Trudeau Theory

Spoke to a friend this morning who has known, and worked with, many Trudeaus:

“I knew he’d win. Those guys never do anything unless they know in advance that they’ll win.”

  1. Geoffrey Laxton says:

Sounds straight out of the Art of War.

  2. William says:

I guess Pierre Poutine was unavailable to send Justin to the wrong venue.

  3. Philippe says:

It was hilarious to see one Sun TV Con after another proclaiming Trudeau dead before arrival. He’s a pretty boy, too skinny, too weak, bad frame… the Con was a Karate black belt, former military, Tyson-like build.. blah blah… He sure shut them up. I got a good kick out of that.

    • ottawacon says:

Conversely, I did not see a single story that noted Justin has been an amateur boxer since high school

      • Pat says:

CBC interviewed them both and Justing talked about boxing… also… before the fight on SUN they interviewed Justin and he said he had been training since his early 20s to stay in shape…

  4. james curran says:

It’s what he’s going to do to Conservatives accross the country when he becomes leader….knock ’em out.

  5. WesternGrit says:

Technically Senators ARE MPs… They are all Members of Parliament. House of Commons MPs and Senate/Upper House MPs (so you’d be right on your first shot at that)…

  6. WesternGrit says:

This reminds me of that young guy waterskiing? Remember? He became PM. He also had a penchant for beating people up…

  7. kitte says:

Best news ever!!! And Justin’s response to the media after the fight was classic of our future PM. And we can forget Canada’s present period of no PM – just thugs occupation of the House.

  8. Patchouli says:

That guy may be right, but all it means is that Trudeau understood what it would take to win, and strove toward it. You know, strategery. He worked hard for that win — it took brains and physical prowess — and he deserves to feel like a real victor today. Brazeau was an jerk, and that makes Justin’s victory all the sweeter.

  9. Lance says:

So picking his opponents wisely, then.

  10. Lance says:

Any of you watch that series The Game Of Thrones? Reminds me a lot about politics, the cutthroat aspect to it. One dialogue segment reminds me of this fight, very riveting stuff –

    EDDARD STARK
You’re armour; not a scratch on it.

    JAIME LANNISTER
I know… People have been swinging at me for years and they always seem to miss.

    EDDARD STARK
You’ve chosen your opponents wisely then.

    JAIME LANNISTER
I have a knack for it.

    • Jon Powers says:

For the record, the Lannister’s are all Liberals.

      • Lance says:

So what you’re saying is that they’re rich elitists? πŸ˜‰

No, I would actually liken the Liberals much more to the Targaryens – once rich, powerful and in charge for so long of the Seven Kingdoms; but now poor, bereft of power and influence, and with a leader (before Viserys got knocked off by) that is going to take them absolutley no where.

    • William says:

Flaherty is just smaller than Tyrion Lannister

      • Jon Powers says:

Nice. See, if I were a Liberal, I’d start referring to Flaherty as “The Imp”. My gift to my Liberal friends. Hear me roar.

        • Lance says:

Ha, Good anology. At one point Tyrion was the Hand Of The King. And we both know what they say about the King’s Hand – “the King shits, and the Hand wipes. πŸ˜‰

  11. Philippe says:

This has convinced me – Trudeau for leadership!

  12. King Murdoch says:

I was speaking to members at a Legion near my cottage this weekend, about the fight. Actually I was listening- in on their conversations. It was a hot topic. My cottage is close to Ottawa, giving the topic more of a proximity affect.

Their general response was-” They looked foolish and their time would be better spent doing their jobs and that’s what we pay them for”.

  13. Kre8tv says:

Only a fool seeks out a fight that they can’t win. But even then, it takes real confidence and self-assuredness to get into the ring like that. I can’t help but be reminded of the docupic, When We Were Kings: smaller boxer against a giant who had a habit of knocking out his opponents with a punch or two. Smaller boxer used his brains over brawn and stunned everyone with his decisive win.

    • Realist says:

When We Were Kings is a really great doc, and everyone should see it. It was almost enough to make me like boxing. Almost.

    • Conservative Socialist says:

I like “When We Were Kings” except for the way they portrayed the fight. They made it look like Ali was being pummeled for eight rounds and then after Foreman punched himself out, Ali on the verge of death pulls out a win.

The real fight (and it can easily be found on Youtube now) showed Ali dominating Foreman after the first round. The ‘rope-a-dope’ was just Ali delivering vicious counterpunches. He made Foreman look like an amateur.

The rope-a-dope is a ridiculous urban legend that has been hyped by a lazy sports press.

  14. james Smith says:

Here’s a short vid of the fight:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nG_Nwp0wZc0

  15. Pat Heron says:

Are we forgetting that his was about raising money for cancer research? It was great of both of these men to put themselves on the line and risk failure and more. They entertained the audience. I for one am grateful to both of them. We all won!

  16. Riaz Khan says:

He could be a serious contender for the leadership of the Liberal party in few years. All he has to do is to pick a cause, stop making silly statements, embrace Canada’s natural resources, reject the politics of division and learn how to behave and sound like a true statesmen. Trust me, the world I travel, we need people who are leaders and not divisors and tyrants.

  17. J.A. says:

People, including the handsome Senator, are talking about a fight again next year. Dan Gardner on CTV suggested Pat Martin versus Dean Del Mastro!!

    • james Smith says:

I think a bigger money raiser would be for a match between the two Tory Sumos:
      Duffy & Ford
I’m sure most of their base would like to see these two in their swaddling clothes

      • MCBellecourt says:

ew..I’ll pass, thanks. Bad enough seeing Del Mastro in the House spewing garbage out of his pie hole.

      • pomojen says:

Frankly, I would pay generously to AVOID seeing those two in swaddling clothes. Thanks for the nightmares, dude.

  18. bluegreenblogger says:

I can hardly believe how many comments. I guess Politics really is theatre. Am I supposed to believe that victory in a boxing match somehow qualifies Justin Trudea for, well, anything whatsoever…..

  19. Cynical says:

    Bard vs Lard

  20. Neil says:

I actually went to a party at the Calgary Sun to watch the Fight. The smug assurance of the audience that Justin was going to cry like a little girl was astounding. At the end of the first round they were so happy. When Justin won I thought I actually saw some heads explode. That weird woman who is the ethical oil spokesthingy was stomping around like someone had shut down the oil sands!

  21. Nic Coivert says:

It was a pleasure to be reminded of what victory feels like, Thanks Justin.

And speaking of exploding heads, how about Harper losing to the son of Pierre Eliot Trudeau.

  22. Tim Sullivan says:

Now, let’s put Warren into a boxing ring with Harper and have them each write a book. See who completes it faster.
