Kick him to the curb

…and how a jerk like this got through candidate review is an utter mystery. The Cons attract creeps like these like flies to a bright light (as Preston Manning once admitted). But the Liberals?

What a disappointment.

  1. Eric says:

I agree. The comments are reprehensible. But his org is called ‘rights for whites’? How did that fact pass muster?

  2. bigcitylib says:

None of this stuff seems to have been buried any deeper than a few French language newspapers, and none of it predates the Internet. Very dumb that it took the NDP to find it first. Assuming of course they’ve got the right guy.

  3. MJH says:

All parties have these serious flaws from time to time. Parties should be careful about criticizing others because none are without sin.

  4. MontrealElite says:

If he did say it, yes turf him.

But didn’t hear Iggy blaming the staff for it.

  5. WesternGrit says:

Yup. Dump this creep now. No room for this type of trash in the party. Never has been… never will be.

    • Roger says:

lots of room under the big red tent I guess, eh?

      • Patrick Hamilton says:

This guy slipped through the cracks, obviously…..as opposed to Reform where many candidates have been picked from on high after being vetted for the right church affiliation, and of course swearing unswerving fealty to “Dear Leader” without any grassroots involvement at all, as former Manitoba Con MP Inky Mark , and the shafted would be Reform candidates in Okanagan-Coquilhalla can testify….in both ridings the fix was in long before any talk of nomination meetings….just another example of the Reformers hypocrisy…..

  6. David says:

I agree there is no place for this in ANY party.

  7. MontrealElite says:

O/T but the debate format’s been set.

Ignatieff gets Harpo for a total of 12 minutes. Use it wisely.

And the lecterns are back. Optic advantage Ignatieff.

    http://ht.ly/4uuFl

Hope Ignatieff challenges Harpo, face to face, for another one on one at the debate.

  8. Michael S says:

Done right it can illustrate the difference between Ignatieff and Harper.

  9. Don says:

No, apparently there is room in the Liberal party for racist candidates.

  10. Gord says:

I think it’s actually like MOTHS to a bright light. And flies to sh!t.

  11. Martin Cooke says:

Also makes you wonder what this guy thought he was going to accomplish by running for the libs.

  12. Mike London says:

I hate sounding conspiritorial, but sometimes I wonder if the Tories plant these people, and then their background comes out in the campaign. Nobody who supports the Liberal party would have these views, because it runs contrary to everything the party stands for. It just doesn’t make sense at all.

    • Ted (not the other one) says:

Mike, if you hate sounding conspiratorial, than don’t. Seriously, it sounds just as silly as when conservatives accuse their centrist defectors as being liberal plants. It happens. The wrong people sometimes make it as candidates. Hopefully, for everyone’s sake, these racist types get exposed before they get elected. They have no place in any federal party.

    • paul b says:

Lets get real here. The democrats in the us were the party of the kkk.
For the libs, lets not forget this guy…

  13. JenS says:

At least Ignatieff made the right move immediately in ordering investigation and saying if the reports were accurate, the individual would no longer be a candidate.

It’s in stark contrast to how Jack handled a similar situation — only the person involved was a misogynist, not necessarily a bigot — last time around in my riding: http://durhamregion.com/article/109813

  14. nic coivert says:

Ignatieff reacted well and did the right thing. NDP really tried to broadside him with it.

  15. Dude Love says:

Being an idiot or trash is not limited to a specific party.

  16. There is no room for creeps like that in ANY party.

  17. Roger says:

Iggy signed 308 pieces of paper…one of them is this guy’s…….makes one wonder about the other 307

    • Your headband is on too tight.

      • Roger says:

Yes Cameron…that MUST be it…and here I was thinking this is a serious issue…

        • No – on that point you’re absolutely right, but you didn’t say that did you?

In your original post are you not saying that there’s something wrong with either all of Iggy’s decisions and/or all the other Liberal candidates? If so, what proof are you proposing?

By all means, correct me if I’m wrong.

