Prisoners in your neighbourhood: Tim Hudak is lying

TORONTO, On. – An expert weighed in on the use of prisoner labour, following a proposal from Ontario’s opposition leader to force inmates to work.

If he wins the October election, Conservative leader Tim Hudak said he’ll force provincial inmates to earn their keep – doing things like raking leaves and mowing grass.

Former New York City Corrections Commissioner Martin Horn said… don’t expect [such programs] to provide 100 per cent security.

“There are ways to manage the risks; there are ways to diminish the risk, but there’s no way to eliminate risk. Will some inmates escape? Will some inmates walk away? It’s possible, and anyone who tells you it’s not is lying.”

  1. I think prisoners should be forced to perform work. If they refuse, they should be sent to jail.

What we have here….is a failure to communicate.

Hey libs, this dog won’t hunt…you can pack this meme in now.

You should be more worried about the zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz of spinning tires on ice that everyone hears whenever Dalton is narrating a TV commercial and yet is not identified at all.

    W,

Murph’s Subs is sandwiches to the Hammer as Frankie was music. Lead story on CHCH tonight. He’s been our friend for over 20 years – very close. Beat him, and his wife, in broad daylight, beside the busiest beer store/lcbo in town.

Stacey and I both manage busy bars and all the talk was Murphy tonight. Patio, walk-ins and dining-room. I was taking my son-in-law for subs there today.

Our city is in tears…and I ask myself…if a hard-working man who supports his family for over 3 decades making fucking SANDWICHES every day, 6 days a week, for 12 hours a day….and then once he’s in his 70’s, with a triple by-pass… gets beaten and robbed in BROAD DAYLIGHT…what the fuck chance do any of us have?

    I can’t sleep however-much vodka I drink.

Stacey is beside herself, and, I didn’t know where else to post.

I emailed the Mayor…said he should do a WWII Churchill on the news at noon….but our city, it is so lost…so lost Warren. I dunno.

Bad enough downtown is a shit-hole…if Murphy is crushed, then I’d have to say to everyone that the hammer is dead beyond repair, so stay away.

    Dead beyond repair.

Regards and remorse from Hammer Dom and Stacey

A bit off topic, but I finally saw the new Ontario Liberal ad on television. That is the best ad I’ve seen with the word Liberal in it, for quite some time. Great job!

  7. MCBellecourt says:

Prison farms were the better idea, but the Harperrhoids shut that down. This Hudak character sounds like a total dunce. This is not about rehabilitation, this is about exploiting prisoners to take decent-paying jobs away from law-abiding people in the name of saving a few bucks–the expense of hiring extra security personnel notwithstanding–and, not to mention the potential danger to innocent people.

These prisoners would have to be paid under minimum wage laws, wouldn’t they? Could a lawyer argue such a case in court, WK?

    Thanx in advance.

  8. I wonder what *their* knee-jerk response would be to an incident when *their* policy backfires?

    – blame the Liberals?
    – blame the MSM?
    – blame Hollywood?
    – ratchet up the rhetoric?
    – divert more money away from true rehabilitation efforts and into harsher sentencing?

At the end of the day the likely outcome of this policy, should it go off the rails, is to create more fear and distrust, not less.

  9. Savant says:

What’s comical about all this is that people suggest the Tories are being ‘too tough’ on crime and wanting punishments that are ‘too stiff’.

    OK.

So if we adopt a more ‘compassionate’ justice system, these criminals won’t be in jail at all, they’ll be in your community, living next door to you or beside the local school.

At least with chain gangs you know what you are dealing with. If you go soft on crime you get no control at all ones they are released from jail.

What a load of shit. Except for the very worst of them, they all get out eventually. I prefer to keep them locked up and getting the support they need to reintegrate rather than have them picking garbage in the ditch near my house.

This matter goes way beyond the “risk factor”, way beyond. Remember Central North Correctional Centre in Penetanguishene, Ontarians? This prisoner work proposal might be a new attempt to establish a private prison system. Conservative plans to privatize Canada’s prison system american-style are well-known, and prisoner labour could turn prisons, once privatized, into “lucrative businesses” for managements and contractors. Talk about ethics…

I agree with this. Take away their TV privileges and all the country club perks that the left have brought in over the years and treat them exactly like what they are, criminals. Lefties always seem to forget that they have committed crimes and while the idea is rehabilitation it should also be punishment and deterrent. Hire security but make them work and make them work hard. Like us law abiding citizens do. Then maybe they can enjoy some cable tv. Still at us law abiding taxpayers expense though.

    • smelter rat says:

That’s the most moronic statement I’ve seen in a long time. Ever been to a prision?……………….. Didn’t think so.

      • Lord Kitchener says:

it sure is moronic; but, it isnt far off from Ontario Tory Key Messaging on the subject.

nobody has the market on self-righteous rhetoric cornered like the Frat Boy Hudak

      • Ryan says:

No I haven’t because I obey the law and I also don’t respond to an argument that someone makes by calling them juvenile names. Did you present any valid counter point at all……..don’t think so. Yes I admit prisons do not offer the best conditions but it angers me that I have to pay for my cable tv and work hard for it yet some lousy criminal gets it for free for a crime against society that they committed. Instead of calling my statements moronic how about coming up with a valid argument of your own? Or at least explaining it a bit Mr. Rat.

  12. Mike London says:

Anytime I see a comment with “law-abiding citizen,” I know where it’s going. Anyone who thinks that provincial jails are a country club needs to visit one. They’re awful. Besides, anyone who comes up with an idea like this, (Tim Hudak,) raises it because he has nothing else to offer. There are so many challenges in Ontario with regard to energy, poverty, mental health, deficit reduction, and the list goes on. If Tim Hudak can make some meaningful proposals on this stuff, then I’ll pay attention. For now, he’s a one-trick pony.
