99 vs. 1

I cannot tell you how happy I was to read the following on the front page of this morning’s Globe and Mail:

President Barack Obama wants to shift the focus of the election campaign away from health care and unemployment to a debate about income inequality, betting voters will back his call for tax increases on the rich.

Mr. Obama moved on Monday to revive his push for higher tax rates on the wealthiest Americans, making the proposal a key plank of his re-election strategy. It marked a new offensive in his attempt to cast Republican nominee Mitt Romney as a ruthless corporate raider whose policies would protect the rich.

Why am I happy? Well, because that is the central thesis of this book, which happens to be going on sale in the U.S. of A. in September.  Sample quote:

What, then, should be the alternative narrative that Fukuyama and others call for?

Jean Chrétien, who crafted winning campaign narratives at the national level for forty years—and won three back-to-back majorities—agrees that the best narrative for progressives is the one that could be seen in virtually every North American and European city in the summer and fall of 2011: the 1 percent versus the 99 percent…

“The Occupy kids out on Wall Street knew that, too. They were a great example of that. [Occupy] was impressive—some of these kids were saying the same thing Warren Buffett said. Buffett said that he was paying less taxes than his secretary, and he shouldn’t be.” Chrétien pauses a last time. ‘This thing, the 99 percent thing, can become an issue in the next election. It can be very big. And I believe this is what Obama is going to say.”

Apparently so! The old guy nails it again!

Too bad McGuinty put up such a huge fight against the NDP over taxing the wealthy. Did you play a role in helping him come around?

  2. JamesHalifax says:

Warren, bear in mind that the folks who actually showed up at these “occupy” movements were mainly unionists, layabouts, homeless folks, and marxists/socialists.

I’d think the NDP would have more to gain than the Liberals.

    • Kelly says:

You attended the demonstrations right? Or did you just read about them in the Sun? You’re rather out of touch. When you have paper pusher managers taking home millions and shoving around guys who actually do the work and make the products, forcing them to take 50% wage cuts and losing their homes, eventually the loudmouth paper pusher bosses get their asses kicked — in the streets and at the polls. It happens every single time. Sometimes it takes awhile, but eventually it happens.

      • JamesHalifax says:

I’m sorry Kelly…I didn’t go to any actual “occupy” protests that you seem to have attended. I was too busy at work. You should try it some time.

Frankly, I couldn’t be bothered to surround myself with the smell of unwashed bodies, vomit, urine, feces, and marijuana smoke. I preferred to watch it from the evening news. I was especially fond of the marxists chanting along with the unions….that was interesting.

As for the folks making millions of dollars…..don’t knock it til you’ve tried it. Here’s what it will take.

You’ll have to be willing to work harder than you currently do.
You’ll have to learn something other than what you read in pamphlets, or the marxist literature you picked up at your particular occupy event.
You’ll have to forego the parties with your friends, the drinking, the pot smoking……and sit in the office or boardroom for 16 hours a day…

In fact Kelly….if you want to make a lot of $$…you’ll need to change everthing you currently do, and learn eveything you currently do not. For the most part, rich people are rich for a reason. It’s not always who you know, or how big your trust fund is. Believe it or not, most people who are wealthy have actually earned it.

As for those who actually make the products…..if they want to be bettr off, they need to learn how to invent or create a product that someone wants. It’s the brainpower and ideas that make one wealthy…..screwing something together or working on an assembly line is not difficult nor challenging.

        • VC says:

“It’s the brainpower and ideas that make one wealthy” … obviously you don’t understand free market economics. If it were the case, the world would be full of the deserving rich, and free of wealthy idiots. But keep peddling that supply-side voodoo economics and throw away ideas like demand and consumption.

          • JamesHalifax says:

VC…..clearly, you are from the marxist economics side of the house.

            Here’s a hint…..

If you can meet a demand….you can become wealthy. (ie. Oil, pharma, technology, etc.)

Face if VC, the free market has done more to improve the living standards of people than any other method. Capitalism works. For some (the creative and hard working)..it works better than others’.

Go back and read your communist manifesto. Clearly, you believe in it, more than you believe your own eyes.

        • Jon Adams says:

For someone *so* busy at work, you sure seem to have a lot of time to huff and puff and browbeat anyone you disagree with and post links totally unrelated to the topic at hand, and that’s just on this site.

    • Kelly says:

As for the NDP gaining more, you might be correct. The problem with the Liberals is that in many people’s minds they are still equated with Bay Street. The Cons are actually much bigger friends of Bay Street, but they’ve managed to snooker enough people into voting against their own self interest. Eventually reality bites, though and then it bites hard.

    • smelter rat says:

That doesn’t describe any of the folks I met at occupy sites in Boston, Winnipeg or St. John’s. Perhaps you’re just stereotyping?

      • The Doctor says:

I walked through the Occupy Vancouver site virtually every day it was up. The crowd there was largely comprised of:

        – homeless people, including a lot of street youth and addicts (thus the fact that someone overdosed on site was not surprising)
        – hard-core left-wing activists, including student activists
        – labour union people (although they tended not to live on site)

The crowd also got noticeably “edgier” as time wore on. The fact that free food was on offer probably had something to do with that, i.e., obviously the homeless, street people and addicts were attracted to that aspect, and who can blame them.

        • JamesHalifax says:

Hey Doc…..one of the original organizers of the “occupy” events stated on TV that the “movement” had been hijacked by BIG LABOUR…to fight the BIG CORPORATIONS. In effect, the occupy crowd lost their message, when they lost control.

Also, it was reported that the police in the cities were directing all of the homeless, the shiftless, and the junkies to the camps with promises of free food, booze, pot, etc.

          Pretty clever.

Keep all the useless in one spot.

      • JamesHalifax says:

        Smelter rat…..

If instead of running around North American looking for a protest that will accept you, you were instead working…perhaps you too could climb out of the 99%.

