R.I.P., Seamus the Irish Setter

This morning, as we waited for a client call to start, I told my staff – animal lovers all – about the sad, er, tale of Seamus, Mitt Romney’s Irish Setter.

They didn’t believe me.  When I finished telling the tale, they were in shock.

I told them we should start a contest: come up with the best design for a Seamus Romney T-shirt, and we’ll get it printed on a few that we can sell to benefit a deserving animal protection group (we represent quite a few).

So, get to work, Team Wk.com! The best design gets a signed copy of The War Room, plus a few T-shirts to give to Democratic friends, and/or Newt Gingrich!

But – but – but – but if the dog had been inside the station wagon, where would the dog X have ended up? It’s easy to clean the outside of a station wagon; but have any of you rich people ever tried to clean stuff like that when it is inside a station wagon?

I caught most of the CNN debate last evening. Some guy from the well fed, well dressed audience, calling himself a Palestinian American Republican, asked a question about two states in Palestine. The moderator, Blitzer, as is his wont, gave replies only to Romney and Gingrich. They both gave the questioner absolutely no hope at all for his old homeland and uppity people. Blitzer did not give Santorum a chance to address the issue, and Blitzer definitely did not want to give Ron Paul even a whisper on it.
Romney came on a bit in this debate…Gingrich claimed that he wanted to get away from personal trivia, but Romney goaded Gingrich into belying that claim by getting G to continue to pick and whine. It made G look kind of petty.
Santorum looks like he is running for vice…or to set himself up for 2016.
Paul was his usual wry, straight on self. I think that his ‘peace and prosperity’ sell is catching on. I keep hearing that a lot of young Republicans and Libertarians are right there with him. He won’t win, but he will have a few delegates to bargain with at a convention.

I just learned a new English word on huffingtonpost: “to Romney” – LOL!

Dave, don’t be so fussy. Romnings can be cleaned up easily inside the car, all it takes are rubber gloves, a sponge, paper towel, soap and hot water. Not a big deal, shit happens. Beside, only the insecure would squeeze their pet into a kennel!

It’s looking like Mitt and other rodent will have a fight to the death.
I love watching these assholes destroying each other.

  4. Warren says:

Gord, only you could take the story of one man’s stupidity in another country, and try and link it to a political party in this country.

You do your credibility no favours. But by all means, keep at it.

  5. Chris says:

Gord, do you really think that there’s no difference between a dog that can move around in the back of a truck vs. a dog that is literally scared shitless in a crate on the roof of a car?

How many times have you ever seen somebody transporting a pet in a crate/cage on the roof of a car?

    • Chris says:

Me: How many times have you ever seen somebody transporting a pet in a crate/cage on the roof of a car?

Gord: I have seen dogs in crates on truckbeds several times

      YOU ARE AMAZING,

      • Lawrence Barry says:

Hey Chris – you’re not one of those assholes that drives around with their dog loose in the back of their truck are you??

    • Jan says:

Gord, you can admit what Romney did was ridiculous without turning into a liberal. Not everything is a right/left issue. By the way, dogs loose in the back of a pick up is very dangerous for the dog.

    • pomojen says:

You have as few facts as Chris does to back up your “they seemed fine” statement. Man, if a conservative claimed the earth was flat you’d jump ride on board, wouldn’t you. Maybe even ride on back in a crate.

  6. Neil says:

ummm Gord you should perhaps know that it is illegal in Alberta to transport a dog loose in a truck bed. Not sure about in a crate but loose is a no go. So yeah if the LPC has a policy of observing the law I guess it would be fine to let people know. Perhaps your party wants to ignore the law…maybe you should let people know that..but they CPC does not seem to have a lot of respect for the law, certainly not election law.

    Warren
I gotta tell ya, I have a problem believing this story.
Not that I don’t think Mitt would have done it, but this guy is worth like 200 million bucks. The idea that he strapped his own crate to a car is far fetched. The idea that he drove 12 hours is ridiculous, he would have flown. I think the story is Romney trying to look like a down home guy and just blowing it when he tells it.

  8. Iris Mclean says:

Good thing he had a station wagon. Otherwise the kids would have had to ride in the trunk.

  9. Lawrence Stuart says:

Ok, this isn’t about the dog thing, but it’s my best shot at a Mittens gag:

(sung to the tune of ROdgers and Hammerstein’s My Favourite Things — Julie Andrews singing, of course!)

    ahem …

Private equity plutocrat has no contrition,
Stripping of assets is his shameless mission–
“You poor folk benefit in some unseen way,
my wealth must trickle down anyway”

    When the Newt bites
    When Ron Paul stings
    When I’m feeling sad
I simply remember my low tax rate schemes
And then I don’t feel so bad …
