“”Media thesis: Since Michael Ignatieff ran such an utterly brilliant campaign in last election only robocalls can explain his loss.”(Gerry Nicholls)”
Fair comment.
Actually, does anyone remember how the polls were pointing towards a minority government for the Conservatives, and it was a big surprise that they got a majority?
Even days before the election, Conservatives were saying that a majority was out of the Conservatives reach…. but they were hopeful because of a superior “get out the vote” system.
Yes Sharonapple88, I remember those polls and my surprise at the majority outcome. there seemed to be a major flood of vote suppression calls in the few days before May 2nd.
I think Warren mentioned in a news piece recently that the most astonishing part about this is that they would have won without it.
We are not talking though about whether Harper would have won more seats than the other parties….
Remember how worried Harper was about another minority government and the threat of a coalition. This was an election that if he didn’t get a majority he was out of power and everyone on his team knew it was a fight for survival, nothing could be held back. He mentioned this at every opportunity, his whole campaign was majority focused. This is why they used robo-calls.