(by the way, the 99% for the most part, work and pay taxes……only about 10% of that 99% of chronic whiners and complainers tend to prefer protests over work)

I’m sure you picked up a lot of pamphlets in your travels. No doubt you walked the entire way….as burning gas in a vehicle of some sort simply puts money in the pockets of those big evil oil companies.

    • Nic Coivert says:

Yes JamesHalifax they certainly aren’t the sort that have ample leisure to troll sites like these discouraging progressive politics where ever it may spring forth.

      • JamesHalifax says:

How could an “occupyer” find the time to visit any sites Nic? They’re too busy smoking pot, shooting heroin, shitting on cop cars (when they aren’t burning them) and smashing windows.

        Sorry..I’ll just stick to typing.

        • Nic Coivert says:

Hating seems to be up there in things you do to, JamesHalifax.

          • JamesHalifax says:

I actually don’t hate anyone or anything.

You simply choose to categorize me because you disagree. That’s ok…I don’t hate you for it.

(sorry..small fib. I hate it when people butt in line)

  3. Michael Behiels says:

The fraudulent 1%ters and especially the fraudulent 0.01 %ters on Wall Street and in the corrupt Financial Institutes that feed off the middle class and the poor walked away from their misdeeds without nary a penalty.

Obama had no support from Congress and Senate to make them pay and pay big time.

In the Fall election President Obama can win big by taking on Greedy Corporate moguls.

The inequality in America is far worse than in many third world countries. Visit it and you will see it all first hand.

    • JamesHalifax says:

Unfortunately, Mike, you are correct. The folks responsible for this meltdown mess got away with a lot. However, these same folks you write about happen to provide Millions of dollars to the democratic party as well as the Republicans.

I’m afraid big money…buys silence as well as candidates.

As for income inequality, it will always be with us, no matter how progressive you claim a country to be. Poverty is a relative thing. A poverty stricken person in Canada can only afford a desktop computer and only one flat screen TV…..which, would be considered wealthy in some crap hole in Uganda.

  4. Ted says:

Also remember that Jean Chrétien’s majorities were aided, if not wholly attributable in certain elections, to a divided right. With a divided left I’m not sure narrative matters all that much unless your narrative includes a push to bring the federalist opposition parties together.

    • Iris Mclean says:

      Yup.

    • Shawn says:

I find this reasoning interesting. The Liberals seemed to do just fine with a “divided left” for several decades.

      • The Doctor says:

Yes, but it’s important to note that for most of those decades, the Liberals could count on getting lots and lots of seats out of Quebec. Then along came Meech Lake and the rise of the BQ etc. That’s part of the LPC’s problem IMO — it took its Quebec dominance for granted and assumed that it could continue to win federal elections without lifting a finger (except perhaps a middle one) in Western Canada. Times changed, and the LPC did not. The coalition that Harper has stitched together — essentially Ontario and the West — makes a lot of sense. The NDP’s electoral math also looks viable right now.

  5. Martin Gomez says:

Today’s Canada is the best country to live in in the World’s history. The majority of Canadians are the 1% compared to the rest of the World. To me it seems a little ridiculous for North Americans to be lumping themselves in with the 1%.
Most of us have 3 meals a day, a living space we can call our own, health care, education, running water, electricity, flushing toilets, etc…things that too many of us take for granted.
For example, most Canadians can afford to go or know a family member or a friend to a cottage in the summertime on a lake.
How many average persons living in African, Asia, South America, or the Middle East have that opportunity? How many of those places even have a lake that you can swim and fish in?
While unjust wealth should be challenged, others in the World may see the average Canadian’s wealth as unjust too…

    • JamesHalifax says:

Martin, there is no use making sense on this post……there are too many complainers. In fact, if some of these whiners were to win a million dollars on the lottery….they’d complain if someone else won $2Million and they would demand their “fair” share.

That’s what socialists do…..they want what they haven’t earned, and what they have no right to. They think they can spend your money better than you can, but this is simply code for “I want it, therefore I deserve it…it’s my human right”.

Effort and work have nothing to do with success in the “occupier” mind. They see someone who is more successful than they are…and assume it’s due to some type of greed or corruption. You can’t talk sense to them.

  6. Nurie Jahangeer says:

    As someone who is on the left-wing of the LPC and the OLP, I believe that while PM Jean Chrétien was truly one of our greatest leaders who presided over a decade or more of economic growth, low unemployment, and overall prosperity;
I did not support all of his socio-economic policies. Namely, the Chrétien and Martin Liberals cutting federal transfer payments and also getting out of the public housing business hurt many people. It also gave justification in the eyes
of many here in Ontario to vote for the likes of Mike Harris and Mel Lastman, who claimed that their own cuts to
social programmes were the result of not having enough funding from the feds. I was also disappointed that
PM Chrétien did not scrap NAFTA, as per his 1993 election promise. Lastly, Chrétien and Martin embracing
neo-liberalism complete with privatizations of Canadian National Railway in 1995, were view by traditional
social-liberal immigrants who backed PMs Trudeau and Turner.

I still vote for both the LPC and OLP, and most likely will continue to do so. However, I believe that the next
leader of the LPC must shake off this neo-liberal experiment, which as primarily catered to a bunch of former
hippies who were the backbone of Trudeaumania in the 1960’s and 1970’s, but then who became the baby boomers
yuppies who became selfish, greedy and materialistic in the 1980’s and 1990’s, and who began to want tax cuts,
big suburban homes, SUV’s and a more free market economy. Just like the socialist parties of Europe who in the
1990’s abandoned the post-war social-democracy and democratic-socialism, in favour of the Tony Blair model
known as the “Third Way” from the mid-1940’s to the early 1990’s. The European socialist parties are moving back
to the social-democratic, democratic socialist and even eco-socialist models now that Generations X and Y are gaining a foothold. The LPC and the OLP must likewise return back to the social-liberals of PMs Pearson, Trudeau and Turner. Specifically, higher taxation which will be used to invest in job creation as opposed to this free market bullshit, economic nationalism as opposed to privatization of crown corporations, trade protectionism as opposed to free trade, and
Keynesian market interventionism as opposed to this flirtation with Laissez-faire economics.

