An idiot then, now and for all time

We give you Cheryl Gallant.

She’s always been a loon. She is a loon now She always will be a loon.

Why is anyone surprised?

  1. JenS says:

I know she’s crazy. I kept telling myself that over and over again, like a mantra, as I read the story. It worked for a while. Then, I got to the part where she says C389 protects pedophiles, and the rage bubbled up. I just couldn’t make it stop.

The woman is a whack job.

  2. billg says:

I’ve done work for her during elections, and, I’m really hoping she does the whole mea culpa thing.
She’s a good MP, but, man, she says some god-aweful things sometimes.

  3. Brian says:

The only reason to say such an absurd thing is to imply that we can, or should, get by with less coast guard.

An odd comment, considering how our Northern Sovereignty Ambitions ™ depend on exactly the opposite.

(Over and above the obvious insensitivity to nautical and economic realities)

  4. AmandaM says:

Why do people in Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke keep electing these loudmouth wackaloons who do nothing productive and contribute nothing useful to public discourse?

  5. Nasty Bob says:

So people on the great lakes don’t count on the coast guard??

If there’s such a thing as karma then one day she’ll be caught red handed in a lesbian tryst with Michelle Bachmann ( R- Minnesota )

  6. Reid says:

Just like with vote paring, she’s cancelled out by Carolyn Bennett.

  7. Iris Mclean says:

Seven or eight years ago a friend and I were out for a sail on his thirty foot boat on the St. Lawrence river near Gananoque. There was a sudden and totally unexpected breach of the hull, and the water was coming in faster than we could pump it out. The engine was swamped and we were going down. We put out a mayday on the radio, and it took about half an hour for a Coast Guard Zodiac to arrive with a big gas powered pump. They stayed with us with the pump going full-tilt until we were safely towed into port. Needless to say, I’m a big fan of the Coast Guard. I guess we have to assume that Gallant spends no time on the water, and doesn’t give a rat’s ass about those who do.

  8. Cath says:

Yep, stupid thing to say for sure. I remember tangling with a Toronto school board trustee on the issue of saving the board’s swimming pools several years ago. When I mentioned that in my community we had no indoor pools and had to travel some distance for our kids to take swimming lessons the Toronto trustee countered with her perspective that kids in small rural communities could learn to swim in the lakes and rivers.

Looks like there’s an apology from Gallant today. Took too long IMO.

  9. Seana says:

    “She’s always been a loon.”
You have no idea! Before getting elected in 2000, she wrote a letter to the Editor of the Fredericton Daily Gleaner denouncing year-long maternity leave. She rambles on about eugenics – with year-long mat leave “every parent could give birth to a blue-eyed, square-jawed blond.”
She goes on to call maternity leave a “make-work project” for women! Furthermore, she calls mat leave a misappropriation of EI funds.
CRAZY! She needs to go now.

All quotes from Fredericton Daily Gleaner, October 28, 1999.

  10. wabbit1957 says:

I always thought that Mrs Gallants statement to the National Post back on Nov 21/2000 “”Are we going to go like lambs to the gas chamber as the Chretien’s Liberals strip away our rights?” was strange even for her. That statement was just so “out there” since it made you think of Adolf Hitler and who wants to think of that deranged lunatic? Now, it appears as per a comment above that Mrs Gallant also wrote the following comment to the Fredericton Gleaner newspaper that “every parent could give birth to a blue-eyed, square-jawed blond” Good Lord! That too was Adolf Hitler. He thought that people with blue eyes and blonde hair were perfect, and fit the ideals of his master ‘Aryan’ (perfect) race. Millions and millions of people were executed in the Holocaust because they did not fit Hitler’s ideals of this so called “Master Race” and we have a sitting MP in the Canadian House of Commons who likes to use Hitler’s doctrine when making statements and uses references to his favourite execution tool. Hello!!! Am I the only one thinking this should be sending out alarm bells? Mrs Gallant has said and done and a lot of embarrassing things over the years but approximately 46,998 Canadians did not return home from WW2 and for her to align herself with Adolf Hitler in any capacity is to betray the sacrifices of those heroic men. Shame on her again!

  11. Sherri says:

Seana said: She rambles on about eugenics – with year-long mat leave “every parent could give birth to a blue-eyed, square-jawed blond.”

WHAT? I don’t know what’s more unbelievable—that she actually said that, or that she keeps getting re-elected again and again and again…

  12. Alfred says:

Sad, very sad, and the really sad part is that we, the constituents must endure these rather dim comments and observations made into political fodder on a national basis. But Mrs. Gallant knows her voting base, old, right wingers, employees of crown corps and DND.
Local mayors in those areas pump as hard as they can to keep the gravy train coming, even with the occasional train wreck from Mrs. Gallant.
