W@AL: A boring New Year’s Eve in Vancouver

Warren goes looking for excitement at one of Vancouver’s trendiest locales, and finds none. Check it out!

Oh, and Happy New Year. Don’t become a statistic.

No dinner invitation? No rooftop party? A proof that WK does not wear pantyhose!

    Happy New Year, Warren!

Commercial Drive, Chinatown, Yaletown, Davie Street, Denman, Coal Harbour, West 4th, Kitsilano….I can think of a lot more places to have fun than sterile Robson St……used to be much livelier back in the day when it was Robsonstrasse…..now its all corporate chain stores….ugh….At any rate, enjoy the rest of your stay in LotusLand…..

Id like to take this opportunity to wish you, Mr. Kinsella, and all the posters on your fine forum a very Happy, Safe, and Prosperous New Year!….

I have to agree with you about Robson Street — 30 years ago it had some character, but most of it is long gone. And I agree, way too many sterile chain stores there now — a big cause of that was landlords jacking rent on old-time small business tenants and thus forcing them out. GAP et al. were the only ones willing or able to pay sky-high rents.

So yeah, Warren is significantly off-base calling Robson or Starbucks “one of Vancouver’s trendiest locales.” The coffee at Starbuck’s also blows.

I’m guessing that the car falling out of the sky on my head didn’t give you the hint that it wasn’t a straight-news posting.

Actually Warren, I just saw your post as a great opportunity to rant about the sterilization of Robson Street and the fact that Starbucks coffee blows. 🙂

Warren, two stories from Vancouver, and both on the same block of Robson Strauss. Go visit real Vancouver, say Commercial Drive or Hastings. Even Granville. Only tourists hang around on Robson.