Clinton, another baby boomer, betrayed the social-liberals of FDR, JFK, LBJ and Carter in favour of neo-liberalism
which saw him ally with the Republicans in Congress and savagely attack welfare recipients. For all for those right-wing
morons who accuse Clinton of being a “socialist”, he was actually more of a libertarian in my opinion. Obama likewise
is a neo-liberal. The so-called “Obamacare” is a taxpayer subsidy for HMO’s and pharmaceutical giants. Its more like
fascist corporatism than the “socialism” he is accused of by all of the ignorant, common, uneducated, low class,
blue collar, redneck WHITE TRASH at the Tea Party rallies, most of whom have a Grade 8 education at best.

So in sum, I would trade Harper for Chrétien and Martin any day. Likewise, McGunity looks much better than Harris
and Clinton/Obama are much better than Bush. But that still does not mean that the social-liberal core of the LPC,
OLP and the USA Democrats have been sold out to bankers and insurance corporations. McGunity has de-listed more
OHIP services than Harris did for God’s sake!.

I personally wish to see Red Toryism come back to the CPC, social-liberalism come back to the LPC/OLP and
even the NDP could use more social-democracy. I want to see neo-conservatism (Bush, Harper, Harris, Hudak,
Ford et al), neo-liberalism (Clinton, Obama, Chrétien and Martin) and the Third way (Blair, Brown, et al) coincidence
to the dustbin of history. I will probably get pulled over the coals by your other readers for the following comments
but it is no coincidence that neo-conservatism, neo-liberalism and the third way which began in the 1980’s and peaked
in the 1990’s, followed the overall trajectory of the baby bombers (those born between 1946 to 1965), who are the
most spoiled, over privileged, selfish, self-centred, greedy, vain, arrogant, and hedonistic generation of human beings
to ever walk on God’s green earth.

The best thing that both the Liberal Party of Canada, Ontario Liberal Party and United States Democratic Party could
do now is to MOVE LEFTWARDS!.

You know its odd…when I speak to Liberals I know…those aged 40 and younger, those aged 65 and older, visible minorities, people of colour, recent immigrants, people with disabilities, renters, urban dwellers and those who use
public transit all seem to desire the old social-liberalism of the post-war decades. It is, with a few exceptions here
and there, those Liberals I have talked too, who are rougly between the ages of 40 to 65 who are highly assimilated,
uni-lingual, unhypanated, Canadian born and bred, propertied, car owning, suburbanite WHITE PEOPLE in English Canada who tend to support the low tax, free market, flexiable mortage, maxed out credit careds, materialtic consumtpion, rootless, cultureless, cosmopolitan, individualistic bullshit. This ilk of mangiacake Liberal seems to love the economic policies of Harper but still self-identify with the social policies of Trudeau. In other words, your typical North American
    Baby Boomber.

    • The Doctor says:

Nurie said mangiacake! Everyone have a drink!

    • JamesHalifax says:

Actually, Nurie, the folks whom you describe above didn’t become greedy, selfish, or materialistic. They simply grew up. It’s easy to be a “counter-revolutionary” when you haven’t achieved anything, or earned anything. Once a person gets a job, a career, or works and makes accomplishments, they want to protect it. That’s human nature. Believe it or not, a lot of people who work 8 to 12 hours a day at a job…..don’t feel the slightest inclination to give a big chunk of it to people who choose not to.

I’m sure that many of today’s “occupiers’ once they actually achieve or earn anything…will feel the same way. In fact, once you actually earn something on your own…you may feel that way too.

  7. Clive says:

Because that whole tax the hell out of the middle class and entitle everyone else to free everything has done so well for Greece, and Spain, and Italy, and the UK… twice in my lifetime (IMF bailout in ’78 and bankrupt again now). Envy and something for nothing might win elections but it destroys economies.

    • JamesHalifax says:

      Give it up Clive….

Many of the folks on here are so convinced of their own “progressive-ness” they don’t feel the need to worry about, nor understand anything about economics. In fact, their idea of economics is simply, “You have more than me……give it here!!”

The fact that they haven’t earened it, matters not a whit.

If the NDP or the lefty Liberals ever get put in charge of the public purse, you had better hope your wealth is tied up in land. It’s a lot harder for the taxman to take that away from you, but given Mulcairs comments about resource development in a province he knows nothing about…..you may still be at risk.

  8. Ronald O'Dowd says:

    Warren,

Hate to differ with the sharpest political mind in Canada (Chrétien) but this is clearly a wedge issue — and as Jamieson used to say: that dog don’t hunt! Sure, people in the U.S. want the top tier to pay more income taxes but that is not really the driving force in presidential elections.

Now, let me put my ass further out there and suggest that the election in November will not be decided per se on the state of the economy. IMHO, it will be decided strictly on the basis of turnout — and if the Republican machine is as formidable as I expect, that does not bode well for President Obama in flat to worsening economic times.

  9. JamesHalifax says:

Obama is his own worst enemy. He still doesn’t understand that most people enjoy a good speech once in a while (that someone else wrote by the way) but at the end of the day they want more than words. They want actual results.

    “Change you can believe in”

    “HOPE”…..

Yep…how much food has that put on the table.

  10. JamesHalifax says:

Warren, on a slightly different topic.

Do you ever sign any of these books sold online?

  11. JamesHalifax says:

Hmmm….what kind of people join the “occupy” movement? What do they do when they aren’t protesting something or other?

Oh…here we go. Found an answer:

  12. JamesHalifax says:

It would seem the “occupy” folks actually do follow their beliefs. If someone has something you want…..you just take it, regardless of whether the other party who actually owns it wants to give it up or not

  13. JamesHalifax says:

    Oh look….Mulcair-nomics in action.

    http://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2012/07/the-scariest-chart-in-europe-just-got-even-scarier/259625/

Ok, Warren…I’ll stop with the links now.

