W@AL: Team Bussin, lawbreakers?

Well, yes, they are.  Yet another reason to vote for Mary-Margaret McMahon!

The Municipal Election Act’s section 48(1), (2) and (3) say that you can’t, “directly or indirectly,” try and influence a voter at a polling place – that is, putting up one of your signs in the “immediate vicinity of a voting place.”

Sandra Bussin, and/or her team, dld that anyway. Add “lawbreaker” to their rap sheet!

(Sorry the “breaking news” soundtrack is so loud – this one was shot, edited and uploaded to the Interweeb all from iPhone 4.)

Good on you Warren! Just goes to show what the Bussin team will stoop to. They must be getting scared.

Dude is she desperate or what! Meanwhile wee Mary Margaret ( aka MMM ) was giving out M&M candy to grateful and receptive people at Woodbine and Coxwell Subway Station this morning at 7am. I got some, had a lot of red ones in the pack with that good old hard candy shell.

Weird too-it was a rainy and foggy and crappy Monday morning, and voters actually appeared excited and few were miserable. I was handing out material and not one person told me to “screw off”! Knocking Bussin off would be a great start to the week.

Seems to be a bit of a plague. According to http://twitpic.com/30tqd3, Ward 18 candidate Ana Bailao is also campaigning on polling station property.

Do prospective candidates get some sort of seminar at the beginning of the campaign to explain the rules to them? They should.

As far as I know, election signs are illegal on any public property but are perfectly legal on private property. If i happen to live directly across the street from a polling station and i choose to put a sign for a candidate on my front lawn – that is perfectly legal. A sign on public property is illegal no matter where it is – regardless of proximity to a polling station.

Having worked as a Deputy Returning Officer in two Federal, two Provincial, and one municipal election – I can tell you this is highly unacceptable.

I’ve dealt with idiot scrutineers, campaign workers, and candidates haunting polling stations. Give them an inch and they will take the proverbial kilometer. I’ve even seen them giving the Returning Officer for Calgary West guff. Do I have to say which sitting MP they worked for?

Working as a DRO is otherwise enjoyable work. I always seem to run into old friends from Junior and Senior High.

    It’s not even close.

And I don’t like optical ballots! They get counted too fast!

I don’t understand the negative vibes about this candidate, but I find it strange that the new Election Laws treat roadside billboards in the same manner as website banner ads: they are both permitted, as long as they were posted before the black-out period. Fair enough, no-one expects a 20′ x 20′ billboard beside the 401 to be removed over night, but a banner ad on a community newspaper where most people will be viewing their election days news???

‘on a community newspaper website’ that can be pulled down at the push of a button, he intended to type.