          • Roger says:

I simply asked how one would know of the character of the other candidates, assuming the same vetting procedure was used that accepted the guy in question…and you snorted back with something about a headband being too tight.

          • Roger – let’s not let politics get in the way of trying to eradicate racism when it rears its head. I don’t think all Cons are evil and I’d hope you’d see the same in others.

I think its actually one of the few issues that can unite Libs/Cons/NDPers.

I take issue with extending the notion that one can paint the entire party with the same brush. I am confident Iggy will deal with it quickly and appropriately.

          • Charles does not surf says:

Couldn’t you say the exact same thing about Harper? Is this one of those “but but but… the Liberals did it too!”

    • And you know all about the character of every single Conservative candidate… exactly how?

Man, the quality of Conservative trolling is really dropping.

    • George says:

I heard that the Liberals are not running candidates in all 308 ridings. Is that not the case any longer?

      • The Doctor says:

I thought the CPC had also blown up with one candidate in the BC Lower Mainland.

      • Namesake says:

as I note in the other thread you rumour monger about this on, they’ve got 96% of their candidates listed, to date, at
        http://www.liberal.ca/candidates/

…and there’s still a few more days until the nominations close (which is the coming Monday, 21 days from E-day).

If by “lots” you mean 13, as of yesterday (including the newly vacated one), then, yes; and nominations have to be filed by E-day minus 21 days, so: Monday, April 11. And, given that nearly 75% of your riding vote CPC, I’m not surprised that they’re having trouble even finding a non-skeleton-ridden Liberal there, much less one who wants to be a lamb to the slaughter & lose income & years of sticky relations by putting their name forward.

  18. Paul R Martin says:

Obviously he has to be dumped. Unfortunately, every party attracts a few idiots and some of them slip through their vetting. I do wonder if the other parties will use this incident in their advertising?

  19. V. Malaise says:

I guess this is what “a big tent” means. 🙂

    Breaking News!

    http://www.cbc.ca/gfx/images/news/photos/2009/02/05/harper-cp-6202508.jpg

Harper better be careful. If his staffer see this pic of him with Ignatieff, he may get turfed from this own events!

  21. MontrealElite says:

    Dude has been dumped.

    Right thing to do Michael.

Nice that you didn’t fob it off on the staff.

    • Roger says:

He signed his nomination papers…the strong condemnation coming from Iggy now is due to the fact that someone else uncovered the truth….hard to believe nobody was aware of this Liberal candidate’s point of view.

      • MontrealElite says:

        Ignatieff took action.

        Harper does not.

        • Roger says:

He took action when he was caught….

          • Charles does not surf says:

And your point? Harper still just fires an underling, blames bureaucrats or flat-out lies.

          • James Bow says:

And Harper takes action almost never.

          • smelter rat says:

Yes Roger, unlike Harper who denies there is a problem and shirks his responsibilities.

          • Pomo says:

When who was “caught”? Sounds like you think Ignatieff tried to get away with something here… Seems to me that having something unacceptable brought to your attention – by the ndp or anyone else – that you then take swift action to correct is a far cry from being caught. Unless you think he actually wanted to sneak a white supremacist into parliament. Is that what you think? something in this process of vetting went wrong. That has been acknowledged. If you think Ignatieff was turning a blind eye to something like this, you might want to consider putting down the glue. I wouldn’t accuse Harper of courting white supremacist candidates or knowingly allowing them to run by turning a blind eye. Please don’t disabuse me of my naive notion that cons – by and large- are on the same side as the libs and dippers when it comes to these basic standards.

          • MontrealElite says:

            Harper was caught.

            And still did nothing.

            You’re a failure Roger.

  22. Roger says:

This is priceless…is it true that Mr. Forbes was nominated in 2009?…..nobody knew about any of his views for two years?

  23. conoisseur says:

La Presse just reported that the candidate in question was shown the door. Mike didn`t waste time, or blame some poor backroom aide, or say he didn`t know anything about anything. He took affirmative action.

Now everyone can relax, all is well in Québec once again!