  14. Philip says:

The 99% vs 1% message is particularly effective because it is true. It’s also easily observable to pretty much everyone with access to the internet or basic cable. Observing the wealthiest 1% of the world, is a lot like observing a brand new species, one whose motivations, needs and ways of thinking are so alien to the rest of us as to be almost unfathomable. Which is why the message is so effective. The 1% isn’t us, will never be us and absolutely will never have our best interests in mind. No matter how hard you, as an individual work, no matter how frugal you are, no matter how many canny investments you make and no matter how many Lotto Max tickets you buy, you will never be in the 1%. Ever.

  15. JamesHalifax says:

Philip, instead of being envious of the 1%, why not try to achieve something that puts you in the top 30%? They do pretty well also. The 1% you seem to detest so much, and have such little respect for are actually responsible for much of the wealth and employment of the bottom 99%. Frankly, the whole 1% thing is simply a ruse in any event. You will always have the very rich in a free market society, as not eveyone has the same ability, skill or talent. Some have more…some have less.

Let’s apply your logic to something else…say….art.

We’ll start with Michealangelo, Da Vinci, Reubens, Beethoven, etc…etc..etc…

Now, say the above artists are the 1% in their respective times……..suddenly, you have a group of folks in the street complaining that only the above artists are doing very well. The other 99%, have been making crayon drawings, spraying graffitti on the walls, and generally making “art” that no one seems to want to buy.

Are you saying that the artists named above should be on the same level as the guy spraying graffitti on your garage?

The point is this. People who are most able, the most creative, and usually the most intelligent, tend to be better at making money that people with no drive, no talent, no marketable skills (hello Womyn’s studies majors!!). One shouldn’t be surprised that some do better than others. Enough with the jealousy….just satisfy yourself with the fact that the 1% probably pay more taxes in a year than you make in your entire working lifetime. They contribute far more than most……..and still you whine.

    • Philip says:

How can anyone be jealous of or detest mathematics? There will always be a global wealthiest 1% just as there will always be a poorest 1% of the world’s population. It’s simple mathmatics. My point was that the experiences and lives of the wealthiest 1% are so far removed from the rest of the world’s population that there is no common ground. There simply can’t be. It doesn’t make them evil per say but it does mean that their interests and motivations are different. I don’t need to be in the top whatever percentage of the world’s wealthiest people to be happy. I learned a long time ago that contentment comes from being happy with what you have, not being preoccupied with the things you don’t. You have no business telling anyone else what makes them successful as a human being, James. Stop making assumptions, creating pointless strawman arguements and insulting those who dare to disagree with your biases.

At least you didn’t call me a coward, so perhaps this is progress of a sort.

      • JamesHalifax says:

        I don’t think you’re a coward philip….

I just think you’re wrong. I’ve met a lot of rich folks who would be in the 1%, and guess what….with the exception of their wealth, they are a lot like you or me. True, they don’t have many worries, as money provides a nice security blanket, but they are not some group of greedy, selfish folks who don’t give a damn about those who aren’t rich. Some folks who resent the top earners prefer to believe the wealth was created through fraud, corruption or greed…they rarely consider that today’s 1%’s were yesterday’s 99%’ers. If you don’t feel that way, good for you.
As for the lives of the top 1% being so far removed from everyone else…that may be true in the sense that they have no worries about paying the rent, or supporting their families, but they do love their families, and they do love this country as much as the next person. They are just Canadians with a lot of money…that’s all.
Frankly, many of the Wealthiest Canadians give quite a bit back to society voluntarily, not just through taxes, and not just for the write-off it can provide. One simply has to see the hospitals or Universities with Wings named after benefactors.

The rich will always be with us. Thank god for that.

      • Philip says:

I make no moral judgement on the 1%, James. I was simply stating a fact. The facts say that the very wealthy are getting even wealthier and everyone else, yes James, everyone else is not. This is not a moral judgement on any individual just an examination of the evidence in front of us of family income and wage statistics since the 1970’s.

You may be content to create a fantasy world in which the noble ultra-rich of the world shower their blessings on those beneath them but it’s simply not true. The 1% have no obligations, created by tradition, culture or legislation to the other 99% of the world. There is no “security blanket”. There is a complete absence of any sort of financial worry for their entire lifetime, the lifetimes of their children, their grandchildren and their great-grandchildren. There is no “rent”, there is no “supporting their families”. Again, not a moral judgement but a simple statement of how it is.
You seem to want to turn the ultra-rich into a slightly wealthier version of yourself, James but they aren’t. Sadly, that says more about what you crave than what is real.

  16. Nurie Jahangeer says:

    JamesHalifax,

You quite obviously are a highly assimilated, uni-lingual, unhyphenated, Canadian born and bred, WHITE ANGLO SAXON PROTESTANT who lives in hideously WASP-ish Halifax. I suspect you very rarely, if ever, encounter the multiracial, multiethnic, multilingual, multifaith, cosmopolitan, diverse, globalized realities of Toronto, Vancouver, or Montreal.

Your whole “grow up and earn your keep bullshit” is typical WASP thinking. The rabidly individualistic, unfettered greed, casino capitalism of the Reform Party of Canada…*cough*…Canadian Alliance Party..*cough*…Conservative Party of Canada primarily appeals to highly assimilated, unilingual, unhyphenated, Canadian born and bred, fucking WASP’s.

