I have a son who is thirteen!

Today.  Thirteen! His sister preceded him, so now half the kids are adolescents.

Anyone who would like to explain how I am therefore “not as old as I think” are welcome to do so in comments.  You won’t be successful, but my thanks in advance for your efforts.

And happy birthday, eldest son!

Pass along my regards, there, Mr. K.

Your best friends might very well be Smith and his buddy Wesson–keep all them crazy girls away 🙂

If you have a son that’s thirteen that makes you what, 26? That’s not so old. Just wait till you hit 30.

Happy Birthday to the heir to the Kinsella throne. It’s not how you physically look but how you mentally think that keeps you young.

If he still hangs on every story you tell then your still young, if he knows he knows more stuff about life then you do then your pretty much screwed.

Warren, if you really want to feel old, think about this – your son is only one election away from standing a chance at becoming and NDP MP!
Congratulations to you both on the milestone and many happy returns.
What made me feel old was not my son’s 13th but my daugther’s 16th (both in last year).
Do you realize they do not give parents of teenage drivers tranquilizers????????????

HBD! Just think 3 years until he wants to drive your car.

Old? At least you don’t have a 19-year-old! Given that I’m only 27, I’m not sure how that happened.
And a very happy birthday to the new teenager!

Mr. K., you’ll know you’re old when one of the kids declares that you’re old enough to fart dust. According to my son-in-law, I’ve reached that point years ago. 🙂

Methinks you still got some time…

    Have a good one!

Kids 13, 14, 15, maybe even 16,…you will be so mind bogglingly busy that you won’t know how old you are.

    Get calm, and stay there!

Warren, buddy: you and I are both born in 1960 — but this year, MY daughter turns 30!

How do you think I feel? If you said excited about the miracle of the daughter and mother being the same age — you would be right.

Take it from someone with two daughters, one stepdaughter, one stepson and five little grand daughters.

A newly teenaged child can still be a good kid for a while. They will help around the house, be happy to spend time with the folks, will listen to what dad says but then all of a sudden one day it is apparent that the aliens have stolen their brain.

They will get it back again when they are 19 but the intervening years are the interesting ones. You have to be on your toes to stay cool and not become an “old” parent.

Take a mental snap shot of what he was like at ten years old. Hang onto that. When he is 20, you have a good chance of seeing a more mature version of that ten year old. The bumpy years will happen, just keep your eyes on the road. At least, that is what my dad told me. 🙂
