Here it is again! Because I feel like it!

How that conversation should have gone in a civilized world of rational people:

Cop: “Citizen, could you please stop blowing bubbles in my face?”

Protester: “Officer, why am I being asked to stop blowing bubbles? They’re harmless and I have a right to protest the meeting taking place in my city.”

Cop: “You’re correct. They are indeed harmless. But you are blowing bubbles directly into my face. More than the harm they may or may not cause, it’s disrespectful to me. I do’t believe I’ve earned that disrespect. I would never infringe on your right to protest, it being a pillar of any modern democracy after all. But I do ask that you respect my authority as a police officer and my dignity as a human being.”

Protester: “I see your point. I will continue to blow bubbles over here away from your face where my actions won’t be misinterpreted as pointlessly confrontational and disrespectful to a police office.”

One less viral video of police being angry and one less punk song. The song, I will admit, is catchy as hell.

First – let’s agree to agree. The conversation you describe is exactly how it should have gone down.

However, I think this is an excellent example of how the true sh*t-disturbers can spoil things for everyone. Police officers are only human, and I imagine their fuse is fairly short after a day of dealing with: vandals; violent hooligans (whose intentions are unknown – do they pose a physical threat to others, or just the police?); and foul-mouth spoiled WASPs who didn’t have anything better to do with their day than come down to the G20 and cause trouble, for a cause they probably only have a faint clue as to their real “grievances”.

So, when Officer Bubble comes across yet another young, privileged, nose-pierced, attitude-filled protestor (with a camera shoved in his face, too boot), it’s hard for him to fully treat that person on an individual basis after all the other over-the-top crap he has seen during the day. The off-camera comment “You’d think for a billion dollars….etc” doesn’t help.

Peaceful protestors don’t help themselves when they fail to disassociate (move elsewhere) from the trouble-makers, and furthermore fail to call out the trouble-makers and perhaps even help the police arrest the violent ones by pointing them out. This was the case in the G20, and more recently in the Quebec student protests (focus of yet more spoiled WASPs). Not saying this particular young lady is to blame or fits that mould, but it also isn’t really fair to view this video in the lens of hindsight and do a bunch of armchair-quarterbacking as to what he shoulda-coulda-woulda done.

Excellent video and catchy song, though!

if a cop has a short fuse and can’t deal properly with non-criminals after his tough day, HE SHOULD BE TERMINATED AND FIND A JOB HE IS CAPABLE OF DOING. That is why we hire and train people and pay them a respectable salary, not let loose thugs at our whim.

        • smelter rat says:

Bingo. The cop was a douche, end of story.

It always surprises me just how fast a certian segment of our population is willing to give away all of our freedoms and due process at the drop of a hat. Throw in a little manufactured fear and they will practically beg authorities to do so and then loudly defend all the following abuses of power and procedure. I have yet to see any threat to Canada which would warrant a wholesale surrender of liberty and the rule of law to any level of government.

The G8/G20 clusterfuck was never a national emergency, except in the over active imaginations of some Conservatives. Neither did the handful of Black Bloc assholes rise to the level of a credible threat to anything other than a few innocent store front windows. Although Chief Blair tried his best to leverage that handful into a cross between the fiendish Dr. No and rampaging Visigoth hordes, nobody bought it and his climb down followed soon after.

    • GFMD says:

but cops are required to do their jobs whether a bystanders kisses their ass as much as they feel they deserve or not. they are not entitled to abuse their powers over it. The fact that citizens don’t universally grasp this is puzzling.

Great vid, WK–and this, IMO, is one of SFH’s best songs, too.

  4. Derek Pearce says:

Waaaaay too much testoterone……like how his sidekick found the whole thing mildly amusing…….

Liked the tune too….Ive had repeat listens, which for me must be some kinda record……

Happy Canader Day, everyone!…..warts and all, its still the best country on Earth!

  6. Mr. Murdoch esq. says:

    Hey man freaking great vid!

  7. Glen says:

These guys are horrible. Why do you love this band so much?

  8. deb says:

I hope this tragedy opens people eyes…the real question we need to ask…will this happen again ( the authorities major screwup)? Lets hope not!
I think the politicians can do whatever will save lives…and if they help save lives…let them have their photo op…no biggie. Of course the situation was dire and lives of the rescue crew were in danger but there was options to get the much needed equipment …and a major breakdown in communication happened.
Another issue here was who made the call to stop the rescue…and was money the issue…and if so…we need to re-evaluate rescue protocol…the govt should rescue at any cost and then go after the owner and the insurance company…thru fines or payment of some kind.

  9. JamesHalifax says:

Warren, what kind of guitar are you holding there?

    • Warren says:

Fender Mustang. I have 3. I have small hands and it’s short scale.

      • JamesHalifax says:

        Cool…..

Oh….and by the way, you do know what women say about a man with small hands right?

        (they play small guitars?)

      • Iris Mclean says:

That is cool. Didn’t know there was a Mustang bass. Now you need to get a longer strap and get that thing down closer to your knees.
Great song, and well done for sure.

  10. Dude Love says:

Good song, needs to be faster (more buzzsaw guitar) and too much Officer Bubbles. The end is what is wrong with the modern music video, too much extraneous stuff and not enough on the music.

  11. Greg from Calgary says:

Whatever happened to his lawsuite over the youtube vidoes and those who posted the “mean” comments?