Despite the Conservative majority last year, which was exclusively the result of a divided opposition and a weak Liberal leadership, the vast majority of visible minorities (non-Whites) such as Chinese-Canadians, Indo-Canadians, Afro-Canadians, Tamil-Canadians, Pakistani-Canadians, Persian-Canadians, Jamaican-Canadians, Trini-Canadians, Arabs-Canadians, ect. (who currently constitute over 20% of the total Canadian population) are still overwhelmingly vote for the Liberals or NDP. Likewise, the vast majority of invisible minorities (non-WASP White Europeans) such as Italian-Canadians, Greek-Canadians, Portuguese-Canadians, Spanish-Canadians, Russian-Canadians, Serbian-Canadians, Armenian-Canadians, French-Canadians, and Quebecois (who are easily another 30% of more of the total Canadian population) still overwhelmingly vote for the Liberals or NDP. White Latin Catholic Quebec votes NDP, Liberal or Bloc Quebecois. The Tories are virtually non-existent there. Toronto and Vancouver and both majority non-White and contain no Tory seats.

Canada as a whole is officially projected to be over 50% non-White by the year 2050 owing to very low (well below replacement levels of fertility) among White Canadians coupled with very high (well above replacement levels of fertility) for non-Whites coupled with mostly non-White immigration. The Conservatives, Liberals, NDP, Greens, and Bloc Quebecois ALL support an annual level of 250,000 mostly non-White immigrants each and every year.

So as you can see, White boy, your frugal, sour, dour, mean minded, spiteful, materialistic, selfish, individualistic, Anglo Saxon capitalism and your Protestant Calvinist work ethnic, will soon be a powerless, outvoted, outnumbered and out manned demographic. Your tax dollars will continue to pay for welfare, EI, ESL lessons, job placements, public housing, and other settlement services for immigrants and visible minorities whether you like it or not, WASP boy. You will also continue to use your tax dollars to paymore per capita in Quebec in healthcare and education transfers than what the rest of Canada gets whether you like it or not. Conservatives, Liberals, NDP, Bloc Quebecois and Greens all bend over backward for
Quebec, and that it going to continue, Mangiacake. Aboriginals will also continue to require your tax dollars whether you like it or not, don’t worry my penny pinching friend, just think of the very little the Aboriginals get as a blood tax for the genocidal crimes of your White Anglo Saxon Protestant forefathers.

    • JamesHalifax says:

You got the white part correct…but I’m an athiest. I no longer live in Halifax, but I have travelled extensively and have met every colour, creed, or religion you can shake a stick at. People are people…I don’t care what they look like….as long as they aren’t trying to foist their religion or politics upon me.
As for you, well, you’re post makes it clear what you are.

      Envious.

As for the fertility rate…..Mark Steyn beat you to it, though I suspect that’s where you grabbed your numbers from. As for my tax dollars paying for welfare, EI, public housing….I do that now, so I won’t be in for any surprises in the future. Speaking of aboriginals….you just described a good portion of my family relations. Of course, my aboriginal kinfolk don’t live on reserves, and they even pay their own taxes and hold their own jobs. I’m hoping that more of their bretheren follow suit…after all, there’s nothing better we white and native folk like better than supporting someone who comes to Canada from a shit-hole in Asia and complains about it.

      Well done. 🙂

    • The Doctor says:

“Despite the Conservative majority last year, which was exclusively the result of a divided opposition and a weak Liberal leadership, the vast majority of visible minorities (non-Whites) such as Chinese-Canadians, Indo-Canadians, Afro-Canadians, Tamil-Canadians, Pakistani-Canadians, Persian-Canadians, Jamaican-Canadians, Trini-Canadians, Arabs-Canadians, ect. (who currently constitute over 20% of the total Canadian population) are still overwhelmingly vote for the Liberals or NDP. Likewise, the vast majority of invisible minorities (non-WASP White Europeans) such as Italian-Canadians, Greek-Canadians, Portuguese-Canadians, Spanish-Canadians, Russian-Canadians, Serbian-Canadians, Armenian-Canadians, French-Canadians, and Quebecois (who are easily another 30% of more of the total Canadian population) still overwhelmingly vote for the Liberals or NDP.”

Nurie, these statements of yours are flatly untrue. The Conservatives in fact were very competitive among visible and ethnic minority voters in the last federal election. You’re living in the 1970s and 1980s with that kind of talk. The days when the LPC owned the immigrant vote at the expense of the Tories are long gone.

Oh yeah, and Nurie said mangiacake again! Everybody drink a shooter!

      • JamesHalifax says:

Hey Doc……I think it’s clear by the hysterics, that Nurie is too far gone. Facts or accuracy will never cloud his beliefs.

  17. Nurie Jahangeer says:

Even Conservatives such as French President Sarkozy and German Chancellor Merkle, who both lead G8 economies, both attacked “Anglo-Saxon capitalism” a few years ago publicly during the economic crisis.

Despite attempts for decades on the part of the Republicans to reach out to visible minorities, over 90% of Blacks, 75% of Hispanics and 2/3 of Asians vote Democrat each and every time. bunch will be reelected by the huge and souring Black and Hispanic vote alone, no matter what a bunch of fucking White Americans think or want. Black and Hispanics both have very high and surging fertility levels, coupled with massive non-White immigration into the USA. White Americans are a aging, declining, dying population who are well below replacement levels of fertility, yet over 90% of those who vote for the GOP are White Americans. The USA is 60% White now and will be majority non-White by the year 2042, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. California, Texas, New Mexico, Hawaii are all majority non-White. New York state, Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Colorado, New Jersey and Illinois will be by the year 2020.

The GOP and the Tea Party want to abolish progressive income taxes?. They want to abolish affirmative action, welfare, public housing, taxpayer funded urban job creation plans?. LOL!. LMAO!. Well, Yankee Whitey in the GOP better think twice, unless he wants an explosion of race war, riots, and societal unrest in the USA. You Mangaicake, want privatized healthcare in Canada?. Deep cuts to EI and CPP?. You want less immigration?. You want deep cuts to welfare, EI, ESL, and other services for everyone, which particularly effects immigrants?. LMAO!. LOL!. Well, can you say Quebec separation in such a case?. You can kiss the Tory majority, which took decades to build, and which was mostly carved out of a few very key non-White majority and foreign born majorities in places such as Brampton, Mississuga, Richmond Hill and similar areas in the Greater Vancouver Area, goodbye!. If racist, xenophobic, Islamophobic, Ameri-KKK-an ass kissing and Republi-KLAN Conservatives so much as DARE to fuck with the immigration levels and funding, those areas will return to the Liberals at the speed of light. Is that blackmail?. Call it what you will ass hole, but the only relevant point here is what WHITE MALES like YOU do not exclusively hold the power in this country anymore.

