Ann Coulter: Jews, perfect yourself

I haven’t been much interested in getting involved in the predictable debate about this bilious harridan because, well, it’s all so predictable. (Threatening her with the Criminal Code, as a University of Ottawa appartatchik did, is really dumb, by the way.  It diminishes the legal significance of real expressions of hate, things like promoting genocide.)

Anyway. I’ve noticed a few commentators – many Jewish – who have defended her, her rights, blah blah blah. In my opinion, these commentators should eyeball this YouTube clip, below; it’s quite revealing. As I tell my Jewish friends all the time: evangelical types don’t profess to support Israel, and Jews, because they respect your beliefs. They do those things because they want to get close enough to you to convert you to Christianity.  It’s Scripturally-ordained, even.

“…evangelical types don’t profess to support Israel, and Jews, because they respect your beliefs. They do those things because they want to get close enough to you to convert you to Christianity.’

And because they think you might somehow play a role in the End Days.

As the byline on the bottom of the screen says, “Being extreme makes millions.” I’m not sure that Ann herself believes a lot of her b.s. (same with Rush Limbaugh, etc), but being in-your-face and extreme is what gets her in the news, and thereby in the money.

Sadly, this same thing can be said at both ends of the spectrum. Rev. Al Sharpton is a moron, and is only famous because of the outrageous things he says. Does he truly believe all the crap that comes out of his mouth? Who knows, and who cares? He makes a living by being extreme.

Maybe he and Ann should hook up.

“Threatening her with the Criminal Code, as a University of Ottawa appartatchik did, is really dumb, by the way.”

He didn’t threaten her. He provided her with some helpful advice.

“It diminishes the legal significance of real expressions of hate, things like promoting genocide.”

Which I’m pretty sure Ann Coulter herself has promoted. Or come very close to it.

  4. SUZANNE says:

Ann Coulter is stating Christian theology 101: The Christian Covenant is a perfection of the Mosaic Covenant.

In your utopia, wouldn’t everyone agree with you?

  5. Rotterdam says:

My neighbor feels I should convert to Islam.
My Uncle feels I should become a Jehovah’s witness.

I like them both. Its what they believe.

If I was offended, that would be offensive.

    • Libra says:

Unfortunately, it’s not a question of Ann Coulter feeling that Muslims should convert, it’s that she is openly advocating war and murder (i.e., genocide) to ensure that all Muslims are indeed converted.

Famous Coulter quote: “”We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity.”

This is incitement to genocide, a punishable offence under the UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.

FYI, Article 2 of that convention: In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such: (a) Killing members of the group; (b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; (c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; (d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; (e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.

Article 3:The following acts shall be punishable: (a) Genocide; (b) Conspiracy to commit genocide; (c) Direct and public incitement to commit genocide;(d) Attempt to commit genocide; (e) Complicity in genocide.

It sad that these arguments still exist.

If each religion had accepted the new word as law there would not be this petty game that only seeks to hurt others as opposed to educate and uplift.

  7. Brian says:

I’m astounded that the U of O was careless and stupid enough to give Coulter and her little Levant the easy martyrdom they were hoping for. It’s almost as if Coulter scripted the University’s comments herself. If she’d spewed the usual rhetoric and left without a word from the University, millions would never had noticed.

  8. I’d love to know how many Canadian cabinet ministers agree with Coulter.

    • wes werkman says:

And why would that be, Jason? So you could use their religious views against them for political gain?

    • Rotterdam says:

If they did, so what. Its a religious view. Most religions by their very nature are exclusive.
That includes the faith of 17 year old Islamic student who asked Ann a question last night.

The irony is that nation’s with a Judeo-Christian tradition have the most religious freedom.

      That includes Israel.

  9. Gus says:

I question why the government prevented George Galloway from entering the country, but allowed Coulter in no problem? I’m all for free speech (even Coulter’s) so long as it’s applied equally.

