The white elephant in Quebec is orange.

  2. James Bowie says:

“Us v Them” rhetoric, the sign of real leadership. I’m so glad to be rid of this loser.

  3. nic coivert says:

maybe they’d like rossi too, he does have quite a set of ivories.

  4. Mike London says:

I look forward to seeing him losing in E-L.

  5. Africon says:

Because of the humidity, most parts of Quebec are way colder than the prairies and far more unsuitable for an elephant that would have to be cooped up indoors for most of the year.

You’d think that all of those caring Quebec “progressives” would give a crap.

Best place to see elephants, in the wild, is Botswana – the most progressive country in Africa.

    • Ted says:

I hear what you say, but they’d die a pretty quick death in the wild. And being so old, they wouldn’t have a chance to adapt, learn to feed themselves, protect themselves, etc.

      • Africon says:

Agreed, Ted and so was not suggesting a return to the wild.
However, there are sanctuaries in California and I think in Texas that would be preferable to any zoo, imo.
Even Busch Gardens would be better….

  6. Liz J says:

Quebec voted for their own white Elephant, they painted it orange. It looks good on them too, their little scheme backfired because the ROC woke up. Let them cry in their vino, howl in the wilderness.

  7. Leon Brule says:

Being originally from Quebec, a person who fought for federalism in both referendums, I found Rocco Rossi’s comment to be insulting. It is not only destructive to nation building, it borders on, if not is, bigotry. He owes Quebeckers an apology.

    • Leon Brule says:

Would you care to expand on “massively unequitable deal that Quebec gets” or are you just spouting hyperbole? Oh, care to explain why ALBERTA insisted on the NOT WITHSTANDING clause?

    • Marc L says:

What do you mean by “unequitable deal” in Quebec’s favour exactly? The other have-not provinces have the same “deal” don’t they? Why are you singling out Quebec?

      • Marc L says:

This is the first time that I’ve seen Quebec singled out as the main beneficiary of supply management. You speak as if the objective of the CWB is to benefit Quebec. Or the NEP (of which Ontario, Manitoba the Atlantic provinces and BC may also have been beneficiaries…no?). That really is a novel take. Listen, I’m not going to waste my time with this, but you could make exactly the same arguments with respect to the Atlantic provinces. But you don’t. It’s always about Quebec. Every time I read crap like this it reminds me why separatists exist — thanks a hell of a lot!

      • Marc L says:

Sorry Gordon, but dairy supply management started in Ontario in the 1960s. In 2009 Quebec accounted for 36.8% of dairy cash receipts, while Ontario accounted for 32.4% — only marginally less. As for your argument about the CWB, the same would hold for Ontario, who also produces very little feed grain. Actually I would probably agree with much of what you wrote had you said “central Canada” rather than just “Quebec” — which would make sense given the population base. But then that would sort of wreck your party wouldn’t it.

  8. Ed says:

Though it might be risky for an aspiring politician to joke about the view that Canada constantly appeases Quebec, I gotta admit, thats how I read it. I dunno if Rossi has the snark to pull off a comment like this, but is it possible it is a joke? I mean we know Rocco is not the brightest bulb there is, but for an Ontario candidate to beat up on quebec, even in a tweet, just seems pointless, a waste of time.

  9. WildGuesser says:

Just waiting for some Quebecker to retort back that they’re happy to be able to provide care for the elephant at a mere $5/day.

  10. Michael S says:

Shut the fuck up about the fucking elephants already!

  11. Take Dead Aim says:

am i the only one that saw this as a sarcastic joke? Guess so.

  12. Miles Lunn says:

Eglinton-Lawrence did go Tory in the last federal election and they got 47% so as much as you hate him Warren, the guy could win. Now I realize provincial and federal politics are different and there is a strong case that Ontario likes different parties in power provincially and federally, still I wouldn’t rule out a win. As for his comment on Quebec, not the greatest, although it does seem we pander a little too much to them, but we shouldn’t go the other extreme either.