Do you have any idea how much WASP economics with its lust for deep tax cuts, corporate ass kissing, downsizing, off shoring, and outsourcing is fucking hated by most of the rest of humanity?. Quebec tv shows routinely speak of “Anglo-Saxon blockheads”.

    • JamesHalifax says:

Well of course they attacked it you dope. Do you think the Europeans, given what they have done to themselves will ever take any blame? I think we can both agree that it was the USA and Wall street that screwed everyone into this recession, but I think it would also be fair to point out that many European countries screwed themselves with their economic policies. They can’t blame that on Anglo-Saxons, though I’m sure they’ll try. If not…..just point to Greece.

As for the folks who vote Democrat…quell surpris. Imagine that…poor folks voting for a Party that promises the moon and stars……for free. That explains Obamacare. On you go about the fertility rate again…..but what you fail to mention is that most of these non-white babies…are growing up without a daddy, but at least they come with 4 to 8 other half-brothers or sisters. As you may be aware…that doesn’t make for a very secure society. Frankly, I think the Hispanic vote will turn very shortly once they realize they actually have more in common with Republicans.

As for the rest of your pathetic screed…….I’d call you a racist, but in Canada…only whitey can wear that label.

Now Nurie……One question. During this time you have spent complaining about whitey and all the things they have done…who’s been working the phones at the call centre?

      • Philip says:

        I am a mangicake!

      • JamesHalifax says:

Thanks, Nurie…what you lack in accuracy or complexity…you make up in entertainment value. Given they level of hysterics in your post, I start to suspect you are some sort of plant or rabble rouser….

I don’t personally give a damn about someone’s race….but you seem to spend an inordinate amount of time thinking about it.
Usually, when someone writes a post I will respond in kind, addressing each of their points. However, given that you seem to have run out of talking points and are now on “repeat” mode…I have already addressed them. Frankly, given the hystrionics and just plain hyperbole of your post, I don’t suspect you would really pay them much attention in any event.

Lastly, I don’t think you really pity is the reason you detest the White anglo saxons…..I think instead, your bitterness stems from the fact that you are not one.

        Suck it up princess 🙂

  18. Nurie Jahangeer says:

By the way, that money that you say “Once a person gets a job, a career, or works and makes accomplishments, they want to protect it. That’s human nature. Believe it or not, a lot of people who work 8 to 12 hours a day at a job…..don’t feel the slightest inclination to give a big chunk of it to people who choose not to.”. Your own money, those of your WASP family and friends is only possible because your WASP ancestors stole, raped, pillaged and enslaved this country from the Native Indians. The UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand was built on the backs of Black slaves and exploited Native Indians.

The public education, healthcare, roads, infrastructure, ect., which endowed you with an education and presumably earned you good money has nothing to with your own “work ethic” or whatever self-deluded and self-congratulatory, vile Anglo-Saxon capitalist and vicious Calvinist work ethnic you may like to think is behind it. No, everything that you and your family are is the result of the THEFT of this country and its natural resources by your evil WHITE ancestors.

I hope to live to see the day that your descendants are forced to pay mandatory reparation taxes for the centuries of White slavery, genocide, colonialism. imperialism and land theft.

Your statements prove, that despite this country has betrayed the post-war consensus with privatizations, deregulations, unfettered capitalism, rabid individuality and reckless tax cuts…that its still not enough for you and your ilk. The greedy of the WHITE MAN knows not limits, nor does this barely blinking an eye when he starts illegal wars against the poor dark skinned people of this planet. I truly hope to live long enough to see a day of reckoning and retribution on a global scale.

I bet all this goes over your head doesn’t it?. You can’t, as a highly assimilated, uni-lingual, unhyphenated, Canadian born and bred, MANGIACAKE, who oozes Anglo-Saxon and Calvinist values, ever begin to understand why the vast majority of us visible minorities are strongly motivated by Diaspora politics, ethno-cultural group think and identity politics can you?. A MANGAICAKE can only think of domestic Canadian issues which inform his voting preferences. Its ONLY about your wallet and bottom line. Your combination of ignorance and arrogance of the demographic changes around you will be your Achilles heel in the long term, my friend.

With Canada’s explosive non-White and immigrant driven population growth coupled with multiculturalism
and the vast majority of population growth being in urban conglomerate which will need higher taxes for healthcare, education, social services, public transit and infrastructure, your greedy, selfish, narrow minded, short term, frugal, sour, dour tax hating bullshit and the overall White Anglo Saxon Protestant, suburbanite, car owning, mind your own business, sparely populated BULLSHIT will soon be a thing of the past.

The WHITE MAN’s narrative will no even be a factor in 50 years time in this country.

    • JamesHalifax says:

      Thanks, Nurie…..I needed a chuckle.

After reading your post, I can forego attending any upcoming protests to get the pamphlets myself. In fact, your posts are almost a carbon copy of the ridiculous crap one can find on rabble. Judy rebick would be proud of you. Of course, I’m sure your a friend of Jaggi Singh…so maybe you just lifted his notes.

As for the rest of your anti-white post……..it’s just a repeat of the points you’ve already plagiarized from rabble, or the NDP meetings you serve coffee at.

    • The Doctor says:

      Two more mangiacakes.

      Two more shooters!

  19. Nurie Jahangeer says:

I can just see James. He hails from hideously White Atlantic Canada. He probably views Pizza as “exotic ethnic food”.
Talk about the epitome of a naive, sheltered, insulated, spoiled, over privileged, well fed, highly assimilated, uni-lingual, unhyphenated, Canadian born and bred, Canucky Mangiacake. He probably doesn’t even know his own original ethno-cultural origins and simply refers to himself as a “Canadian”, while hissing at Trudeau’s bilingual, immigration and multicultural policies.

