I follow the Auschwitz Memorial on Twitter, and retweet them every day. Some days, the photos accompanying their tweets are just devastating. This is one of those times.

I can’t look at this without crying, and I can’t stop looking at it.

I look at the Auschwitz Memorial every day.

I also look at the We Are the Dead Twitter site each day.

  2. Ronald O'Dowd says:

There are no letters in the alphabet nor words capable of describing how tragic and inhumane The Holocaust was. Unfortunately, so many of us have hearts that have hardened a bit too much. Ideally, all of us should be crying but unfortunately some of us can’t get there as much as we would hope and like to. Hopefully, one day I’ll somehow return to the true state of humanity that you exhibit.

I agree with Mr. O’Dowd, although I can weep.

My empathy and compassion gets quickly over run as I become blood thirsty to avenge these poor little children.

    • Pipes,

It’s a bit akin to the debate during H.W. Bush’s time as to whether the reunification of Germany should be allowed. At that time, I was resolutely opposed, to put it mildly, but in a world of realpolitik, it’s good that it got done as it allowed the East to buffer away from the then Soviet orbit.

    Phil,

What you say is true but the lives of the many outweigh the lives of the few. That’s the sad reality. Are we to lose another 5 million people? It’s inhumanely all about gradation and justifiably so.

Sure, no question I could theoretically take an ASA tablet and drop dead. Does that mean we necessarily ban ASA?

In a COVID-19 world, we all quite literally have to suck it up and hope for the best. It’s not about absolutely saving the few. Rather, it’s all about not letting the many die. Cold and calculated to be sure but necessarily so. And now we necessarily have another pressing reason to further tweak the vaccines.
