Glib and Frail’s toy newspaper redesign

Me: Oh, look! It’s cute! It’s a starter paper!

Unidentified person in Starbucks line: The Canadian Tire flyer people called. They want their look back.

    That’s progress for ya!

The lead stories this morning were “How do I buy lingerie for my wife?” and “My boyfriend thinks sex toys make romantic gifts”.

Rick Salutin, arguably one of Canada’s most elequant published contrarians, and the only columnist who’s articles I actually looked forward to reading, was fired to make room for this schlock.
How do we fight back against the persistent dumbing-down of our society by media organisations ?

JStanton – Net’s the answer. You have to exercise good judgement I agree, but the diversity makes it worthwhile. One example. When polls come out you’ll notice certain organizations given their political bent often do not publish them. Singularly stupid in my opinion, given that they are readily available elsewhere. Same goes for some of the political ‘gamesmanship’ played by the spinners. The net has gone a long way towards making their jobs that much more difficult and increasingly so all the time.

Their on-line design changes so often, I think their developers are on too much Red Bull.

In my edition, the back page of the front section is an ad for Nfld is which the photo looks muddy and the sub-head is hard to read. I would have thought G+M would have wanted a beautiful landscape shot to show off the new printing technology to its fullest. The Hibernia rig shot looks flat.

Isn’t coated paper (which is what the shiny stuff is) less environmently friendly?
