God, I wish Duceppe was one of ours.

So Warren do you object to security at these events at all given that Harper is still our PM, or do you think that explanation is a lie and merits no consideration at all?
A London newstalk show this morning did mention that folks had been not allowed to enter some Liberal rallies too.
Where are you drawing the line?….or are you?

    • Namesake says:

uh-huh. And did — or would — that anonymous tipster of yours mention the reason for that alleged turning away: like maybe fire regulations about over-crowding? Because the Harper evictions have been reported by multiple reporters right on the scene, and the people involved have come forward, themselves.

This one — where there are also reporters right on the scene — not so much. Just this third-hand unverified report by a very Catty anonymous critic.

      • Cat says:

“On P&P came out that the PMO does NOT have anything to do with security clearances specifically so as there is no political interference, said Flannigan”.

    • james curran says:

So, were they ejected in London because they were Iggy friends or because they were a terrorist threat to the PM? Is that what you’re getting at here? I guess the media must be a threat too and that’s why they’re kept 40 feet away behind a barrier. You’re laughable.

    • tdotlib says:

The folks that couldn’t enter the Liberal rallies were actually overflow – the LPC didn’t book a big enough venue! There was no vetting by party affiliation.

Either way, ‘he did it too’ is hardly a proper defense of any behavior beyond the sandbox.

    • smelter rat says:

Oh well, if it was on a London talk show it muct be gospel. Troll much, Cat?

      • Cat says:

this is from one of the comments in the story on the CTV website—

        JTN in London
        said

Sorry people I was there and there were a couple of people yelling at the back and disturbing everyone with their comments. These people were asked to leave.Could have been the ones in the news.Don’t you think this whole thing is a little convenient. What crap.

    • JStanton says:

Mr. Harper was never “our” PM, although you might have considered him yours. Too few people ever voted for the Harper party, and his opinion-based policies were never those of the vast majority of Canadians.

Having earned the disgrace of being thrown out of government because of his contempt for Canadian parliamentary institutions, he’s now just another odd megalomaniac with pretensions.

  2. Patrick Hamilton says:

Moi aussi…..Duceppe’s the cleverest man in the HOC……too bad he got sidetracked with the seperation thingy…….

  3. Marc L says:

Scot, you love Duceppe? You`re kidding, right. You obviously don’t live in Quebec. Maybe we can submit you to all his rants in the francophone media about what a terrible, horrible place Canada is, how all you dastardly anglos want to wipe us out, how both Conservatives AND Liberals are only in it to crush Quebec. Yes, Conservatives AND Liberals.

    • The Doctor says:

I have never understood why so many people in English Canada, especially among political junkies, have such a man-crush on Duceppe. I think the guy’s a snake.

    • nic coivert says:

It is Harper that is driving more wedges of separatism than anyone else.

I think Canadians know who the real big bad wolf is. What Harper can’t control, he seeks to destroy.

  4. Cat says:

    http://www.lfpress.com/news/london/2011/04/05/17882106.html

“Concerns over security at recent London rallies weren’t confined to Tory events.

When Ignatieff was here last week, the RCMP got physical with two Free Press reporters, even elbowing a pregnant reporter in the stomach. Told she was pregnant, the male Mountie said: “That’s what you get for rushing a bodyguard.”

    • Rob W says:

      Hardly an equivalent situation.

    • Namesake says:

uh-huh. So, the RCMP detail assigned to protect the leader of the Opp during election appearances — which the leader of the Opp has no control over — pushed back some over-zealous people who rushed them. And they didn’t even report that, until a week later, even though they’re, um, reporters.

And that compares to the CPC screening, vetting, AND ejecting ordinary citizens who were acting entirely peaceably… how?

One was a security matter. The other: IN-security (“Oh no! They might heckle us.”)

MI has been running Open Mikes at townhalls all year, taking tough, unvetted questions from all comers, both reporters and real people, regardless of party affiliation.

