Ottawa sucks

Yep, this seems to be the excuse we Canadians use for everything. If we are doing better than the U.S., then we stick our heads in the sand and don’t look any further. It’s been the primary reason for decades that our healthcare system is such a mess. We aren’t as bad as the U.S., so we pat ourselves on the back and ignore the lessons of dozens of other countries around the world who consistently outperform us (all of which have parallel public/private health systems).

Now that fake premise is falling apart with COVID – but it shouldn’t have ever been there in the first place. I hope that our COVID disaster becomes the only campaign issue in the next election. It sure should be.

    Warren,

Unfortunately for the CPC, you’ll never, ever, be a Trudeau Liberal but your heart and soul will always be a Liberal. Otherwise, one would have hoped that Team O’Toole would have the brains to put YOU in charge of that war room. In short, with Kinsella, we win. Without K in a major role, probably not, unless DeLorey is up to the task.

    • Come to think of it, I don’t see how DeLorey can be truly effective and results oriented as national campaign chair and chief war room tactician IF, once again, he’s running at the same time in Central Nova, MacKay’s riding. I like to call it good common sense and most fellow Conservatives are quite obviously very likely to agree with me.

Campaigns need to be ultra careful recruiting staff with a known profile and should generally avoid it. The staff becomes the story. Harper 2005…. Had anyone heard of any of his staff? To paraphrase an old friend at my local pub…. “If you understand this you are either a Prince already… or well on the way to becoming one”.

    Meanwhile…

Has anyone heard what floating around out there about Bernier’s political status? To me it sounds like pure BS but maybe there’s something to it. Thanks.

Warren. Call O’Toole. Offer help. Let us know. Others will join in.

    Cheers!

I wrote to Conservative leader O’Toole last week and told him to contact Warren to get CPC numbers up. I told him that if he continues on the trajectory he is on he will be up for leadership review instead of an election.

Everyone knows that Warren can put a dent in the Liberal numbers, but the CPC people obviously enjoy sucking their thumbs in dark corners dreaming of the days when CPC leadership was not found wanting.

Warren would only need trained monkeys to boost CPC numbers instead of pre-schoolers. Pre-schoolers are overqualified IMHO.

As a Liberal I, for one, am upset that the CPC is this slow.

Wishful thinking on my part, I fear, but…. perhaps Erin is laying out in the weeds, preparing and hoping “Mr Selfie” calls an election, before showing all his cards and springing into action….

BINGO! Harper was a master at that in 2005/6. No one had any inclination as to how incendiary his platform was going to be… Least of all his own party…. many of whom were demanding his head on a platter in the Fall of ’05.

      • Ronald O'Dowd says:

        IRMTF,

Yup. Plett saved Harper’s ass in 2005. Without that demonstration of loyalty and commitment to the brand, Harper would have resigned, period.

It seems that both God and Plett wanted Harper to at least have one kick at the can. Had Harper been politically savvy and reasonably Conservative, he might very well still be PM today. But No, those of us counselling middle-of-the-road Conservatism knew nothing. Same thing with this PM: he was dead wrong on SNC and now on vaccine procurement. Just another foolish prime minister who doesn’t listen to enlightened advice from politicos who actually know what they are doing strategically speaking…and I don’t mean just me.

(And No, not looking for a job in Ottawa, nor political patronage of any kind, nor a new client for our business.)

        • irreversible road map to freedom says:

are you hiring? I feel like we speak the same language a lot of the time. Warren has my e-mail if you want to follow up.

          • Ronald O'Dowd says:

            IRMTF,

I consider your comment to be quite the compliment. Thank you. However, we are a small family business based in one city and unfortunately do not have any openings at the moment. IMHO, you will be an asset to any company that will be lucky enough to hire you. Best of luck in your job search.

(If I was well connected in the major cities, it would be my pleasure to make some calls but regrettably I’m not.)

The Liberals’ base of young women in Ontario with lower than average IQ who vote based on hairdo couldn’t care less about Covid. Their age group isn’t catching it (in significant numbers).

    • Ronald O'Dowd says:

      Pedant,

I may not and probably don’t like the way certain categories of voters cast their ballots but this is a democracy so I will at least respect every vote, until the day that we are no longer a democracy.

      • Ronald O'Dowd says:

        Phil,

The immigration meme may or may not necessarily be entirely accurate. It purports to suggest that immigrants who become citizens and their children tend to vote for the party that was in power when they became landed immigrants. If that’s the case, then during Harper’s ten years, a lot of new Conservatives were added to the voting roles. Just ask Kenney if you must. Ditto, to the benefit of Liberals post 2015. I have absolutely no problem with that just as I have no problem with native-born, First Nations and other Indigenous Canadians voting in a certain manner.

        • Ronald O'Dowd says:

Now, as regards mostly economic migrants who arrive illegally in the United States: only two groups of immigrants should be admitted legally, namely, those who follow the legitimate immigration process and those who have demonstrably proven an asylum claim. However, all immigrants have a right under American law to MAKE an asylum claim. And it must be processed and adjudicated on. Those arriving with relatives in the United States should stay with them during the hearing process. Others, unfortunately, must remain in custody during those legal proceedings. Of course, that means no one in cages — not adults nor children.

Purportedly, Mexico is seriously looking at building its own wall (which won’t work any more than American walls and barriers) cause as the old saying goes: If there’s a will, there’s a way.

What will work is economic empowerment for South and Central Americans in their own countries. The United States is already doing that and needs to do much more. THAT’S how you seriously reduce the flow of economic migrants who cross illegally into America. No other way has even a hope of working. Just ask Israel about their walls.

        • Ronald O'Dowd says:

And finally, one must address the subtle subtext that is quite fortunately not the mindset of most fair-minded Americans: the idea that white people, like myself, somehow have a divine right to call the tune in a country without minimum interference or implication of minority communities. Hence over 300 bills in Republican controlled legislatures across the United States to explicitly deny minority communities their legitimate right to vote. In other words, whitey gets to decide. Now you know why I consider so many Republicans at the state level as pure scumbags. Many minority voters are poor with no capacity of producing a voting ID with a photograph because they do not own a car nor have a driver’s license. And that’s what so many people don’t get. They somehow think that because the middle and upper classes are easily able to meet all state voting requirements that it’s a foregone conclusion that poor minorities can also do so with the same ease. The news flash is that they cannot, in so many instances. Whitey Republicans want their way, especially in Georgia, to make sure that the two Democratic senators are defeated next time, either legitimately, or if necessary, by hook or by crook. Like I said, so many POS state Republican legislators…
