Carney is very good at policy. Most recent example is his legislation on methane emissions, and he did this, increasing the burdon on Smith and the energy sector, when the ink has only just dried on the oil pipeline MOU. The beneficiary of increasing the cost of home heating nat gas (methane) is the Brookfield subsidiary that sells heat pumps. Funny how that works…
As a western Canadian, I am tired of the never ending Liberal, Conservative, Bloc, ND, Green sh*t show in Ottawa. This is why I say Vive L’Alberta Libre
Thanks Warren for your unceasing efforts to fight anti-semitism. I just listened to an interview with Jesse Brown conducted by Terry Newman about anti-semitism here in Canada, and it is both frightening and depressing. We need to wake up. In any case, please accept my sincere wishes to you and yours for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
If you’re charged under Terrorism statutes, those same laws should not allow judges the discretion to let these suspects out on bail. Another fine example of sloppy, reckless, Liberal government legislation. The incompetence is spellbounding.
FOUR floor crossers with another one aborted by Scheer? If Carney gets with the last two before the leadership review vote, then Pierre is done. Under such a scenario, his vote in January collapses and would likely be below 66% (Clark) threshold and if that happens, PP is done.
One of my brothers who never votes, went out of his way to vote Liberal because he couldn’t stand Pierre. He said yesterday at a family gathering that if PP is still leading the CPC come the next election that he will once again go out of his way to vote Liberal. No kidding. He likes Carney much more than I do.
Yup, did that in 2015. I quite a while ago already had my fill of Harper, like at least a plurality of fellow Canadians. I predicted that Trudeau would win and he did. One of my better predictions.
It was going great until SNC-Lavalin and then rapidly went downhill so much so that I left the party and returned to the Conservatives. Now I know how Churchill felt. But I’m no Churchill. More of a Chamberlain, you know, the guy who declared war on Nazi Germany.
Interesting. 2015 was the only time I voted Conservative.
I developed a slow admiration for Harper and wanted to vote for him just once. I could never vote for Justin. I saw from the get go he was taking the Liberal Party to weird places and I didn’t want any part of it
You know my bias but I can honestly say that for whatever reason, they like Mark better than Pierre. I think the whole election boils down to that. But I could be wrong. I don’t say that enough.
I just finished working on Rodriguez. If the Liberals get one more floor crosser, I will now turn my full attention to Poilièvre. Project Number Five, if anyone is counting.
Define “doing well”. I’ll wait. He has passed one bill. He literally ran on getting a deal with T by the end of July and where is that at? Sure, he has signed the equivalent of a bunch of letters of intent but if you actually worked out here in the real world, you would not be fooled by these plans to maybe do something somewhere down the road. In the meantime, my best advice is to buy Brookfield and roll with it! Elbows up!
I tune in for the politics but also for the music. Our host regularly turns me on to artists I would otherwise miss. An example of that this week was Jacuzzi Boys. Just for the record, the track was a cross between Neil Young’s Rockin’ In The Free World and Camper Van Beethoven’s Take The Skinheads Bowling. While down that rabbit hole, I found this which I must go through:
But it is not always new music. When I thought of Suzi Quatro, I really only thought of Stumblin’ In(a Yacht Rock staple). I had no idea she had so much good stuff. Her cover of Cockney Rebel’s Make Me Smile especially:
Same. I’m not a punk guy by any measure, but Kinsellacast music is starting to grow on me. When I hear stuff that sounds like punk on the radio, I’m turning it up these days
Yes, Carney reversed the capital gains changes but I have seen no appointments to the civil service yet that it will prevent that kind of screw up again. Or TOSI, UHT, bare trusts, etc. etc.
I can speak to Caryma Sa’d’s comment on the corporate speak. I have to put up with it all the time. It is nonsensical bafflegab.
Yes, there have been almost 300 floor crossings but how many of them handed a party a majority. Suddenly, the voters are always right has been thrown out the window. I am sure if that ever happened, the usual suspects would have told us about it. So, I am going with none. Ma is a laughingstock and a liar. Who in his riding did he speak to and he wants us to believe he made up his mind after the Secret Santa gift exchange at the Tory party. Sure, thing. Not to mention, he thinks that is better? And I STILL can’t find what he did before he got elected.
I got a Christmas lump of coal in my stocking when it finally dawned on me that CluelessCarneyTM wants to have his cake and eat it too: he wants those two more CPC floor crossers that Warren alluded to but he also WANTS Pierre to win the leadership review vote decisively. He knows that will get the Liberals another eight years in power. Like I said, a lump of coal. If ours was any other leader, I would bust my ass strategically-speaking to counter this. But with Pierre, nah, no thanks. At least Pierre has the quiet consolation of knowing even though he will never be PM that at least he came up with a super nice Christmas and Holiday card. Better than nothing, I suppose.

That is literally the plan. Buy Brookfield.

To paraphrase Jabba the Hutt…. Caryma Sa’d is my kind of trouble maker…. Fearless and inventive.
And to further Jabba the Huts wisdom with Spasteelya du conta Boonta. Ya kun boska bolia
Never have understood the Star Wars concept.
Warren,
If you’re charged under Terrorism statutes, those same laws should not allow judges the discretion to let these suspects out on bail. Another fine example of sloppy, reckless, Liberal government legislation. The incompetence is spellbounding.
Warren,
This time, I agree with Brian.
Warren,

Kind of like voting for Trudeau instead of Harper but, sure.
Martin,
Yup, did that in 2015. I quite a while ago already had my fill of Harper, like at least a plurality of fellow Canadians. I predicted that Trudeau would win and he did. One of my better predictions.
And how did that work out?
Martin,
It was going great until SNC-Lavalin and then rapidly went downhill so much so that I left the party and returned to the Conservatives. Now I know how Churchill felt. But I’m no Churchill. More of a Chamberlain, you know, the guy who declared war on Nazi Germany.

Of the four of us, two like Carney and two don’t. None of us like PP. So there you go, Canada.
What do they see in Mark Carney?
Gilbert,
You know my bias but I can honestly say that for whatever reason, they like Mark better than Pierre. I think the whole election boils down to that. But I could be wrong. I don’t say that enough.

Warren,
Ben’s intution is bang on: guess where A & W is building a new location? Boul. de l’Ormière in Quebec City.
Warren,
Parties need to pledge to change The Canada Elections Act to FORCE byelections under such circumstances. But none of them will make that pledge.
Warren,
Happy Holidays to you and yours and to all readers here.
Carney is doing well as a neophyte politician – seems seasoned, maybe from all those years steering central banks. He’s what Canada needs right now.
Define “doing well”. I’ll wait. He has passed one bill. He literally ran on getting a deal with T by the end of July and where is that at? Martin,
To say that I’m impressed with Brookfield’s captive would be to lie my ass off. LOL.
But he gets an easy pass for the general incompetence of most Liberal governments because most voters can’t stand to hate guess who?
Poilievre is a spitting image of Danielle Smith in Alberta – so if that’s the kind of nonsense you’re into then he’s your guy –
Curious is not a fan of Pierre. Who knew?

I see Brian took Ford’s advice to heart and did his vacay in the US. At least one leftie California resident is not a fan of Newsom:

If Carney gets a couple of more floor crossers, the power will lie with disgruntled MPs on the left.
This is an interesting take:

Be careful of what you wish for.