PMS has been running FROM open mics, and only appears with carefully screened acolytes, and only takes 5 questions a day — and only during the campaign; otherwise, often, NONE AT ALL.

Closed government from a closed mind.

    • james curran says:

I bet they weren’t ejected from the premises though. I also bet they didn’t have to “register” to be there. And the only thing Iggy was guilty of there at the event was giving the folks access to his person without barriers to the point they may have been over-running the security detail.

    • Ted (not the other one) says:

I don’t know the true facts there, but if you rush a body guard, then yes, typically that is what happens. Or worse. I don’t condone it at all, and I’d go nuclear if that happened to my partner, but that’s what happens.

    • smelter rat says:

The students at the Harper rally had invitations and weren’t rushing anyone. Now I see your a channel changer as well as a troll.

  5. Dan says:

I know it’s early, but we may have a winner for the best quote of the campaign.
I’m sure it will make an appearence during the debates.

    • Lance says:

I dunno, Duceppe’s comment about the other parties wanting to get in bed with the Bloc, but not marry them was pretty good.

      • Harvey Martin says:

You’ve got to love/respect such an agile mind. He’s got some real zingers these days. The fact they are in English is an unexpected bonus.

  6. heather says:

According to Rosemary Barton, Ignatieff said the same thing earlier today: http://twitter.com/RosieBarton/status/55233085997977600

  7. Wes Ferris says:

Re the reporting screening/RCMP activity at Lib rallies . . .

Why is the Con war room not playing this up? This is precisely the sort of material they should be using to counter the Lib attacks on Con rallies. The Con war room needs to raise its game, ASAP.

  8. AmandaM says:

I could go swimming in Duceppe’s blue, blue ey…

Oh. Sorry. He’s hilarious and I’m on board with about 80% of his platform.

  9. well says:

The only differnt between Mr. Carson and Harper government is unluckily Mr. Carson got arrested and convicted and
Harper government are more smarter stil not get arrested yet to get convicted
I think Harper do not understand his party is not private is public job and all must come on the table or will come any way sooner or later
I think best job for future job for Hapre to find private job and private audience and private security guard after finish with PM! he is not public figure

    —- lol

Is RCMP boss changed to allow RCMP new boss now become Private body guard! for Harper government

if Harper government rcmp is too clever to know who audience are
then they must know who was Mr.Carson background was
they brought him in because they need few figure come in and do some under cover job then
who care they can fire him for job he did while he was work there not for job he did and pardon for it

  10. Ted (not the other one) says:

Geez, have you noticed the security at Tim Horton’s lately?

  11. dave says:

Would a Prime Minister’s security and staff on an election campaign trail be made up of Conserv Party paid people? Government paid people? A mix – like PPP?

  12. Mark in Ontario says:

This whole campaign is so boring I can hardly stand it. Bring on the Stanley Cup play-offs, Easter, the Royal Wedding. Anything to relieve the unrelenting tedium and banal trivia of this election campaign. If I see one more ad with Ignatieff and his pink lipstick I am going to lose it.
I’ll check back here on May 3.

    • Michael Bussiere says:

Hey, Iggy looks alive. I’ve seen appearances where Harper looked like a cadaver. He’s famous around Ottawa for requiring a ton of handling. Perhaps shallowness is the reason for all the make-up -helps him look like a warm-blooded mammal.

      • MCBellecourt says:

Iggy also says he’s having fun campaigning, and you know, I honestly think he is. He got his sea legs in those bus tours and seems quite relaxed and, well…happy!

As an offside, I really like the idea that he plans to do online forums if his party forms the government, with Ministers taking turns and himself once a month. He seemed to really enjoy doing those while doing his Open Mike sessions.

I’ve had the opportunity to communicate with provincial politicians one-on-one in the past, but never before have I been able to get into direct contact with a federal politician–until I participated in one of those online town halls–and I’ve been around for awhile.

As each day passes, the more I’m impressed with the Liberal Leader–and the more I feel he’s going to make one helluva Prime Minister.

