does it matter? I say in this story that it really doesn’t.

The divide in the electorate is no longer going to be right-left or liberal-conservative. Hell the original concept of liberalism is considered right wing in todays world.

    But I digress.

The growing divide is between blue collar – white collar, or as I like to put it, the producers vs the overhead. Working class vs elites if you prefer that metaphor, but that’s what it’ll be.

I’ve done a lot of time in both producing and overhead, and have seen the divide widen.

There is also a growing urban-rural divide, the two (divides) are almost, but not quite the same. Cities seem to have forgotten that their very existence is because of what goes on outside of them.

The working class being ignored by the political elites (the most expensive & inefficient overhead) on both sides for so long is what put Trump in power.

All wealth comes from harvested resources.
They are pulled from the sea.
      Dug up.
      Cut down or
      Grown.
      That’s it.
80% of the people that do that work don’t live in cities.
      We do.
I think the growers are the most important.
      Then comes transportation.
      Then health workers.

As for us? We just manage the world’s largest stolen property department.
      Just a thought.

Have to disagree on a few points.

Impeachment should go through at a minimum to bar him from running again. Future presidents facing a ten month lame duck period after losing an election need to know that there are consequences during that period.

Trump supporters also need to witness their hero face as much humiliation / degradation as possible. His image and empire must be completely destroyed. They need to understand that their cause was hopeless. The Republican Party is drowning. They deserve an anchor, not a life jacket. They need to experience a defeat that is total and unambiguous. They need to see Trump spend the rest of his life in prison. His family needs to see that to, so that they don’t get any ideas about running themselves.

Also disagree that we will ever see anything like Trump again. Movements must experience victories. Trump, with only the 2016 fluke election as an exception, has brought the movement nothing but misery, loss and disgrace. The movement will fizzle out because eventually his supporters will realize wasting their time and energy didn’t save their coal mining jobs, didn’t stop immigration, didn’t lower taxes, didn’t end Obamacare, didn’t achieve anything. I don’t think for a minute that these people will become enlightened… But they would have been better off keeping their head down and kicking an empty can down the street of their boarded up home town than they were by supporting this scum for 4 years.

I feel a second impeachment trial is truly a waste of time and money. Many people are upset with President Trump. The problem, though, is that there is no guarantee the senate will vote to impeach and this will be a distraction during Joe Biden’s presidency.

It should be enough to condemn the president’s actions and charge him with crimes once he leaves the White House. If the senate doesn’t impeach, the country will be greatly divided.

I don’t think it will be close. Republican Senators never gave a shit about Trump or his issues or his imbecile supporters. They saw him as a meal ticket and that’s all. Once he’s out of office they’ll drop him in the Senate. Other Republican Presidential candidates will want to crucify Cruz and Hawley and they’ll use impeachment to isolate them / cull the herd.

      • FE,

Like I said before, I don’t favour conviction at trial. The last thing the United States needs is another renegade spark. The risk of Civil War II is already far too high now without resorting to conviction and barring him from holding political office ever again.

I realize it’s a tough call, but there is absolutely nothing that is going to assuage hard-core Trump supporters. They’re going to be full of delusions, bullshit and insane rage no matter what.

So give that, I think it’s important to stand up for rule of law and the principle that no person should be above the law. On that basis, to the extent that Trump has broken laws, he should be held accountable. I don’t think the next Administration and Congress should obsess about it and have enormous chunks of time taken up over it, but the legal process should be allowed to run its course. It’s important to send out the signal that if you break the law, you face the consequences.

It is tricky to determine who is less ethical – those who continue to support Trump, or those who pretend to now oppose him because he has become radioactive. The riots last week were certainly bad, but they are nothing compared to all the bad things Trump has done during his entire term. Yet nearly all Republican politicians stood by Trump during those 4 years. The sudden mock outrage (by a few of them) at Trump is a pathetic attempt to save their own political skin. I hope voters see through it.

    from day you’re born
    till the day you die
men with guns are gonna tell you why
you need to jump and just how high
hands up reach for the sky

when you don’t control the money
    you can’t control the gun
    when you can’t the gun
    you can’t get anything done.

    just a thought
