Angelo

Angelo isn’t just a friend, he’s one of my closest friends. He calls me his little brother, in fact. And I didn’t have a clue this was coming, not a clue, which is how it should be. I saw it on Twitter, like everyone else.

The Star has been exceedingly gracious about his departure, and Official Ottawa seems to be agog. What does it mean? Is it good for Angelo? Is it good for his new boss? There’s lots of buzz in political/media circles.

On Tuesday in the Sun, I will write about my friend, and perhaps tell Official Ottawa some things it didn’t know about Angelo. Or should.

If so, Corriere Canadese is now Canada’s National Newspaper. Very smart move.

BTW: I’m not kidding. Angelo doesn’t just have ties with Corriere Canadese, he’s tight with the publishers of Das Echo, Homin Ukrainy, and the entire top tier of hyphenated-Canadian media, with a net circulation that shames the Globe. Readers tend to be citizen, older, and more conservative in outlook, and the Liberal party’s hold on them has been a throwaway quarter-page ad in each issue. A huge untapped outlet for messaging the voters.

just a “hmmmm?” reflecting a few raised eyebrows in Liberaldom and may I just add an “Ouch!”
Not only message getting away but messengers too?
Questions in Liberaldom: “There is a media beyond the Star and it’s not just Twitter and Facebook?”
      “Who knew?”

They tried already, few years back. I declined as politely as I could.

    He’ll fit right in.

Looks like the lifespan for the gig is about one year, short enough to not develop an empire of one’s own. Not a bad gig for a 63-year-old.

Too bad you didnt know WK…you could have let Angelo borrow your Garlic necktie and flask of holy water and he could have politely declined as well.