    • Winston Higgs says:

As much as it makes my skin crawl to have that venomous strumpet in our country, her only crime is bad taste (and maybe bad fashion sense…saw the pix at BCL) unlike Mr. Galloway who openly admits to giving $$$ to a group who would like to obliterate Israel…which is, in fact, a crime in our country. But give her time, she has a few days left and she just might forget to turn on the filter before one of her diatribes.

  10. Rotterdam says:

Coulter is the Al Franken of the right. They both use irreverent humour to make a point.
The irony is that the institutions of “free speech” feel threatened by her but never from anyone on the left.

They want to run to the government for protection like a bunch of wusses.

    • Johnny Tuna says:

That is an absurd comparison. Al Frankin is incredibly intelligent and does not engage in outright lies and distortion to make his point. As he so ably demonstrated through (aghast!) research and (Oh my goodness!) examples and sources, in his book Lies and the lying Liars … Coulter is a liar. Frankin uses irreverent humour. Coulter uses hate and snarky extremism to make her point. Not everybody should be allowed to give speeches at universities about their opinions if their opinions are based on lies and distortions. Should the Grand Dragon of the KKK be invited to give a talk on his opinions about blacks in society? I say no. How does racist hate add to the public discourse? It only poisons the public discourse. Extremism should be neither courted nor given the benefit of a publicly subsidized speaking venue. It has plenty of room on the internet for expression. Unfortunately for you and the hard right, as Stephen Colbert has noted, reality has a well known liberal bias.

  11. Dr.Dawg says:

    Warren:

Provost Houle had every right to be worried. Coulter has promoted genocide in the past:

  12. Eugene Parks says:

We have a fast track to being prefect Jews which is better than you – Ann Coulter

Ann, Love your neighbour – Jesus; Don’t think you are better than others – St. Paul.

  13. Derek Lipman says:

The real issue should be why this contemptuous fool is granted a mouthpiece on TV, radio, and at public events. For example, what does an institution like the University of Western Ontario gain by having Coulter turn up and spew her virtriol? It just cultivates more division, and leaves a bad taste in the mouths of fair-minded students.

Coulter and her pals had it their way when the Republican Renaissance replayed the failed Reagan years and they succeeded in dragging the United States deeper in debt, putting it into more quagmires, dividing the country socially, and creating a massive gap between rich and poor.

Well now it is their time to sit on the sidelines and suck it up. If this sounds vindictive, then good. These virulent extremists should be archived, as they espouse policies that destroy the lives of millions of Americans. In 1964, Coulter’s ideological forefathers were considered looneys in American politics and couldn’t compete with the children of the New Deal. Mr. Obama should steamroll over them for the next few years.

    Steve T:

Your comparison of Ann Coulter and Al Sharpton is egregious. One is a civil rights leader who seeks to ameliorate the lot of millions, while the other is a freakshow who has done nothing good for humanity. But hey, if her red meat garbage satisfies your latent hatred of “the left” then by all means, buy her counterfactual books. She’ll be the one sniggering over a glass of chardonay knowing that there are actually people out there willing to buy her tripe.

    • Rotterdam says:

“Al Sharpton….One is a civil rights leader who seeks to ameliorate the lot of millions”

I suggest you verse yourself with the Tawana Brawley incident.

“what does an institution like the University of Western Ontario gain by having Coulter ”

Maybe another view, a free exchange of ideas perhaps?

Or is this too much freedom for an academic institution to handle.

  14. Nasty Bob says:

St Peter: Umm sorry Mahatma – that Hindu stuff is really freaky and yes, although you probably came closer to living the ideal Christian life than anyone since He walked the land your not perfected- can’t let you through the gate.

  15. Nasty Bob says:

    err… you’re not perfected

  16. Joel Coates says:

Jeezuz Murphy! Ann knows exactly what she is doing and what buttons to press to get $$$’s of free publicity.

Anyone who can get the leftie academics drooling and squealing has my approval and admiration.

Campus newspapers and Students Unions have always been dominated by assorted Marxists and their running dogs.

As for Al Sharpton: He’s nothing but a conman who got his reputation over the phony Twana Brown scandal.