There are huge section of Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal which have more foreign born visible minorities who are in key electoral ridings, that the entire population of your backwards WHITE ASSED province.

Are you lilly translucent White with a big Nordic head too James?. How is the pickup truck and John Deere lawnmower?.
How is your “Canadian” cuisines of hot dogs and beer, eh pathetic white bred loser?.

Spend some time in Littly Italy, Greetown, Little India, Chinatown in Toronto. Or perhaps Mississauga, Brampton and Richmond Hill. Little Punjab and most of Vancouver too. Educate yourself about where the voting trends and socio-economic views of the future will matter. No, the ONLY ones that will matter in time.

Your Ward Cleaver/Leave it to Beaver Circa 1950’s White Bred BULLSHIT will soon be totallly irrelevant.

I take comfort i knowing of two refugee families from India, who you have to pay for! HAHAHA!.

    • The Doctor says:

Nurie’s life was devoid of meaning, wandering, wandering in endless night — until the day that he discovered the word MANGIACAKE!

From that point on, Nurie had a mission in life. To spread his contempt for MANGIACAKE to the masses . . . and to make lots of posts on WK’s website containing the word MANGIACAKE . . .

      • By the way Doctor, Nurie is a she, not a he. By the way Nurie, you would do well to cut down on the adjectives afore you get banned by Warren.

        • JamesHalifax says:

          Nurie is a she?

Ahhh…no wonder she’s bitter. She must have read my comments about the uselessness of a womyn’s studies degree. Apparently, she’s now doubting her choice of major.

        • The Doctor says:

          “cut down on the adjectives”

Some of the nouns are way offside as well.

  20. JamesHalifax says:

Sorry Nurie……if you could see me now, I wouldn’t be in Halifax. At one time yes…but not now. Work takes me all over the world…including the part that holds your descendents. Of course, I only hung around those of the right “caste” so I doubt I met anyone related to you…but I digress.

As you seem to be reading your pamphlets again, allow me to correct a few more of your errors. I like pizza..but the stuff they serve in Canada is not real pizza. It’s pizza in shape only. My origins are Irish/Scottish…but I’m neither red-headed nor a drunk…though I do have nordic features and light hair, and normal size (non-Paul Wells) head. (I bet that drives you over the edge eh? :))

I actually have an SUV (gas guzzling and planet killing…just the way I like it) a HUGE house, and lots of goodies you can only dream of. I didn’t get them by complaining about you though….so relax.

As for spending time in little Italy, ChinaTown or little punjab….I don’t have to. I’ve been to the real Italy, the real China, and the real punjab. Nice folks for the most part, though in certain regions, my rugged good looks and Nordic features do stand out. That usually results in numerous street urchins and vendors trying to sell cheap trinkets….but again, I digress.

As for the refugee families I have to pay for from India…..I don’t mind.

In fact, Nurie…..you may thank me now. I’ll continue to work harder than you, pay more taxes than you, and generally not be a burden on anyone else. Hopefully, it means you will make something of yourself so that one day you can support your own family and not rely on me to keep doing it.

Cheers……now get back to the phones.

I dare you to take your lilly white fat ass to Ameri-KKK-a and say that to a Black man, tough guy. Your fat, ugly, big
Nordic lilly white face and head would most likely require extensive reconstructive surgery. Your the the epitome of a WHITE PIECE OF SHIT. You, like most White Conservatives, HATE Blacks and make them your main target. Its because WHITE MEN can’t stand to be second place. I bet you also have a big fat gut and tiny impotent penis which needs Viagra. So most likely a case of penis envy too. I bet in real life you are a demure, mousy, softly spoken, emasculated WHITE PUSSY who acts all big and tough through the anonymity of the Internet, but who would shit his pants in fear before he ever opened up his thin lipped mealy mouth atop that snowflake lilly white, milk fed, pinched stupid WHITE FACE.

Yeah your heros Mark Steyn and Robert Spencer and their followers. A bunch armchair generals in the comfort of middle class, SUV, two car garage suburbia WHITE MALE pussies.

    • JamesHalifax says:

Nurie, as cliche’ as it may seem……one of my good friends / co-workers is black. In fact, many of the folks I deal with every day do not look like me at all. As I have written before, I don’t care what a person looks like, or what they believe, as long as they don’t try and foist their religion down my throat. That also applies to the other lily-white faced folks I know…I don’t care about their religion, or any other for that matter.

As for you, Nurie….may I ask one simple request. So far, in the last several weeks I have been receiving calls from a heavily accented person, presumably from your region of origin. They tend to call during meal hours, or after 10Pm, asking if I am interested in one service or another. The heavily accented voice states, “hello…my name is susan from Belleville” or Cobourg, or Bancroft..etc..etc…

You aren’t fooling anyone, Nurie. If your career at the call centre (thanks to the aforementioned Womyn’s studies degree) means you have to disturb people to earn your meagre wage, please try and pick a decent hour.

Lastly, when I say “Put me on your do not call list” don’t switch to another language to ask your supervisor what I’m talking about. That’s just rude.

LMAO!. I have a PhD in engineering from a very prestigious University. You know in most cultures such Indian, Chinese, African, Latin American, European, ect; we place a premium on higher education. We also tend to have hierarchal societies.
Even European Conservatives as Merkle, Sarkozy, ect; all value the fine arts, higher education, intellectualism, ect.
Europeans, even the Conservatives ones, place a great deal of respect and emphasis on accomplished scientists, athletes,
    academics, artists, ect.

