Usual music commentary. You buried the lede with the Lantern track. Band is actually PARKiNG. Great tune. Nice find. Channels The Call. Tell me I’m wrong:

WISP with a period-also great. Nice find. Good call on the Interpol vibe. Wisp without a period also great. Shoegaze stuff.

Pretty sure you didn’t play the Sea Lemon’s track. Assume it is this with the Death Cab For Cutie/Postal Service dude:

Daniel Romano track great. Have some stuff by him but this is different. Channels Pleasant Valley Sunday by the Monkees.

I am not quite done yet but have compiled a playlist of the music by the artists referred to just in the podcast in the interview with Daniel Rachel(at least what I listen to). This one should likely be at the top:

  2. Warren,

97%. All the dead stiffs in the USSR leadership would be so proud.

  3. Warren,

Yup, the fix is in and then some. They dutifully massaged and masturbated the carefully curated delegates in order to snuff out as many fifth-columnists as possible. They did a good job. So…Pierre will win the battle but lose the war. Jeez, five election losses in a row. Makes me so proud to be a Conservative. And then he’ll give us the usual nonsense about a “moral” victory and his firm intent to stay on. Uh-huh. NO, I don’t think so.

  4. Warren,

As usual, the clueless and fanciful EDAs are trying to take Canada back to the Dark Ages. Fools. The fun part will be to see if Pierre has the guts to tell them to fuck off, like Harper did. I won’t be holding my breath. He’ll do it on abortion for sure, or he’ll end up sleeping serially on the couch but on the other things? Don’t think so. He agrees with them on a lot of that other garbage. Signed, “Liberal-lite Conservative.”

  5. Warren,

What a gigantic day in Quebec politics. Legault is resigning. That changes the entire political dynamic: before, the Liberals had a one-in-three chance of winning that election, but after Legault’s resignation, that now becomes one in five. The new ballgame is now about who gets to form the official opposition. With Legault gone, the CAQ has a far better chance than we do to form the opposition. The CAQ is both autonomist and nationalist, while the PLQ isn’t generally perceived by francophones as nationalist. My best guess is that we come in third in that election. That’s why Liberals of every stripe must rally now behind Milliard in hopes of increasing our chances of at least forming the opposition after the next election. One hell of a game changer.

  6. Warren,

Carney has gone up in my estimation with the China deal, especially given that he listened to the advice of one particular political strategist. LOL. Chinese vehicles are a net plus for automobile and SUV buyers, and best of all, they’re going to piss off the POS like nobody’s business. Please God, give him a stroke.

As for the so-called North American car makers, the more you move production, the less you should receive in incentives from both levels of government. They, like president dickhead, have to learn a hard economic lesson. Carney finally proved that he can operate in the big leagues. I thought he didn’t have that in him. I was wrong.

That is one view Ronald. What do we think of the other Carney?

“TORONTO, April 18 (Reuters) – Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney said that China is one of the largest threats with respect to foreign interference in Canada and is an emerging threat in the Arctic.
In a debate Thursday night ahead of the April 28 election, Carney replied “China,” when asked to name Canada’s biggest security threat.”

Funniest line I saw on The Twitter yesterday. When it was pointed out that Canadians can stay in China visa-free for up to 30 days through 2026, someone said that there was no mention about letting them LEAVE. Fair point.

Oh and this “agreement” is the equivalent of a LOI and all the lawyers that visit this site no what they are worth but I digress.

      • Martin,

Well, no one can argue credibly that Russia is a military match for the United States. Putin can sabre-rattle as much as he wants, even menacing the West with potential use of nuclear weapons but that is nothing more than bullshit. American subs can wipe Russia off the face of the Earth and Putin knows it.

China, on the otherhand is an emerging military power and geopolitical rival of the United States. She is indeed the largest potential threat to our individual and collective national security but relations are manageable rather than outrightly hostile. We can discuss Taiwan, Tibet, Inner Mongolia, etc. but thus far, China has not invaded her neighbours in recent decades.

The Chinese foreign intelligence threat is considerable and growing. But IMHO, it at least can be contained. Chinese nationals abroad and dual citizens need to be especially aware of this and adjust their conduct accordingly. Our intelligence agencies can only do so much to shield them from China’s geopolitical and national security objectives. In short, the West can’t throw the baby out with the bath water. We need to remain ever vigilant and proactive rather than solely reactive in intelligence and political matters.
