Ontario politics quiz

Which departing MPP(s) were giants within their respective parties, and treated with respect by their leaders – and which one was cruelly stabbed in the back by his leader, and treated like garbage, simply because he was a progressive, and because he opposed the far-right takeover of the party he’s belonged to for his entire adult life?

Kind of a leading question, I know, but I have a point to make.  Which is this: Tim Hudak will say and do anything to get back into power.

Liberal MPP Sandra Pupatello         PC MPP Norm Sterling                      NDP MPP Peter Kormos

  1. James Curran says:

one could argue Kormos in the Rae years.

  2. Derek Pearce says:

Who’ll pull ridiculous stunts for desperate attention now that Kormos is leaving? Pupatello was fiesty, but has integrity and didn’t come across as pathetic the way he did.

    Norm Sterling

“Norman William Sterling (born February 19, 1942 in Ottawa, Ontario) is a politician in Ontario, Canada. He is one of the longest-serving members of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, having been first elected in 1977.

In the 2009 leadership race, Sterling supported the successful candidacy of Tim Hudak. However, the membership of his riding association supported rural-rights candidate Randy Hillier; Carleton-Mississippi Mills was one of only three ridings in the province where Hillier won a first-ballot victory.
In March 2011, Sterling was defeated in the race for his riding’s PC nomination by Jack MacLaren, the former president of the Ontario Landowners Association.[2] MacLaren will be the party’s candidate in the 2011 provincial election. He has not ruled out retiring or running as an independent.”

  4. The man with the sterling reputation no doubt.

  5. Paul R Martin says:

I have no idea if Pupatello has been a good Cabinet Minister; however, the one time I visited the Legislature in the visitors gallery, I was completely turned off by her behaviour on the Government bench. While visitors were told that we would be tossed out if we did not behave, she was very rude in the manner in which she heckled opposition MP’s who were making reasoned speaches in response to a government bill. I would have been ejected from the gallery if I had behaved the way she did. I am glad that she is departing.