    • Wayne says:

Except for the fact the libs are like 10% in Quebec. But other than that everything is hunky dory.

      • Namesake says:

Wayne lives in his own little world.

Today’s Ekos — with a 2 point smaller gap nationally than their last one (for 9, now), BTW — actually puts the Libs far ahead of the CPC and nearly tied with the Bloc
        http://urlm.in/hmbp

In fact, only one of these major pollsters sees the CPC ahead of the LPC in QC, and they all put the Libs a lot closer to 20 than to 10.

        Ekos, April 4-5, 2011
        19.4% CPC / 26.8% LPC / 17.7% NDP / 6.7% GR / 28.3% BQ

        Leger, March 30 -April 2 2011

        • Namesake says:

well, Nanos/SES was in ’06, sure, but Leger was in ’08 — as you might expect from one with TRIPLE Nanos’ sample size — when you compare each one’s most recent results on decided voters to the actual election’s popular vote:

Nanos didn’t get ANY of them right, and was only within 1 point for the… gasp! … NDP:

  24. Robert Jago says:

    But the Liberals?

Why so surprised? The Liberals ran a couple anti-native candidates in Quebec last election as well. They should have had their eyes open for them this time. Obviously they didnt, which says something about the EDA – some people who also have a lot of explaining to do. And it says that this may be a systemic problem. 2 elections 3 Quebec ridings …

That all said, good on Ignatieff for being far quicker to dump the candidates than Dion was.

  25. Alberta Liberal says:

This guy should definitely run as a Conservative the next election

  26. Wayne says:

“I think we’re in a very bad place when you’ve got a prime minister who does a background check on his audience, at a democratic crowd, and doesn’t seem to do a background check on the people he hires in the Prime Minister’s Office, like Mr. Carson.”
Michael Ignatieff, quoted in the Vancouver Sun

A day in politics can be a lifetime, eh Mikey?

    Looks good on him.

    • JS Rothwell says:

Yeah that’s the same as a 5 time convicted fraudster & picking on university students. Don’t you have some Charolais to tend Wayne?

    • Name-sake says:

Hey, if ‘busting in one’s heart’ was legitimate grounds to pre-emptively remove anyone who might secretly wish the bully boy ill, they’d have to vacate half the HOC & PPG and indeed many cities, when he was present.

But such private thought bubbles or even semi-public venting are still no reason to bring in the RCMP when they’re clearly JUST thoughts, and when the worst that might happen is that they might heckle; and the RCMP themselves have finally acknowledged this & said they won’t be thought-police bouncers any more:

      http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/canadavotes2011/story/2011/04/06/cv-election-rcmp-rallies.html

  27. Craig Chamberlain says:

Better to dump him now than to have this as a scandal for PM Ignatieff later.

Take it as another opportunity for Ignatieff to demonstrate Liberal values and an alternative style of leadership where someone other than the lowly staffers get canned.

  28. Steven says:

It’s noteworthy that Layton today tried to spin this in Quebec as evidence of the LPC harbouring racists.

Leave it to the NDP to be political whores when it suits them, even when it means undermining federalist parties in Quebec.

  29. Alberta Liberal says:

Ignorant? Hardly, as the article states, “the Cons attracts creeps like these like flies to a bright light” And similiar views like this guy’s still exist in the Reform/Conservative party, the only thing is, Harper tells them all to keep their traps shut, who’s kidding who? IMO

    • Alberta Liberal says:

You’re not calling Mr. Kinsella a liar are you? You don’t believe Stephen Harper controls what his candidates/MPs say? There’s ignorance and then there’s naivety, you must be both.

      http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/story/2008/09/26/harper-reax-richardson.html

Yeah, Mr. Harper as usual blamed the press, (quite different than the way Ignatieff handled his candidate) and oh yeah, Richardson is still an MP, because in Alberta you could have a Conservative candidate made up entirely of cardboard, he or she would still be elected.

Racism and bigotry are prevalent more in the Conservative/Reform party than any of the other parties. And if you think that’s a false statement, then you must be the one who’s ignorant.