In North America, which was settled by the peasant outcasts of Europe, you find a sarcastic, cynical, rude, crude, low class mentality like yours which does not value national pursuits and goals in the Conservative sense of nationhood, but rather in the short term, make a quick buck, rabid individuality, unfettered greed, and mindless consumerist filth. A European Conservative like Merkle or Sarkozy values is a patrons of upper crust cultures as is frequently seen at prestigious art galleries, museums, national monuments. Their Rhine capitalism is corporatism, unlike individualistic Anglo-Saxon capitalism with its greed and excesses. Their Conservatism is nationalistic, not individualistic like that of Harper and
Bush. European Conservatives have a healthy dose of anti-Americanism, whereas Canadian Conservative kiss the
ass of Ameri-KKK-a and want to be Republi-KLANS.

Canadian and Americans Conservatives want tax cuts, want to bust unions, devalue and trivialize teachers, social workers, public servants, ect; where as European Conservatives, even the tax hating ones, greatly value their civil servants.
The difference James?. Canadian and American Conservatives are by and large dominated by ignorant, common, uneducated, low class, uncouth, unrefined, tactless, blue collar, redneck WHITE TRASH dogshit like YOU. Funny, I have seen outdoor rallies for the recent French Presidential election, Sarkozy’s Conservative Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) several times on the web and TV. All of these Conservative French men and women are well dressed and elegant looking urbane Europeans. Contrast that to Conservative Party of Canada rallies and GOP/Tea Party rallies which are filled with slovenly dressed, fat, ugly, pig faced WHITE TRASH.

In fact, European Conservatives would be accused of being “wine and cheese Liberals” by your ilk. I remember the days when the old Progressive Conservative Party of Canada produced elegant, refined, couth, posh, upper crust, gentleman statesmen such as Robert Stanfield, Joe Clark, Brian Mulroney and Jean Charest. These RED TORIES believe in the welfare state, responsible tax reductions, strong unions, strong labour laws, ect. Most of those attending PC Party rallies drove BMS and were doctors, lawyers, accountants, and yes even public school teachers. Now, the Canadian Conservative and American Republican rank and file drive pickup trucks. They are ignorant, common, uneducated, blue collar REDNECK TRAILER TRASH SHIT like you.

Canadian and American also tend to worship losers such as drug addict movie stars, loud mouth talk radio hosts, WWE, NASCAR, MMA, ect. I am so happy to retain by Indo-Canadian culture, as increasingly just a basic Canadian identity equals the sort of low class, common, blue collar, uneducated, sarcastic, mass culture dog shit like you.

Good for you, Nurie…..given your country of origin, I’m assuming that means you can build a nice shanty with the materials available at the local dump. Now go back to the phones……at 4Pm that shift is over, and you can go sign out your taxi for the evening shift.

Now….back to your screed. If the Phd you refer to is real (I have my doubts) then your post simply proves what many Conservatives have been saying for a while about many folks who value education, with very little thought to common sense or accuracy.

Have you actually read your posts, or do you simply blurt out the first thing that comes to semi-empty noggin?

Well, as I said before, you are at least entertaining, if not predictable.

      Now go clean my house.

    • JamesHalifax says:

By the way Nurie……I’ve dealt with many indo-Canadians, and I don’t think they would like you associating your rantings as an example of their culture. In fact, I’d say that you are the exact opposite of what most Indo-Canadians (or Indians for that matter) are truly like.

  23. JamesHalifax says:

Nurie….either you have run completely out of talking points, or you assume we didn’t see your comments the first three times you posted them. Granted, you may have moved a word around here and there….but you are not saying anything new.

Guess you’re running out of tricks.

You see Nurie, that’s what happens when you cannot think for yourself, and must instead rely on the talking points of others. If you can’t think of anything new to say, may I suggest you go to rabble and find some new material, because clearly you have none of your own.

  24. JamesHalifax says:

Still the same old talking points Nurie……what’s wrong? Run out of people to tell you what to say?

As for white people owing a debt to others’…yeah you may have a point.

If we say sorry…will you say thank you for all that we have provided?

After all Nurie, it was the British in India that stopped the barbaric practice of people like you being thrown on a funeral pyre when your husband died. (though, by the hysterics in your post, I would assume you don’t like men in general, but white men in particular)

We’ll thank India for cheap goods, you can thank us for the rule of Law, democracy, and human rights. Granted, once the British left you started to move backwards again, but hey…that’s been improving lately. (though, the call centre workers are a pain)

We’ll thank africa for, well…..nothing really. They still can’t get their act together, but they can thank us for feeding them when they stop farming and decide to hack each other apart with machete’s every generation or two.

Actually, I don’t really feel like saying sorry at all. I think the folks with their origins in Europe are the reason the world is advanced as it is. True, we borrowed heavily from some other cultures, but the real accomplishments were all our own. You should just be thankful we decided to share it with you. In fact, Nurie…..remember, and realize this. The only reason you can sit and type your repetitive posts….is because a group of White-Anglo Saxon’s had the wherewithal to create the computer, the interenet, the cell phone, satellites, the car…etc…etc…etc…. The list is endless.

Just say thank you “Whitey” and get back to the local dump. I think your shack could use a new addition.

  25. JamesHalifax says:

Nurie, please don’t stop being a hysterical crank. I find you extremely entertaining. In fact, I think you are more entertaining that either philip or Ted now.

One should not create a long list of long posts, filled with hate-filled conspiracy theories, and then simply back out as though you didn’t mean it. Of course you meant it. That’s what makes you posts so funny.

    Nurie, you wrote:
“I DO NOT hate White people at all. I merely wish for a world where all human beings live with more social justice,
compassion, kindness, generosity, security, and material abundance”

You have a funny way of showing it…and of course I don’t believe you mean it.
If you did truly wish for those things, however, please note. They are only found in countries with white faces and white governments, or countries that were defeated by white faces and white governments, but have since been shown the way.

Here’s a hint, Nurie….the countries that are truly free, truly democratic, secure, with rule of law and equality….are all white ones. (or as mentioned above, controlled by whites at one time or another)

the rest of them…….not so much.

    Just say thank you.

    You’re welcome.
