Front of today’s Globe

I wonder if people are going to continue to say that those of us at the Sun are overreacting?

If Justin stayed in bed every morning at least Canadians would be less confused. Give them some credit at least… The government’s lies are exposed within days, so they are getting much more efficient. Worst Liberal leader of all time. Not even a debate. Turner, Dion and Ignatieff at least had some dignity. RESIGN RESIGN RESIGN. Cabinet – step up, stop enabling this nonsense. You are destroying your own careers.

  2. joe long says:

Justin’s basic COVID strategy is to make press announcements every few days to keep his face in front of the public.

When the press gets too negative, the PMO releases distraction news, for example the Payette story.

Yesterday with great fanfare, the PM said they’d signed a memorandum of understanding to make a vaccine in Canada. Starting in July.
    …oops September,
    … oops late December.

  3. Martin says:

43rd and continuing to drop on shots delivered.

  4. Derek Pearce says:

I wonder if he’ll actually resign and let Freeland take the fall instead a la Mulroney re Campbell. Hmmm.

    • Ronald O'Dowd says:

      Derek,

He and Freeland see her as the natural extension once his disastrous prime ministership has ended. Right now, only Carney stands in the way — assuming that he’s still interested — which I’m sure he is. Maybe they’ll be other alternatives and maybe not.

  5. Nick M. says:

    Latest G&M headline,
“Canada the only G7 country to take vaccines from fund for developing countries”

    YIKES

    • PAMELA LEVY says:

This is the worst. Absolutely the worst. My Dad served in WW2 and for the first time in my life I am embarrassed to be Canadian.

    • Mark D says:

National Post: “Canada boosts vaccine order by tapping global pool originally set up for poorer nations”

I really don’t feel good about this as a Canadian.

      • Mark,

        God won’t like it either.

        • Mark D says:

          Ronald:

I’m a social conservative who generally thinks threats of “God’s condemnation” are thrown around too willy nilly these days. After all, as the saying goes, “God’s love for us trumps His justice.”

That being said, even I am having a difficult time with this one. Mistreating and stealing from the poor and/or the foreigner, are repeatedly condemned throughout the Bible as that rare category of “sins that cry out to God for vengeance.”

Not that I think God is going to raise up Godzilla from the Rideau Canal to trample center block at Parliament Hill, but I definitely think this hurts our moral authority witin the international community. It also weakens our pride as Canadians in that as serious as this epidemic is, taking vaccines from a pool originally set up for poorer nations is a huge contradiction of our self-image as advocates of fair play within the global village. Especially after we just finished heaping collective scorn on that rich couple that chartered a flight to a small community in the territories in order to jump the vaccine queue.

          • Ronald O'Dowd says:

            Mark,

Which is worse? Anyone who is of that mindset? Or those who reflexively in the PMO quickly nod in agreement rather than taking Himself on?

  6. The Doctor says:

I think this newfound attention to his failings is also a function of Trump no longer being President down south. Trump’s buffoonery and incompetence simply made anyone else, including JT, look good by comparison. Now JT is actually being judged on his own merits.

  7. whyshouldIsellyourwheat says:

The basic plan is still intact.

    1) The PMO is embedded at the CBC and CTV.
    2) Big distractionary budget coming in March.
    3) Delay tax filing deadline from April 30 to September (to avoid people realizing they have to pay tax on the CERB)
    4) Early May election.
    5) Scary conservative candidates, even though more Liberal MPs have been forced to leave because of actual criminality.

The vaccines are the big bugaboo in the plan. But they probably go anyways, since a pandemic election is a sure thing. No secret ballot (with mail-in voting). Party volunteers can collect/harvest ballots and drop them off in an unmonitored dropbox.

    • Derek Pearce says:

You sounded reasonable until you went whackadoodle conspiracy time with your “no secret ballots” talk. Elections Canada will still run a free and fair, secret-ballot election. But hey keep spewing this stuff it only damages the Conservatives when you do, so by all means go ahead…

      • whyshouldIsellyourwheat says:

A secret ballot has not only be to cast in secret, but observed to be cast in secret.

Mail-in votes don’t meet that standard.

Secure ballot custody also means that the ballots should always be under the control of Elections Canada.

Mail-in votes or a party worker collecting and dropping off hundreds of ballots at a time doesn’t not qualify.

A free and fair election requires both a secret ballot and secure ballot custody.

        Our spring election will not.

Voting is an act done in secret, observed to be so in public.

Yes, an election that is actually free and fair imposes inconveniences.

