Vince Carter, then and now

I’ll be at the game tonight, comme toujours, so I found Feschuk’s wonderfully-written column a great read.

Apart from the fact that Feschuk masterfully provides some insight into a great NBA enigma, it’s also evidence of my belief that sports writing is the funnest to do and read.

What was that? Did I see the words “Feschuk” and “masterfully” in the same sentence?

Granted, this is an excellent article, I sometimes wonder if Feschuk has ever touched a basketball……..but I guess that goes for most of the big basketball writers in town. They’re good writers, but their understanding of the nuts & bolts of the game often leaves me wanting.

What about the finer points of basketball is needed for the purposes of this analysis? He nailed it, unlike Carter.

The outcome of this game will change my life forever.

Yes, it’s interesting that political commentators sometimes switch channels and do sports. I suspect that its therapeutic. In his last years, the great Raul Duke published football critiques almost exclusively.

There are so many could-have, should-have, would-have moments for the Raptors. But sometimes I wonder mostly if Carter had been ALL-MAN instead of half-man half-amazing how things would-have been different.

[big bummer game tonight, though? …]
