March 5: your afternoon Robocon

Quote:

OTTAWA – A Conservative backbencher is suggesting Elections Canada may be to blame for the robocalls affair.

“I suspect that at the end of the day, if Elections Canada has the resources to do a proper investigation, they’ll find they’re themselves significantly responsible,” Saskatchewan MP Maurice Vellacott said in a statement.”

Oh my Lord God – you can set your watch by this one! They’ve blamed Liberals, rogue staffers, the media, and even denied it happened at all.

It’s 2004 all over again!

Prime Minister Paul Martin says a small, “sophisticated” group of civil servants was behind the corruption scandal in the federal sponsorship program.

Martin rejected calls to name those 14 or so bureaucrats believed responsible for the scandal, saying the public inquiry he has called will uncover all information on the matter.”

It’s like Putin’s weekend “win,” too, except that one at least had election observers! Anyway, I love this thing. For progressives, it’s the gift that keeps on giving.

(The Robocon Cons won’t love my column tomorrow, however.)

With no dip, yet, in Harper’s polling numbers, it suggests that the emerging HarperCon strategy is a combination of putting out a series of Big Lies, muddying the waters and then hoping that the Timmy’s crowd simply gives up following and goes back to sleep.

You put much more faith in Nick Nanos than I do.

    • If you BELIEVE in polls, then you have not read George Orwell’s “1984” i.e. manipulation of the facts to achieve a positive outcome.

Polls are a tool of the 1%. Who publishes polls? Billionaire-owned media. Who paid for the poll? What were the questions asked in the poll? Who did they call? Many young people don’t have landline phones and I don’t know if they are calling cell phones.

Nanos poll is a disaster for the Conservative Party. At 35.7% their inefficiencies in support (ie: huge margins in Alantic Canada, BC and Alberta) kill them on the seat count.
      With the Nanos poll:
Con. Party has 136 seats. Down 6.2% in Ont.
      Liberal Party gets 86 seats
      NDP gets 81 seats
(the above projections are from the absolutely indispensable 308.com)
The owner of the site makes the point that other polls flip the Liberals and NDP positions. Before the Nanos poll came out on the weekend other polls had the Con Party down to 127 seats.

All in all the election fraud is starting to stick, it’s going to get even rougher for them as this moves forward.

      • Steven says:

        Thanks for the analysis, Philip.

What is also interesting, however, is that the “MSM”, especially the radio and TV news, will almost certainly report the Nanos poll, on its face and without such analysis, in a convenient “snack size”, as being evidence that Canadians simply don’t care that much about the issue.

This facile interpretation, however, -along with HarperCon spin that it’s only the “losers” complaining – only further re-inforces to the generally disengaged public that the issue is unimportant to their lives, compared to say, the HarperCons’ amazing, excellent economic and tough-on-crime record….

Unless WK’s prediction about the timelines and traction of this issue proves accurate, I lament that the cartoonish Del Mastro and the other Harper Con sock-puppets will have served their purpose and their outrageous behaviour may well be a distant memory.

        • Philip says:

Believe me, Steven, I know exactly where you are coming from on this. It can be frustrating to say the least. Keep this in mind, particularly this week, The Con Party will throw as much money and effort at smothering this slow motion disaster as they are able. This is the rainy day the Con Party has been saving for.

On the bright side it won’t work, long term. Prior to the election fraud, Harper and Co. have pissed away any goodwill they may of earned from the Canadian public. This is going to damage the Con Party as it is but the longer they drag the process out, the deeper and more lasting damage they will do to themselves. The situation will get very interesting for Harper as the taller foreheads in the Con Party realize this.

          • Steven says:

            One can only hope.

By the way, is it just me or does Del Mastro, in his wild accusations, remind you of Bluto from “Animal House” trying to inspire his frat mates by invoking the German’s attack on Pearl Harbour?

Warren K / anyone listening: Isn’t there any “separated at birth” humour in this?

        • Steven says:

Or even better: Del Mastro like Jon Lovitz’s pathological liar character Tommy Flanagan in SNL…

“For progressives, it’s the gift that keeps on giving.”

Absolutely! For the Ontario Liberals and Dalton this is a wonderful distraction….. but in the end….. as always as you yourself know too well: it’s the economy that will always be on peoples’ minds and eventually their votes. Today’s poll bears that out and the March budget will tell all!

  3. Philippe says:

My favourite quote from this moron: “and in a few instances there may have been malfeasance by one party or the other.”

Huuuuuuuuh? One party OR THE OTHER?

    These guys are hilarious.

  4. AP says:

So here is the Harper Government’s response to the growing RoboCon scandal.

“It is important to remember who is throwing these unfounded smears around: The Liberal Party of Canada. And now the Liberals have the temerity to say that the Conservatives have … blah, blah, blah, blah, misery … blah, blah, blah … RAE DAYS!! RAE DAYS!! R-A-E D-A-Y-S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And to make matters even worse the Liberals have always been against any measures that would … blah, blah, blah … victims of crime! Blah, blah, child molesters … while we in this party … blah, blah, blah … tough on crime!!
The people of Canada know that the Liberals invented vote-gathering tricks!! They have been supported in this by, blah, blah, blah … Liberal, judges, bureaucrats, elites, media … blah, blah, blah … they hate … our history, blah, blah … the Queen … blah and Conservative values!!!!
