Iggy Pop Is God

James Jewel Osterberg – Iggy Pop, Iggy Stooge, the Risen Rock’n’Roll Messiah, age 60+ – played with his Stooges in front of TWENTY THOUSAND PEOPLE in Dundas Square in Toronto tonight. It was extraordinary.

Even more extraordinary, something that made it a rock’n’roll event for the ages: hearing 20,000 sing ‘Now I Wanna Be Your Dog.’ And knowing all the words.

Lord, take me home now. It won’t ever get better than this.

I feel sory for you Warren. Obviously you were not exposed to the great music of the 60’s when you were forming your musical tastes.

    • Warren says:

I was! Was into old Kinks/Stones/Beatles before Johnny Rotten got a hold of me!

      • Paul R. Martin says:

Not Dylan, the Animals or the Doors? There was also a lot of great lighter stuff in the 60’s. I am reminded of The Mommas and the Popas, Brasil 66, and Areta Franklin.

Are you implying that you are “rotten to the core”. I just had to use that phrase somehow.

Hmm… now that you mention it, maybe that’s just what the Doctor ordered to get the other namesake to beat his Blah Blah Blah image & beat the dough-boy at his own game w. a little self-deprecating humour:

get him to strip down to his waist (I bet he could pull it off: he looks in good shape, & they’re the same age) and karaoke to Iggy’s most popular (and atypical, discofied) crossover hit: “Real Wild Child”!

The lyrics are actually apropos: “Well I’m just outa school / Like I’m real real cool / Gotta dance like a fool / Got the message that I gotta be / A wild one / Ooh Yea! I’m a Wild One…”

Incredible show…from the opening blast of Raw Power to the No Fun singalong…the guitar sounded like a saw… and Mike Watt. Unreal.
