Carney, strong launch out of the gate.
Looks like a pro in Question Period.
Less and less, the PM will be able to play the Trump card.
Folks just can’t take the POTUS and his threats seriously any more.
And so now, for the Carney government, it’s back to matters that preoccupy Canadians like affordability and crime.
Not areas of strength for the current federal Liberals.
Good thing they’re taking the summer off.
Because the fall session is going to be bruising.
It can’t be all Carney, all the time.
Others will need to shoulder the burden.
Carney’s problem: he doesn’t have anyone else.
This may go down as the weakest cabinet of any newly elected government in the history of this country.
Ah yes: a fresh mandate with leftovers.
A very long next four years
Here’s why a largely bereft of talent Carney will win a majority in the next election: his name is not Poilièvre, a person who has already been thoroughly repudiated by a majority of voters nationally and in his riding. Translation: a snap election happens sooner rather than later. We lose our gains in Ontario because Pierre and especially Byrne are still in the picture, and then Carney gets a comfortable majority, even with a bunch of duds predominating in cabinet. We get to be LOSERS while the Liberals once again get to have a good laugh. We should be used to it by now. Thanks, Pierre.
The Conservatives’ quandary: they don’t have a Poilièvre replacement, who will sway voters away from Carney.
Plus, unless it’s a coronation, leadership races have a way of going off the rails, and making a party divisive and totally unattractive.
And so the Conservatives are stuck with Poilièvre.
Here’s what the Conservatives need to do:
1. Hammer the Liberals on social media. This much I’ll say about the Conservatives. They’re strong and effective on social media.
2. Fire Byrne. Start breaking bread with Ontario PC strategists. Turn the page from the last election, fast.
3. Less Poilièvre, meaning we see the guy again after Labour Day, and not before.
4. Start promoting the strong members of the Conservative caucus. Ourr team is better than their team.
5. Change the tone. Kinder. Gentler. Ditch the anger. And be very pro Canada. Take a page out of Chretien’s playbook: I love this country, and here’s why
1. Absolutely;
2. Only the clueless leader thinks otherwise. And break bread and HAVE THE BACK of every single PC party in Canada instead of preemptively stabbing them in the back like you know who did;
3. He thinks he’s the party and insists on taking center stage always, and that’s precisely what his ego intends to do. What he thinks about Byrne is living proof of that;
4. I’ll believe that when I see him doing it;
5. He can’t change his basic personality. That’s why most voters in Canada recoil every time they see this guy on television. We really lost because of who this guy is. Most people can’t stand the sight of him, especially in my province.

Douglas,
You’re a fine political strategist.
