Instead of getting economic and fiscal info from plumbers, nurses, small retailers, and parents, conseravtives get their economic and fiscal info from guys who work with credit default swaps, arbitrages, offshore accounts, tax shelters, and stock market algorithms.

(We had a report the last couple of days claiming that the income gap in BC is widening more than elsewhere. Our finance minister, Kevin Falcon, addressed this income gap. His rationale reminds me of the photo of the cat sitting innocently meowing to you as you walk in the door: While you were out, a burglar came in and shredded the drapes.)

LOL. The Cons running around talking about “fiscal prudence” both here and down south is such a goddamned joke. The fact anyone at all believes them is a sham of epic proportions. Liberals need to do a better job of repeating over and over how bad conservatives are with our economies and hard-earned tax dollars. We gave them a golden platter, and as usual, we’ll inherit their mess.

    • VH says:

This is 100% correct. Big picture and it’s all Cons are just shilling for a tiny few billionaires.

      Con tactics writ large:
Always promise tax cuts. Nobody likes paying taxes and math is hard for most people to begin with.
Always say the gov’t wastes money and unions are the problem. Sets up a fall guy for when they crash the economy.

About 2 years after getting elected: “holy cow, the gov’t is in a hole – NOT OUR FAULT – we need to cut wasteful spending and we need more tax cuts”.
About 3 years after getting elected: “the economy has crashed – NOT OUR FAULT – so we need more tax cuts to stimulate demand”.
During the next election cycle: “if you don’t re-elect us, the Libs will raise your taxes and hurt the already hurting economy”.

Reagan, Bush, Thatcher, Harper, Mike Harris all did variations on this theme.

Because the Liberal party (and Democrats in the US, and Lib Dems in the UK) have too many hippies who like smoking dope, they haven’t an answer to any of this and the Cons have free rein when talking to the middle class. Who outnumber the dope smokers by a significant margin.

You didn’t give us a golden platter. You gave us the sponsorship scandal and a PM that was a joke (embarrassment) on the world stage.
This is why you find yourselft in third place.

      • Philippe says:

Bill, I’m assuming you read. Check the graphs/stats. It’s not my fault that your beloved Cons scammed you and the Timmies crowd into believing they’re responsible with the public purse.

      • Tim says:

Yessir Bill, he was such an international embarrassment that HRH Queen Elizabeth II was forced to give him the Award of Merit. And Bloomberg is a communist organisation and the Laffer curve is firmly established as a credible economic theory. I can’t imagine what it’s like for professional people who have to argue with bullshitters every day of the week.

I am far more ashamed of our representation on the world stage now than I have ever been in my life. and I am far, far from alone on that point.

    I can’t wait till these bastards self-destruct.

It could happen faster than we all think. 2015 is a literal and figurative eternity.

This BS Senator today with his hang ’em high crap.

Harpercrite just, not, quite, being able to keep the quislings from mouthing off despite War Room directives.

Throwing the seniors under the bus via Davos pronouncements.

Drip, drip, drip………… it could happen, folks. What are YOU doing to bring this about?

Not a minute too soon for me.

  5. Neil says:

    Gord
Why would you assume that the Bush tax cuts had a stimulative impact, this right wing claim has never been proven. We do not have to prove they did not have an effect you have to prove they did and you can’t. That is the scientific method.

    • Philip says:

I have always wondered where the Conservatives get this whole tax cuts create stimulus thing from? Where is the actual proof of this?

    • Ted B says:

      What? Doesn’t 5 minus 10 equal plus 12?

Worked for Bush so Harper tried it. Worked for Harper so Cameron and Rob Ford are trying it.

It’s the new math, conservative style.

Or, if you will, it’s the mathematic stylings of the conservatives.

  6. Dave Wells says:

So very cozy in your little cocoon….

  7. Windsurfer says:

Oh, and Gord, are you sweating?

Perhaps some of your Calgary cohorts are.

    Sorry, Red Deer that was.

  8. Cam Prymak says:

Laughable is right. Even David Stockman has said these tax cuts are unsupportable. “Stockman: Bush Tax Cuts Will Make U.S. Bankrupt”, http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=129052425

Enough blame to go around for Republicans and Democrats but please stop pretending that outrageous tax cuts automatically trigger economic growth. If that was the case Reagan would not have had to raise taxes after he cut them and we would have seen a faster rebound in the economy in the last 2 years.

  9. Anne Peterson says:

Reminds me of Diane Finlay saying yesterday in Question Period that they are buying all the military hardware to protect Candian seniors from foreign invasion. It’s hard to believe she actually said this, but I really, really heard it.
