Question

After watching the debate lasy night, my eldest son (almost 13) wants to join the Young Liberals. Can he? How does he?

You need to be at least 14 to join up with the Young Liberals, though he can still go to meetings, volunteer, and all that. He should check out the Ontario Young Libs if he wants to know more. Simple: http://www.oyl.org/

How old do I have to be to join the Liberal Party of Canada?

You can become a member if you are 14 years of age or older, and even though you can’t vote in general elections, you can still participate actively in all facets of the Liberal organization, including voting for Liberal candidates and executive members. (Back to Top)

But get him involved in the local campaign, there is always a need for people to help out.
There a young liberal events that he might be able to take in too.

I can relate to being a young person reacting viscerally to what politicians say live on television.
I had a bunch of buddies over after school to see my new drum kit back in 1970. We were dreaming about starting a band. I was mesmerised by events being shown on the TV in our basement. Someone on TV said “Just watch me.” The memory stays with me to this day.

Warren are supposed to believe you don’t already know the answer to that question?

At 12 and 13 we still attended Young Liberal meetings. Back then the youth helped “paint” election signs. While he can’t be a full voting member, I’m certain no youth group would turn down his enthusiasm to be involved.

Others have mentioned it but 14 is the minimum age requirement http://www.liberal.ca/get-involved/membership-frequently-asked-questions/#structure

Same with the other parties (so I assume there is some sort of a law around it)
That being said, I would contact the Young Liberal riding in your area. http://www.ylc-jlc.ca/findclub_e.aspx

Always great to see youth be involved in the political process

I could be wrong…but WK may be insinuating that the LPC needs a fresh new start…with new faces..

    • Namesake says:

oh, he’s not so shy or diplomatic that he’d insinuate a criticism like that: he’d just make it outright, if that was an issue for him.

But apparently it’s escaped your notice that Harper abolished the Conservatives’ youth wing, altogether. (Can’t go having any dissent from either within or without, now, can we?)

      And the poor, lonely blog:

      http://canadianyoungconservatives.blogspot.com/

had exactly four posts: over five years ago!

      While there’s a couple dozen Young/Jeune Liblogs: http://www.liblogs.ca/youth.en.cgi

      Roger and out

  8. If he lived in my area I would not hesitate to sign him up. I am sure between you and I we could teach him a few tricks. i WOULD MAKE HIM AN HONORARY MEMBER UNTIL HE REACHES THE RIGHT AGE.

There’s still hope for me winning a bet I made with some high school friends many many years ago- “Someday KInsella will be P.M.” . Maybe I just got the wrong generation.
