Up at the lake, irritated

I should be sleeping more, but I made the mistake of reading some the articles in the paper containing quotes from people pretending to know what happened in the Ontario Liberal campaign, and pretending that they were big-deal strategists and all that.

Here’s what you should know:

1. The people quoted are making it up. Most of them never set foot in HQ once – not once. Two of them were leakers to the Tories.

2. They are trying to get their names in the paper for business, or glory, or both. They deserve neither.

3. If they keep this up, they will be very sorry.

4. Along with the leader, caucus and candidates, here’s the names of the folks who turned around a 20-point deficit: Don Guy. Laura Miller. Dave Gene. Johnny Z. Jane Almeida. Chris Morley. Brendan McGuinty. Charlie Angelakos. Alicia Johnston. John Brodhead. Brian Clow. Jorge Gomez. Fahim Kaderdina. Jamison Steeve. Lloyd Rang. Sean O’Connor. Gordon Ashworth. Bob Lopinski. Aaron Lazarus. Greg Sorbara. Alex Johnston. And the War Room, and the Policy Shop, and Tour, and Media Monitoring, and many, many others – too many to name.

Not the names you are reading in the paper.

Got it? Okay. Sorry, but there’s only so much bullshit I can take.

Now, back to sleep.

the good news is, we may be doing this all over again in a year or so.

I’ll assume you also read, lol:

Apologies for this ot post, but, it occurred to me this morning that Mr. McGuinty may be in an exellent position to throw his hat into the LPC leadership race when that contest gets the green light in 2013…
I think he has nation wide name recognition. He does speak en francais.
Could he bring together the red and blue liberals at the federal level?

  4. Cath says:

Wonderful that the McGuinty campaign made such good use of those word clouds. Very effective medium and I recall showing them to you right here.
    You’re right, stay in bed.
Big benefit concert for Goderich today! Tune in to Global National on Thanksgiving Day for a glimpse of what determination means….and oddly enough it’s got little to do with politics or media.

  5. Don Guy says:

Don’t forget Warren Kinsella! Awesome job.

    • Cath says:

      Forget Kinsella? Uh…nope.
My riding went Blue, but we went Blue AND had the highest voter turnout in the province at 60%.
That’s ALL thanks to those wind turbines. In an ironic twist, it was also WIND that destroyed my town.

      • james Smith says:

I bet the same folks who want to repeal the metric system

      • Ben says:

People who are afraid of wind turbines are on par with 9/11 truthers when it comes to the nutjob scale.

        • frmr disgruntled Con now happy Lib says:

A friend I know who lives in the riding which encompasses Chatham said that her families five votes for the Liberal candidate were all for naught, as the anti-wind turbiners(turbineteabaggers?) in this rural riding won the day…..seems that farms were bought up to put the turbines on, and when the neighbours didnt get a cut, then the health problems started…..

She mentioned there is very little opposition to them in Germany as the govt pays those who live nearby…and they havent had one case of “turbineitis”…..

        • George says:

add all of these communities to your “nutjob” file Ben – there’s a pretty clear reason why there’s no push of turbines on Lake Ontario’s waterfront isn’t there?

““Nothing makes it clearer than looking at a map of Ontario. With the exception of Kingston and the Islands, and Thunder Bay Atikokan, anomolies as largely urban population base ridings with wind turbines in rural fringes, it seems EVERY riding that has or is actively
targeted for more than 1 wind turbine has repudiated the government that set
          the turbine policy and direction.

I’m thinking James and Ben have never lived near the new windmills themselves. (And I grew up near to Mississuaga’s South’s former ‘evil’ residential area Coal Plant.)

        • james Smith says:

Funny story, folks who are upset at wind farms never found their health was a problem living near by a 100+ year old oil & gas field & biggest refinery-row in Canada.

      • CQ says:

… and the really fancier BOME’s lived nearby the Esso, Shell, and Petro Canada oil refineries; all since and appropriately closed. Maybe there’s something to those reported and dismissed windmill troubles.

