UPDATE: Okay, this is getting expensive – the ever-news-hungry Ladurantaye at the Globe has said on Twitter that he’s tripling my offer. Holy smokes! This is getting expensive – or, at the very least, not unlike Fleet Street before the NOTW implosion. In any event, I will top (not by much) whatever Ladurantaye offers.
After all, it’s a tape that will help to defeat Rob Ford in the next mayoralty race, so it’s worth the investment, wouldn’t you say? Adam V. or Josh M., care to participate, here?

No matter what Rob Ford’s version of events is, the video tape clearly shows that he clearly knew that this was not a police emergency, but he called 911 two times anyway, and tied up emergency dispatchers and police officers who may have been needed for a real emergency. He should be charged with mischief, and then the tape will be presented in court.

But, to their credit, they have learned that perception is reality, and that, for reasons I don’t understand, Joe Public will hear their lies and believe them outright. So, it’s not the truth that matters anymore, but rather the ability to get your lies out first.

There are several problems with the blog post you link to, Gord, not the least of which is that it says Ford used no profanity, when Ford himself admits he dropped the f-bomb. Hard to take any of it at face value when it gets that simple central fact wrong.
That said, I’m not a fan of TV shows, or even real reporters, ambushing someone — even someone I dislike as much as Rob Ford — at their family home. If you are attempting an interview or a skit based on a person’s public persona, you do it in a public place, not at their home. I was equally annoyed when I heard The Star had been going to individual cops’ homes for ambush-style interviews.

Probably, but which law and who can bring a remedy?
The police say they can’t because of privacy laws which implies there is no specific prohibition on its release, but that it may contain personal information which would violate Ford’s rights if released. Would Ford actually sue or would the appropriate Privacy Commissioner attempt a penalty? Yes in the former; probably not in the latter.
Could a journalist publish it or a transcript of it? I think so.
Would a government authority, such as the Mayor, attempting to block publication of it constitute an infringement of free expression Charter Rights? Probably.
