Question about Parliamentary rules

If Peter Kent is a piece of shit, is that a defence?

Where there is shit, there is gas. Wait! Gas! Hasn’t bovine flatulence been noted as a source of greenhouse gas emission? Justin was merely pointing out the obvious while drawing attention to Peter Kent’s role in further screwing up our planet for generations. In more ways than one. And they say there’s nothing to be learned from QP anymore!

  2. Norbert Stanley says:

all depends on what “is“ is!

  3. pomojen says:

Helps explain a lot…but that’s not really the same thing as a “defense”.

  4. Ted H says:

The Germans have a word for him “backpfeifengesicht” “a face badly in need of a fist”

    • david says:

Our language is sadly lacking in some respects. It looks as if the Germans got this one right.

    • allegra fortissima says:

Make sure to pronounce ‘Backpfeifengesicht’ with a plosive ‘p’. And if no air is passing over your tongue when you say the ‘ch’-sound, you aren’t saying it correctly.

      German for Dummies 🙂

    • JStanton says:

… easy on the Kent-hate… don’t be a sucker. Remember, Mr. Harper decides policy, strategy and tactics. Mr. Kent does what he is told. He may appear a lickspittle, but that’s the cost of doing business in the “Harper Government”. If it had been Mr. Baird or Mr Toews or Mr. Kenney any of his other functionary-drones, the outcome would have been the same.

It’s important that any fall-out is directed at the cause of the problem, which is Mr. Harper, not Mr. Kent.

    • david says:

Just so there is no mistake I’m referring to Trudeau.

  5. Ottawacon says:

The weirdest thing about this blow up? Elizabeth May’s comment about Kent’s statement.

“So even though the slur was against an NDP MP, it was appalling.”

What the heck does she mean? There is a lower standard to how one conducts oneself toward the NDP?!?

    • Philip says:

Ask your Conservative Party that question. Oh, that’s right, all you do is apologize after the fact for their behaviour.

  6. WDM says:

This becomes a scandal because it’s out of the ordinary.

Things that aren’t out of the ordinary

    1. Ramming Bills through Parliament with little oversight, through closure yes (which is appalling), but by government and Opposition alike, in minority and majority Parliaments.
    2. Getting the AG to find out why money was spent. The AG does a great job, but many of the issues that merged with past scandals could have been curbed before the money went out the door. Sifting over balance sheets may not be as sexy for a committee as investigating former PMs, or who a MP hires as a Nanny, but it’s their damn job, and they’ve fallen down on it.

  7. TheSilentObserver says:

Oh wow, just watched the video. Trudeau, though he has annoyed me at times in the recent past, is ten feet high today in my books

    • Pat says:

I actually think this could help him. Instead of the goody goody that he’s been made out to be, he just added a bit of badass. I think that Canadians, on the whole, will see this as passion and frustration rather than anything too offensive. People say that type of thing all the time – they’ll identify with him.

Readers of Vonnegut will remember the story in which visitors
from a distant planet visited earth.Although they resembled us
humans they did not communicate through speech.Instead
they coomunicated through a combination of farting and
tap dancing.I think that if I were to meet up with them they
would make more sense than anything Peter Kent says about
    anything.
On the other hand if Trudeau is correct maybe Kent
would have something in common with them.

      Win!

    • smelter rat says:

Zog landed at night in Connecticut. He had no sooner
touched down than he saw a house on fire. He rushed into the
house, farting and tap dancing, warning the people about the
terrible danger they were in. The head of the house brained
      Zog with a golf club

  9. JStanton says:

    … that’s it? … that’s all you’ve got?.. .

  10. Reality Bites says:

    Fuddle duddle was funny.

Calling Peter Kent a piece of shit is just… understated accuracy.

    • Pete says:

As opposed to a “sound bite” it was a “turd bite”. Good on Justin for both saying it and apologizing for saying it in the HOC.

  11. Tiger says:

Am I the only one who just was tremendously amused by the whole thing?

  12. Marc L says:

If a conservative had called a Liberal member a “piece of shit” you would all be screaming murder, bellowing about how this reflects the Harper government’s contempt for parliamentary institutions and democracy. But hey, if a Liberal does it, not only is it acceptable, it’s amusing. This is great fun isn’t it? Well, this is NOT funny, it’s NOT amusing. It’s childish. It’s juvenile. I don’t care which party does it; behaviour like this should not be condoned, period.

    • scanner says:

Marc. you are absolutely right, this is NOT amusing. It’s fricking HILARIOUS. And extremely accurate as anyone who has had to deal with Kent knows.
As the Scots say, up yer kilt.

      • Marc L says:

Somehow, I doubt you’d be saying that if a Conservative called a Liberal a “piece of shit”. The typical double standard. As for finding behaviour like that HILARIOUS, well, that is exactly why so many people are turned off by the spectacle that is question period. That’s it, keep on finding them HILARIOUS, keep on encouraging these obnoxious politicians and their childish antics. At least Trudeau is mature enough to realize that acting like a 5-year old is wrong, which is more than I can say for you.

        • Philip says:

So, lets see if I got this right…. Ozone Kent is piece of shit but nobody can call him that because Canadian’s would be turned off Question Period?

  13. smelter rat says:

Nonsense. He’s already publicly apologized, something no Reformacon has ever done.

    • pomojen says:

…even when their transgressions are bad enough – regularly the case – to be formally sanctioned.

Although they do get 1/2 a point for the most ridiculous non-apology of the year when their pal from Lethbridge blamed Youtube for his inappropriate Yosemite Sam impression.

    • Marc L says:

And that is all to his credit.

      • smelter rat says:

So, pretending to unload his six shooter at the opposition in the HOC is just hunky dory with you, but calling a shithead a piece of shit is verbotten? Thanks for clarifying.

    • Justin says:

It was like John O’Toole, a PC party member in Ontario gave the finger in the legislature back in 2003, he denied it but had to fess up when he was caught on camera. I don’t know if he apologized though.

  14. bc says:

The Left (which now includes the NDP and Liberals, apparently) certainly has raised the bar on political discourse over the past few years…

At least Pat Martin didn’t spew his nonsense in the walls of the HoC. Nice to see liberals show their true colours when they don’t get their way.

    • smelter rat says:

Pay attention…it had nothing to do with “getting his way”. He simply got tired of being lied to, and by extension having Canadians being lied to by a Minister of the Crown.

    • Chris Prowse says:

It is not just the Liberals that didn’t get their way. I is the majority of Canadians that didn’t get their way!

  15. Bil Huk says:

if you think someone is a piece of shit in the HoC, feel free to let them know?

    good times.

  16. Domenico says:

Nice to see some honest emotion in the HoC, not just the usual mock outrage of the Crap-ers. And no better target than Ozone.

  17. Ted H says:

If I have the story straight, Peter Kent criticized the NDP Environment critic for not attending the Durban conference yet he banned opposition members from attending the conference and in doing so broke with a long standing government policy of bringing opposition MP’s to such conferences. This is what prompted Justin Trudeau’s outburst. In a caucus noted for it’s smarmy behaviour, Peter Kent stands out. Maybe Justin has given shit a bad name.

  18. Dan says:

I don’t think I’m the only one whose respect for Justin Trudeau just went up.

  19. pedro says:

I’m just happy that a member of the House finally voiced what I, as I Canadian, I am thinking day in and day out.
What Kent said went WAY further over the line of decorum than Trudeau’s POS statement.

  20. Philippe says:

    Can I pre-order?

  21. Ken says:

    Shiddle-Diddle!
