I stopped reading the National Post when Lord Tubby turned it into the Canadian Alliance Bugler(that and his insistence on American spelling)……perhaps its time to start reading it again…….
It would be interesting to have a look at the ad they’re referring to (and apologizing for).
In any event, I’ve always thought that this argument that so-con fundies make, that being taught or exposed to this or that will “make you” gay or whatever, is a complete crock of sh*t.
Thanks for that, Jim. Re McVety’s lobby group – as a general rule, I find that anybody who purports to lecture me on what “Canadian values” are is a butthead.
I’m glad they tackled the free speech issue in the apology. I’m not big on shutting down free speech even if it’s offensive (and this was beyond offensive; it bordered on hate.) This, though, could have been shut down on straight accuracy.
I also have doubts that this ad didn’t go through proper NP vetting. No sales rep/graphics department would have thought this didn’t need approvals. They just didn’t anticipate the outrage.
Now the ad has run in the Toronto Sun. The paper in which YOUR column appears and on whose network you’re a regular panelist. Will you stand on principle and publicly denounce their decision to accept an that the Post apologized for running?

Yes, they deserve big credit for doing the right thing in a very competitive and polarizing marketplace.
