Elizabeth May responds to my column

…in the Tweet below, which I dutifully pass along in the interest of fairness, etc. etc. (And I didn’t “know” she felt she had to make such a choice.)

The question that she’s inviting, I think, is: why didn’t you send staff into the lockup? After all, your Member’s Office Budget (MOB) provides you with about $300K a year to hire staff, among other things.  Don’t you have any staff who could’ve gone into the lockup for you?  Why not, if not?

    She’s clearly a moron

  2. The Doctor says:

“You think it’s easy to make priorities?”

  3. Bryan says:

But since she isn’t necessarily going to be called on in QP, why waste the time in the House?

  4. Bubba says:

Well i think the answer to that is pretty obvious – sitting back in the broom closet, there is no opportunity for Lizzie to grandstand and demand that Canadians “Look at me! Look at me! I am God’s Gift to the Green Party! – what? wait! There is no election? umm ok see ya later i’ve got a book to sell – and a condo in Ottawa that IS NOT an historical property. And if any of those minions in the Green Party try to do anything according to the Green Party constitution – like umm have a leadership review – tell them i’m sending The Suzuki around to their house to throw them in jail for ignoring my magnificence.”

She read the entire collection of stolen UEA emails before commenting on them.
I think she likes to read things herself.

  6. Dave says:

Do non-recognized parties even get a staffer-lockup entitlement?

The Tories barely let caucus staff from official parties into the room, let alone back-back-backbenchers.

  7. W.B. says:

You won’t agree Warren, but why don’t the Liberal’s give May a question or two each week?

  8. Elizabeth May says:

I am leader of a grassroots party. I attended lock-up with the Green Party finance critic and two staff. We needed consensus in response and I needed to read the whole budget to handle media.

    • Transplanted Doerite says:

Liz, you are 1. Consensus of 1? What are you, an anarcho-syndicalist? (I think I’ve just insulted all the anarcho-syndicalists out there…)

I’m sorry, but that just doesn’t compute. You made a terrible decision. Learn from it and move on.

      And hire some real staff.

    • Bubba says:

The fact remains that 95% of Canadians couldn’t care less what your response is and your complete abscence on the political scene in between elections while you run around hawking your books removes any sense of legitimacy for you in many people’s eyes. I would consider voting Green and never while they are lead by such a self-righteous xantippe. And for the record it was the right decision to not have you in the debates – as TD says you are 1, nothing more and never will be more until you realize that the Green Party is bigger than you, not the other way around.

    • Michael says:

Other than being “for” the environment, (whatever that means) I have no idea what the Green Party stands for, and why we need them around.

    • JH says:

You had plenty of time to read it before the election. The changes would have taken 10 minutes.
And no you don’t deserve any special consideration as a party leader budget-wise, nor extra questions, nor to sit on committees and interrogate witnesses. Nor is their any great uprising by the public to grant you these privileges.
      Welcome to the real world.

  9. Gordeaux says:

Not sure if I have any great objection to a party leader wanting to do some of the real work. Yeah, I get it guys, you hate her and the Greens because its just one more sign that the Liberals are in tough — but the crappy attitude does you no service.

    • Jan says:

The more they puff themselves up, the smaller they look.

    • Dave says:

Really. It reflects far more on the people making the comments about Ms. May, than it does about Ms. May. And I’m not especially a fan of hers… I just don’t have some kind of *thing* for her like certain people seem to.

    • Dug says:

+1 to Gordeaux. Seriously, Liberals, quit your frickin whining or the question about what to do when you only have one MP will be a more than theoretical one for you.

  10. Sean says:

Hard to respect someone who leads one party and publicly supports the leader of another. I support the elimination of per vote subsidies primarily because it might wipe out the greens.

  11. Hammer DOM says:

I thought today’s article was great, just for the record.

  12. Rick T. says:

As much as I do not agree with her agenda, she has the right to speak her mind.

Also be prepared to hear her rants for the next four years. She was elected fair and square, so we are going to hear alot more of her.
