Compared to North Korea, Hell is an upgrade.

Just got the news from a friend. Wow, 2011’s been a big year for dead “bad guys”, for immediate lack of a more sophisticated word. Not to make light of the millions who experienced hardship under his rule, but I kind of imagine him chilling in hell right now with Bin Laden and Al-Alwaki. What am I saying? I don’t even believe in hell. However, it was envisioned for people just like him

Watch this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJ6E3cShcVU It’s a riveting look at the madness that is North Korea.

Not a bad Christmas present. And, whether one believes in Hell or not, he is no longer able to sustain his own hell on earth. Would it be too far-fetched to hope that his successor might be somewhat more moderate and humane?

    Well said Warren.

Hopefully someone will take power that will take North Korea on a less crazy path forward.

Celebrities always die in trios. I guess Havel and Hitchens got to pick number three…

  7. Brian says:

I’m watching carefully to see if the people who said they “wouldn’t celebrate anyone’s death” when Ghadafi went down are changing their stripes on this one or not.

And oh yeah. Burn in hell, comrade.

  8. Warren says:

I’m thinking Gord typed this one on his iPhone, upside down in a Coke machine.

All your base are belong to us.

    LOL

In a timely coincidence, the late Mr. Hitchens who was discussed last week wrote an enlightening article on North Korea last February in Slate Magazine. Here is part of what he said:

“I understand now that I got the picture either upside down or inside out. The whole idea of communism is dead in North Korea, and its most recent “Constitution,” “ratified” last April, has dropped all mention of the word. The analogies to Confucianism are glib, and such parallels with it as can be drawn are intended by the regime only for the consumption of outsiders. [..we should instead regard the Kim Jong-il system as a phenomenon of the very extreme and pathological right. It is based on totalitarian “military first” mobilization, is maintained by slave labor, and instills an ideology of the most unapologetic racism and xenophobia.”

  11. The Doctor says:

Ever since the movie Team America: World Police, I could never take Kim Jong-il seriously. As soon as I heard the news this morning, I immediately thought of his boffo solo number from the movie, “I’m so Ronery”:

What makes you think things will change in North Korea? And what makes you think China would clap their hands if North Korea were to out and out attack South Korea? China will not like the Americans are hoping happens. And…..there isn’t any such thing as Hell.
