Honestly, I don’t think context matters… How could a senior official with any moral / ethical scruples at all possibly be looking at COVID from that angle during the crisis?! Chrystia Freeland shrugged through Lavscam. She shrugged through Blackface x 3. She shrugged through WEscam. She turned to Doug Ford for therapy. Her own words. How about, “any great change in society represents political opportunity for all political parties to present a bold vision for changes they believe will positively impact society in a “new normal” type of condition”?
Pointing out the silver linings associated with any great tragedy isn’t scandalous, it’s rational. As someone who would love to see society take great strides forward in a variety of areas, I hope that all of the miseries caused by the pandemic can at least serve as a catalyst for major changes in some areas. And if that is “political opportunity”, then you either have to consider Freeland’s remarks to be less than scandalous, or lump me in along with her as a villain.