        • Ben says:

These folks need to admit that its property values, not health reasons that anger them about the windmills. In other words, NIMBYs.

  6. frmr disgruntled Con now happy Lib says:

A standing O to all those who truly slogged in the trenches………… You’re a class act, Mr. Kinsella……..

Having said that, enjoy the arms of Morpheus….

  7. Right on Warren, the people in the trenches dont get the recognition they deserve.

  8. Trevor says:

Congratulations Warren!. I personally credit you with the Ontario Liberal Party winning
a third term yesterday. I truly believe that you are the greatest political strategist in the
history of our country. The Ontario Liberal Party was running 10 points or more behind
the Hudak Conservatives less than a month ago, and you brought them back from the brink.

Do you think there is any chance that McGuinty could convince one or two NDP and/or
Conservative MPPs to cross the floor so as the Ontario Liberal Party could secure a proper
majority government?. With the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario becoming so
right-wing under the leadership of American Republican-style Tea Party Timmy Hudak,
I have often wondered if the tiny minority of Red Tories who still remain in the
Conservative caucus (I believe Elizabeth Witmer and Ted Arnott are the only
Red Tories who remain), would ever consider walking the floor over to the Liberals
much as former Progressive Conservative Party of Canada MPs such as Scott Brison,
John Herron, Belinda Stronach and Garth Turner did when they went over to the
    Liberal Party of Canada.

    What do you think?.

PS: Once again you are the best!. Any election campaign would be most blessed to
have you on thier team. I really hope you can work your magic once again in rebuilding
the Liberal Party of Canada for the 2015 election AND hopefully working closely with
a centrist Toronto City Councilor, who hopefully emerges, to ensure that “Il Duce” is not
reelected as Mayor of Toronto in 2014!.

  9. Twenty Year Grit says:

He would never want to be acknowldged, but here is to John Fraser and his amazing team in Ottawa South….can’t be Premier if you don’t kick ass in your own riding. A sense of humour and a work ethic like Dalton McGuinty, John and the OS team once again brought it home for Dalton. Forward Together for a better Ontario.

  10. Bernie Farber says:

I have known you Warren for more years than both you and I care to think about. And yet this was the frist time we worked together. Must tell you that your confidence gave me confidence. Whenever the scene looked bleak I simply came here for a shot of adrenalin. Thank you brother for being you and for having such a strong hand on the wheel.

  11. Brian says:

Every campaign should do this at the end of a campaign. Results permitting, of course.

  12. Annie says:

My riding went blue , after going Liberal since Mcguinty first got in, because of the Wind Turbines..he was Environment minister damn it!…lots of farmers in Wellington.

  13. Michael S says:

Warren, I’m at my lake in Quebec, and if we were neighbors I’d be pouring you a Highland Park 15 right now. Of course they’re out now pretending to be success’s parents. As it always has been. If we were drinking scotch rght now I’d remind you that the best don’t need to take visible credit because the ones who are really good don’t need to. Shout “BOLLOCKS” and move on, because you don’t want to work with the people who believe them, and the ones you should work with will know .

Same old same old wherever you go.

    • Michael S says:

Oh. By the way, I knew it was bullshit right away. Two big giveaways in the first graph. If an outsiider like me can see through it, so will the people that matter. Relax. Nobody is taking credit for Timmy’s campaign.

  14. Sean says:

This kind of post is exactly why I read this site every day.

  15. Elissa says:

And you forgot to mention Rob Ford. Surely some credit is due to him for helping turn around a twenty point deficit.

  16. Tim says:

In my experience, most people in politics who concieve of themselves as ingenious grand “strategists” are douches who just don’t want to do any real work like the rest of the campaign grunts. It’s the same in every party. Give me a guy or gal willing to work the phones or knock on doors for 12 hours over the most brilliant campaign Napoleon any day.

Self-annointed genius is no substitute for hard work, in life or politics.
