My daughter hates it; my youngest son, meanwhile, always sings along with me – especially at the part about being taken to Ohio in a swarm of bees. The National’s melody, meanwhile, wakes you up at night. Genius.

From the subtle underlying tension between the bassline and keyboards; through a poetic marriage of lyric and melody, alongside those few haunting bars sung acappella, this is a song that is made to be heard and not just seen. As a bass player, Warren, do you find this song has more of a melodic bass line than most other songs?