  13. I’m disgusted,

REALLY!, What a bunch of phonies?

Would rather have Deceppe, than Harper, Just pathetic, and we are not even dealing with the extreme elements of left or right here…….are we ?

Warren we have had something for so long…….back when I lived in North Vancouver and blah blah, you lost.

On the very day this add was released?

    http://www.conservative.ca/press/news_releases/our_country

And Warren stop being a Liberal for five seconds and remember the guy that called your family when your dad passed for Christ sakes and post this.

  14. fritz says:

This business with now RCMP chief William Elliott doing the security screen for Bruce Carson will just about kill any campaign message the Tories planned to deliver tomorrow. Their war room won’t get much sleep tonight trying to deal with the mess as it unfolds over the next 24 hours.

  15. Tceh says:

The more things change the more they stay the same…Harper has no imagination so he borrows it from someone else.

  16. Dan F says:

Looks like the Harper thugs barred another non-partisan young voter from one of their events:
    http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/special/federal-election/national/student-says-environmental-activism-barred-her-from-harper-campaign-event-119294134.html

This time because she attended a climate change conference.

  17. Supernaut says:

New reader – love your blog. Every single day Harper’s message has been derailed, and I’d wager this must be taking a psychological toll, both personally (especially for someone so inflexible and accustomed to control), as well as on the campaign organization and the base. It also seems that the cycle between scandal-ette and message-derail is getting shorter. To wit, I hear Harper’s new “go positive” spot has been near-immediately pegged as a knock-off of a widely-ridiculed tea party ad. He’s looking unhappier, bitchier, smaller, and weaker at every turn, while Ignatieff is looking (dare I say it?) ever-more Prime Ministerial. I’m thinking the media and opposition smell blood, and soon, the electorate will too.

    • Craig Chamberlain says:

In a nut shell thus far…

It seems that Mr. Harper’s biggest issue with the Liberals is that he doesn’t expect them to win a majority.

  18. MontrealElite says:

Anyone else notice that when the LPC releases an ad on YouTube, you can comment on it.

When Harper does, comments are disabled.

Preventing free speech everywhere they appear.

  19. jenjen says:

So these guys screen the names of individuals who register to their events. This would involve screening hundreds of people at multiple rallies across the country electronically by matching their names and other personal information to other data sources. It is frankly ludicrous to believe that this would be done looking at individuals (one by one) looking through the facebook site as has been suggested by some media. (I work in the informatics field)

Facebook will sell information to companies as their site is in public domain.

What the media should examine is, when names and personal information were being collecting for these rallies, if it was specified on any of the forms how the tories would use the information for screening purposes and for other purposes after the rally. For example when businesses ask for personal information online or in written form they are legally required to ask consent from the individual if they plan on selling or giving the information to other organizations. Ethically it is considered best practice in the data marketing field that individuals providing information should be able to know what organizations will do with their information.

Another area of exploration is the comprehensive database that the Tories have created. By the sounds of this story it is much more sophisticated than that of the Liberals. Data lists are extremely popular in the business world and many businesses are willing to pay top dollar for the information in this data for direct marketing purposes. In this case marketers could get personal data lists of ‘conservative mineded’ individuals I guess and market products specifically at this crowd.

I am no lawyer but with temptations so high would the Tories sell any of this for financial purposes???? Moreover the people analyzing the data (doing the screening in this case) are they technically conservatives party officials or some kind of external marketing consultants?

Seems like a grey area to me.

  20. PoliticalPundit says:

Is there any footage of the two students being escorted by the CP bouncers from the CP Private London rally?

This would go viral on uTube and Facebook. Bring it all on.

There are pictures, on the Guelph newspaper, of the students at uGuelph, who were holding a peaceful rally to encourage all students to get off their butts and vote, being told to stop their protest and move on.

  21. Peterb says:

“God, I wish Duceppe was one of ours.”

Duceppe is one of yours – how do you think this election came about. Who do you think Ignatieff is counting on for 50 seats? You are sharper than that.