I am alleging any conspiracy. I’m just saying that Elections Canada has forgotten the key essentials of a free and fair election in their pandemic proposals.

      • The Doctor says:

I had the same reaction Derek.

      • Pedant says:

Why do you think Liberals are so enthusiastic that people are allowed to vote without any ID ?

I think if one were to do a proper investigation one might uncover very interesting things about the citizenship of voters in Toronto and Vancouver last election.

        • Most ids don’t tell you if someone is a citizen or not.

          • Pedant says:

I’m aware of that. Elections Canada however allows voting with no ID and no voter card if someone “vouches” for them. You think election workers do much scrutinizing? The Liberals are well aware that most non-citizens illegally voting will cast a ballot for them.

          • The Doctor says:

Why will most non-citizens illegally voting cast a vote for the Liberals? Why not the Conservatives? NDP? Greens?

Do you have any actual evidence or studies backing this assertion up? Also do you have any evidence or studies showing how many “non-citizens illegally” voted in the last federal election?

        • Ronald O'Dowd says:

          Pedant,

In Quebec, ID is now mandatory at the provincial level. No one has ever voted in my place but someone did years ago in a provincial election before my Mom showed up at the polls.

  8. Chris Scott says:

You were not overreacting. You were just ahead of the pack in seeing the looming disaster. Finally some others are starting to clue in.

Today, with just 2.3% of Canadians vaccinated we rank 36 in the world per cap. For sure some people will make excuses, and others will accept them, but not me. Canada has so much more potential than this. As a former President used to tweet: SAD!

    Cheers,
    Chris

  9. Phil in London says:

Sadly the phrase “electors get the government they deserve” applies.
Happy to buy cheap crap at Walmart and use the savings to buy an overpriced hunk of real estate. Honestly there is a direct line of our own complacency to be content for goods to be produced cheaper elsewhere as there is to the fact we are now reliant on others to manufacture our vaccines.
Speaking of cheap crap, it was a whole lot easier to vote for the black-faced two-faced devil we knew than to put a little effort into considering any of the other guys or gals.
We were just as corrupt as the emperor who clearly was wearing no clothes of substance.
Please spare me the plea that you didn’t vote for turdo. If you didn’t call out your neighbour who placed the red rag on her lawn, you like me are an accomplice to the mess we are in. Sadly without a Covid vaccine scandal a lot of us would look away at other scandalous behaviour.
We don’t elect a government, we choose the king or queen we bow to in this nation. We’ve been doing it for decades.

    • Peter says:

Yup, that’s what we need all right. Let’s all start calling out our neighbours if they don’t vote the way we think they should. Maybe we could try to embarrass them in restaurants too, or try to forbid our kids from dating theirs. Then we could have a happy, cohesive well-governed country like our friends to the south do.

    • Phil,

I don’t know about you but I’ve got major trouble picturing Harper as a Canadian king. (No offense, Stephen.) LOL.

    • Derek Pearce says:

If the Conservatives hadnt picked Scheer before the last election perhaps things could’ve been different. But they did and he was a dud. Also (& no I didn’t vote for Trudeau) this whole thing is more a result of Canada’s generic drug-pricing regime rather than who’s the PM. If Scheer had been elected we’d be in the same boat. Time to ensure we have domestic vaccine manufacturing capacity permanently from now on. Hell, set up an old-fashioned Crown corp if need be.

    • Phil in London says:

What I am trying to say whether we vote conservative or liberal or any other party. We are more like fans cheering a hockey game than thoughtful electors. I’m not one for violence but I’m also saddened by how impossible it is to talk politics because voters are fans (I.e. Fanatics) and on all sides rarely can they look at the other side and not see a reptilian baby eater

  10. Martin says:

46th and continuing to drop on shots delivered.

  11. Ronald O'Dowd says:

    They let her vote anyway.

  12. Ronald O'Dowd says:

In my book, Elections Canada should be a permanent organization who would have the mandate of helping those who have trouble producing totally legitimate IDs come into compliance when we’re not in an election period. In other words, move heaven and earth so that every vote counts — thanks to the knowledge and assistance of Elections Canada.

But total assholes like our Republican friends in so many state capitals don’t want all people to vote legitimately. What they want precisely is to delegitimize and disenfranchise all potential voters who are more than likely not to vote Republican. They are for destroying democracy and only letting their side vote with a 100% effect. They don’t give a damn if their own voters show up with fraudulent or fake IDs — all they care about is getting in those Republican votes.

Careful assholes, God is watching and was pleased to render judgment in so many races in 2020…and praise the Lord for that!