  17. Riff says:

Thanks Warren for your take on Ann Coulter’s foray north of the 49th. She will be idolized in Calgary and will go home believing Western Canadian Conservatives have become Perfected Republicans.
She is secretly in love with Stephen Harper, the northern darling of the American Conservative Movement, but can’t make a move on him just yet!

  18. parnel says:

Interesting that the Tories have tried to paint the libs as anti American while a rabid dog American conservative is running amok here.

  19. Dave says:

and you know who spoke before her at Western, don’t you?

    Your good friend Ezra Levant.

  20. D. says:

It is unfair to criticize someone for what they might say based on what they have said before. Sure has been offensive in the resent past – but let her speak, especially at a place of higher learning.

If what she puts forth is moronic or offensive, once she’s said her piece….

Then hang her racist, WASP, non-Jew, dye-job ass in the town square!

OR, maybe, we could concern ourselves with things of greater import?

    D 🙂

    • Riff says:

I agree, an ‘idiot savant of her ilk should be ignored!

But she knows what hot buttons to press and gets the kind of emotional response that allows her to gain notoriety and millions of dollars in fees.

Alas, our slavish, lazy media types salivate at the thought of having her on their shows – CTV this afternoon for example.

Where are the liberals who are capable stand up to her nonsense and make the case for genuine liberal thought?

      • D. says:

Right you are. We should ignore it and pay attention to more important issues, but as far as food for fodder – it don’t get no better.

  21. Elizabeth says:

Alan Derschowitz doesn’t believe that hate speech should be suppressed, he says let the idiots speak – if they’re suppressed, they only go underground and it gets worse. Better to have them out in the open, and people can make up their own minds – and I tend to agree with him. She’ll be good for entertainment. People need to be able to contrast her against what we have in our own culture, which is why we need to develop our own political system, culture – get people more involved.

But, I agree with Warren, that Jews should definitely pay attention. I think any Jew who thinks it’s okay to become buddies with Evangelists, are delusional – they should not trust them. Their whole focus is on their perfection, they really believe they’re superior to others, and they also believe that as long as they’re doing The Lord’s work, anything is forgiveable.
I worked for Jews in Montreal, wonderful bosses, taught me all about the history of Jews in Montreal, and who would no more become involved with Evangelists than they’d fly to the moon. Now – I know one here – has even gone through baptism, and she pestered me for years to go through a baptism of some sort – while she kept up her Judaic observances. . she supports Harper, Bush, is suspicious of Obama, very suspicious of Ignatieff; I just don’t get it. It’s because of this Republican agenda that’s appeared in Alberta, and I really don’t like it.

Coulter is a court Fool; but she’s a barometer of how far the message is being accepted. I wish the interviewer had let her go on talking, and not interrupted her. There you go — let her speak. It is better that we know where they are and what they’re doing than to shut them up.

  22. Elizabeth says:

I’m also old enough to have seen the newspaper photographs of the death camps, when I was 7 and we lived in England, where my father was in the Canadian Navy, posted with the Royal Navy for a few years — I’ll never, ever forget those photos.

  23. Rotterdam says:

A sad day for free speech tonight in Ottawa.
Same crowd that organized Israel Apartheid week.
Same crowd that shut Netanyahu in Concordia.
Same minds that shut down Daniel Pipes at York.

They hate Israel. They hate Coulter.

    They hate free debate.

Only their views have a right to be heard.
    Welcome to Canadian Campuses.

  24. D. says:

    RE: Recent news;
She should have been allowed to speak. There is a stark difference between a nit wit like her and some fuck like Ernst Zündel. There is obviously no value to what she has said in the past, and based on that; likely nothing to be gained listening to her now, or in the future. But we live in a Country that allows idiots to speak freely unless they purport a wanting to zealously spread hatred or prejudice, etc.
We normally allow the ‘Coulter’s’ of the world to do it here publicly. Some of our home grown ‘Coulter’s’… we’ve even elected.

Best thing about Canada? We don’t really need legislation to insure opinion is not for sale, and usually non-negotiable.

    D.
