I got the shot

In my case, the only reaction I had was the weight of invisible barbells on my shoulders the next day. My final AZ shot is in early August. No blood clots so far.

I’d sorely hate to drop dead before the election! Maybe God will be in my corner.

  2. Ditto (without the JT side effects though).

The other thing is, is COVID-19 a precursor to a highly effective instrument of war? My response: of course it is. Most nations are war gaming it, to their credit reactively but for one, it was the quite deliberate opposite. Imagine a scenario where a virus commonly found in nature is genetically modified not once, not repeatedly but potentially hundreds to thousands of times. Variants are a normal course that follow an initial virus but imagine variants that cross the spectrum as to levels of transmission and potential for morbidity.

Can vaccines keep up? Is herd immunity even possible under such a scenario? Could we see COVID-19 still with us in five or even ten years?

All of the above to this point is supposition flowing from one person’s overactive imagination. Or is it? Interesting questions.

I’m no virologist or doctor after all.

…make sure you watch Dr. Redfield’s segment on the Wuhan lab in the CNN documentary….

Justin’s news conference… He seemed so firm and resolute… my gosh he even extended his hand towards the camera, as if connecting with millions of suffering Canadians…. exuding a high level of sincerity and thoughtfulness that was very appropriate….. for an eight year old’s birthday party.

Even without your dystopic scenarios (you would be a fun addition to any dinner table), several years may be likely before it at least goes dormant. We know a great deal today (not everything) about what causes pandemics, how to treat them and how to immunize against them, but what is poorly understood is how they end, other than by mass vaccinations. The Black Death swept across the world with lightning speed, killing between a third and half of Europe and the Middle East quickly and horribly, but then it went dormant for reasons nobody knows. It, or members of its family, actually resurfaced somewhere in the world almost every year for hundreds of years, but it almost always stayed localized, again for reasons nobody really knows. Some researchers suggest it was due to quarantines and other public health measures, but given actual conditions of life and the state of medical knowledge in those times, that seems a huge stretch by any standard. Herd immunity can’t explain why they stayed localized. Anyway, surveying the history of plagues and pandemics, of which there have been many, it appears most of them lasted between three and five years.

The other mystery is that, even though the racing Black Death reached its tentacles into the remotest corners of Europe, there were isolated pockets that mysteriously remained unaffected, such as much of Bohemia.

I must have missed the presser. Thank god for small blessings. Getting a little tired of wearing hair shirts. My wife and I are getting the first shot tomorrow. Since our boy genius won’t extend the tax deadline, I am really hoping for no serious side effects.

Just watched our over her head revenue minister again refuse to extend during QP. I miss Jane Stewart and Paul Martin when the Liberals had qualified people at Revenue and Finance.

      Martin,

They’ve spent far in excess of drunken sailors and according to some stats even more than the United States so they are getting desperate for revenue. Trouble is the tax base both corporate and personal can never even come close to achieving meaningful debt reduction, much less elimination of deficits. That’s why a debt jubilee is the only way out both in this country and in the United States. And for that, we need protracted deflation.

CMHC requires a “stress test” on mortgages, to ensure that WHEN interest rates rise the homeowner can afford to make the increased monthly payments. This makes eminent sense because interest rates are at or near historic lows.

Sadly, the same government that created the CMHC “stress test” is ignoring the consequences on future federal budgets of WHEN interest rates rise again.

Dimwitted? Perhaps. Taking advantage of a pandemic induced opportunity? Absolutely.
